I've filled it, but I have to say it is useless. My other half is a Postgraduate, still at Uni (doing her PhD) but getting paid. What is she on the census, a student, heck she is not even classed as "working". Lets times this by say the small group she works in, and all of a sudden we have 15 people all students, not earning (cos the government claim students don't work or get paid), they don't travel to "work", yet all 15 of them within the next few years will be "doctors" and be helping to shape the future of the country you would hope, afterall the government does talk about how reserach and development is a big future industry. This is only one research group in one office in one University, there are literally thousands more across the country. And I know the questiosn can be interpreted different, but if we had said she was working, then loads of other questiosn are get stupid, how many hours do you work? Hmm well, she isnt contracted to any hours, so as many as she wants, not an option available.

It also happens on some shockwave "SCORM" content for us.

I've had the same problems, I reported them a while ago but got no reply here. I don't know the cause though, but it affects IE and Firefox and started happening when the users passwords had needed changing (150 day limit on them). I have tried a few fixes for it, including grace logons etc, but not had to much success. We have had Moodle (on ubuntu), Windows 7 and Server 2003/ 2008 and 2008 R2 for about a year and never encountered these issues before. Im looking along two lines of investigation, some kind of cached passwords or remembered passwords that aren't being overwritten (maybe in my Ubuntu webserver) and Office 2010, as this seems to have made the problem even worse. Though with that said, I have had reports that staff using the same accounts (in Moodle) from home, do not have these issues, this would imply in is an issue to do with our network (e.g password), but I cannot confirm this as most staff have Office 2003 on their laptops. Another reason i feel it may be more network based (e.g password or maybe a policy) is on accounts with none expiring passwords, this never seems to happen no matter what version of Office we are using nor what browser. But again these accounts tend to also be affected by different group policies so these cannot be ruled out. So many variables and so little time!

Cant you just go into the service menu and reset the life counter? Thats what you do with the drum units.

I have never heard of E-School, don't know if that helps much. Though E-Learning managers exist, so maybe its the same thing, the school I worked out with an E-Learning Manager, he was above the Network Manager. i thought this was odd personally.

Isn't there a version of the ISO available from Microsoft with SP1 in, im sure I spotted it on the VLS yesterday when I was looking for something else entirely. Or maybe it is just a link to the ISO for windows 7 and a seperate link next to it for SP1

We are going with Global AXS, they are based near us and we are within Greater Manchester to, so close to a lot of the backbone throughout the UK. Virgin media were doing an offer though recently I heard that was 12k for 100mg on 100mg near enough anywhere (though im sure some places wont count)

We ae gonna be paying £8,500 for 100mb on 100mb with a £2,500 installation cost.

Although I'm waiting for you to reply to what Marci has advised you, I can confirm this does work fully on a CC3 network (i've seen it in a previous job), just so you don't ever think you are going down an unending tunnel.

I've gone through quite a few settings yesterday in an attempt to fix this issue, I'm hoping it may be due to a setting within LDAPCapture and password expiry rules. I'll report back whether this solves my issue or not (the original setting were incorrect in my opinion).

Funny you should mention it, a member of staff has just visited and given me more information. Apparently the problem has only starting occuring since they were forced to change their network password (due to password policy), all the links were fine until this was changed. Is it possibly some kind of cache issue?

You can setup Moodle to use the AD Groups to auto assign some roles, i.e STAFF to Non-Editing Teacher or something. I had it setup at one point but we removed it as there is only actually a need to assign permissions once (we found) and by the time I had it working correctly everyone was enrolled and in the correct groups except my test accounts. As I've just wrote that I've just checked and everything has changed in Moodle 2.0 now apparently, maybe it something that you should avoid setting up if you plan to upgrade soon.

What are you running Moodle on, an Linux server or Windows? Also remember you needs LDAP capture running, not just LDAP server (they are slightly different).

