Yeah, in effect it is a remodelled pci-e card. HP are effectively saying here's the server but instead of giving everyone 4x1Gb/s copper ports like we've always done for them to go and buy another card if they want fibre or whatever we'll just put in a slot and let you put whatever you want in it. In some cases, you go and put the 4x1Gb/s card in you'd have had anyway but it's more flexible sure.

Yes, I have a customer using Backup Assist though it is only backing up file services (the heavy lifting is done in Veeam). It's very simple and intuitive but doesn't have the same feel as a fully featured Backup Exec though that isn't a bad thing for what we're using it for. Seems to work fine, and makes me want to rant less than Backup Exec.

I don't have a mass of experience on the Exchange side (more on the Linux side!) but there are plenty of folks on here who will know the best way to do this. In terms of migrating the mail from the old system you could probably quite easily use imapsync to log into the old server and port the mail across to the new one. From the exchange server download putty and try and telnet to mail.btopenworld.com on port 25 and see if you get a response. (if you don't, that's your problem!)

Can the new mail server talk to the outside world on port 25? (to send the mail) Or have you got it configured to relay via a smarthost or something that it can talk to on port 25?

Either license it as your mandatory profile user and close it back up or find out where it's storing the license registration and distribute this to all users at logon. The former is likely a cleaner solution but may mean more work in the short term setting it up.

Yup, been running Linux for ~15 years now on my main workstations/laptops. Wife has a windows PC for those times as when it's truly needed, and I have a virtual Windows 7 instance for supporting customer systems etc.

Veeam rocks, it's easily my favourite life line in the last couple of years. Depending upon how many CPU sockets you have in your environment (if it's 6 or less) you might be better with Veeam Essentials so you get Backup & Replication and also Veeam One (Monitoring). If you have Exchange in your environment you may want to look at Enterprise over Standard as enterprise includes some more bells and whistles around 1 click file restores, restoring exchange items directly back into mailboxes etc. Version 7 is coming out soon and there's talk of it helping bring more functionality to the HyperV editions which is long overdue now. In short, if you can afford it I'd go Enterprise, be that Enterprise through Essentials, or Enterprise on B&R. EDIT: There is also a cloud edition that supports copying of backups up to the cloud, but this is licensed in a slightly different way so unless you're looking at cloud backup I wouldn't look at this yet.

Makes sense to me, I'd still go with 32GB (or 24GB at a push) of RAM per host for n+1 should something fail that gives you double what you're currently using so plenty of space to grow into without more costs. You'll pick up a pair of small boxes to do this no problem, if you've got SATA already you might get away with NL SAS if performance isn't an issue at the moment but that's up to you, I'd go SAS for the performance gain but it might be OTT for your needs.

Pretty much any Dell, HP, IBM box will do what you want to be honest. If you are looking at Rack Mount you're looking at something like a HP DL360 Gen8p (avoid the E, lower warranty cover), or the Dell R610/710. If you're after pedastal the HP ML350 is quite good. You'll then need to decide how many disks you want, the 300/450GB SAS disks are at a reasonable price point if you go for quantity of them (for I/O & capacity you probably want at least 4 of those in each box) or you could go for the bigger disks and have less of them but that'll deliver less iop capability. You've not got a huge requirement at the moment, are you likely to grow and need more oomph in the life of these boxes? That will influence your decision on whether you go with 1 or 2 CPUs in the host boxes, you probably only need one right now, but getting hold of a second later will be more expensive. I'd double the RAM to 32GB, it's cheap and cheaper to get now than it will be when you decide in 2-3 years when you want more. What boxes are these replacing, that may help with the sliding scale on how much perf vs how much cost?

In that case I'd definitely want to take advantage of a day of a decent engineer to pick up on the best practices.

Having just set one up myself it's not difficult but I'm sure mine isn't set up as well as their team would set it up so I take that as it is. If you want it done properly or if you have a network with different requirements (VLANs, mixed filtering levels, BYOD etc) I'd definitely pay the cash and get it done properly and use it as a great example to ask lots of questions and really get comfy with the tech. For me it's a lab set up so it's not big deal to flatten it and do it again if I've done something stupid. Lots and lots of functionality deep in those menus too, I'll be talking to the guys there again soon to explore further.

Hello, Whilst the Security Server would be the best solution, James' suggestion is viable as long as the Meego OS can use a VPN too. I personally do this on a daily basis with a Windows 7 VirtualBox VM which uses the Cisco VPN Client (amongst other clients for other systems) to connect into other systems. This means that my main 'workstation' isn't on the VPN and as such I can be sure of security etc because it's just a disposable VM.

The SSL certificate is only valid for .org not .org.uk. So you're getting the warning on the .org.uk link because they've not added the .org.uk name to the certificate. And as it's a new certificate in the last week it's probably an oversight.
