As this thread died nearly 4 years ago I would imagine things have changed since the original discussion. You can use AB Tutor, Net Support, etc on a Terminal Services environment. (We have many customers doing this). Some thin clients will allow you to monitor them directly via THEIR IP via VNC or such like. Hope this helps.

No, you don't need to join it to your domain certainly initially. Can you browse to the moodle installation from one of your PCs? (It may require you to add a DNS record or such like for this).

Hi there, Some questions I'd be asking.. 1) How much space do they need? 2) How fast is their upstream internet connection (to calculate how much they will be able to push in a 'backup' period) 3) How fast is their downstream as highlighted above for the ability to restore large amounts of data for DR. 4) Would they be better with a service which takes tapes off site so large chunks of data can be retrieved via tape delivery? It really depends upon what the existing infrastructure and whether this off site back up is for DR solely or as a means of augmenting an existing solution where the off site stuff is belt and braces. Oh, and be aware of any laws that may be applicable if storing the data outside of the UK (or even internally really.... stick with companies who are known for this). Some of the LA bods will be able to advise better I think on the laws etc.

Can you tell us a bit more about your network, number of stations, variety of applications/roles, what limitations are forcing your hand to take action etc? It may be that the money is better spent on training and a vanilla set up continues to be the way forward.

By the way, it's Ubuntu not unbuntu and there are several schools using linux to the desktop; I guess it just depends upon what your needs are and just how much detail (less interpretation) is defined from the exam board.

No experience with LGfL but under EMBC I was able to log support calls on Saturdays and on call support staff would get back to me. Mind you, I had TCR access for a while that told me more about this kind of scheduled stuff. Sorry to hear of the troubles nonetheless, what was the expected downtime?

Is it the same updates on both failing? Could be the filename getting picked up on the filter maybe? Or dodgy internet connection corrupting the files during download so crc check fails.