I've encountered a strange problem. On some of the Moodle resources even after the user has already logged in when they click to download a resource or even access some SCORM material. The login box appears a second time asking to login, but if you just click cancel on the login box, you can still access the material, so the login box isnt actually do anything and it doesn't always appear. Has anyone else seen this problem or know of a solution? If it helps our Moodle box is all SSL.

Sky don't actually care if you dont use the router provided as logn as you dont ask them for help with your broadband, always plug in yout sky router when contacting them.] I break the T and Cs on my broadband because I don't use the right router and the engineer never plugged my box into a phoneline and tey have never complained and when they did, I amde them check their notes, they did, they said it was their fault but werent going to send anyone to fix it. I'll use this fact escape a contratc one day maybe! I've used the router provided on and off, tbh the ones they provide are of poor quality and I got 2 dead on arrival, they also lack so many features. I use a Linksys router at the moment.

Im confused by the "budget", aren't you covered by Insurance and hence a New for Old scheme? Also Smoothwall doesnt need anything special to run, glorified desktops work fine. You coudl save money there to put towards your other servers.

Oxbox, ahh yes we have AS level and A Level French versions installed. Only one version of the SCORM worked (I think it was 2004) but the actually SCORM is so messy its near unusable anyway! The menus are in random orders, where activity 1 might be after activity 6 etc etc, its a nightmare! I tried changing the order of the menu using some SCORM editing utility, maybe I did it wrong I don't know but even when I corrected the menu order saved it and then re-uploaded it and it went back to the original mess!

Have you tried a different cable though? People damage cables all the time and it would mean the only thing that is broke is the SMARTboard.

There is currently the Home Access plus+ website plugin i guess is the best terminology that someone has created, I'm intending to look into making this work using SSO much like the windows web share client does as currently a user would need to reenter their username and password. The concept of makign it work sounds plausible so I'm hoping when I start looking it will be quite possible. Otherwise I would wait for a while and the plugin may well be updated.

We are a school of about 1200 pupils with the associated staff numbers etc. Moved to Moodle from Fronter. Our server is I believe (without actually checking the tech specs right now) a Quad Core (2.4ghz) with 4gb RAM, and only a 500gb HDD. Only 1U high due to space issues at the time. Having used Moodle over the past 8 months, the biggest regret I have is the HDD size because some of the SCORM resources teachers give me are 4gb each. So it can soon fill up. As for our bandwith we currently have a 10mb on 100mb bearer (fibre) line from the council, and I don't think this has really slowed us down, although we are getting a 100mb line very soon due to leaving the council IT services. If you run it in house then there are several things I would warn you about, firstly be patient in the first week or so of setting it up, if your setting it up from Today for example, tell staff they can see if after half term, then start using it after Easter. We had a trial group of about 12 users for 2 months before allowing all staff to use it, also buy a book about Moodle, it has been a saving grace for me many times. I'm at a school in Manchester but i'm sure there are schools in the Wirral that already use Moodle, you can probably visit them and speak to both the staff and the Techies about it.

We use a lot of the Acer Veriton L400, mainly because they come with real processors and with run Windows 7 Enterprise here. We do have Asus efforts that are Aton based (bought by a teacher) and to be honest we found them nothing short of completely useless. There are also Lenovo ultra small form factors, and they probably have a 3 year warranty (most Lenovo stuff does). As for replacing small parts believe it or not but some even have a low profile PCI slot in them, so you could even put a new graphics/ sound or network card in one should it break! I have never done it but it is possible. We've actually been really impressed with our Acer's so far (had some about a year) and not one has gone wrong *touches wood*

Most big suppliers will/ should be able to atleast give you a timescale. You spoke to Equanet, Insight and Misco etc?

Are those the blue ones on the slim desktop boxes? If so we use to pull the switches out and round the back as an emergency turn on as the machines WOLed in the mornings and shut down int he evening as per a schedule.

Primary Schools around here pay about £5000 a year for 10meg line with filtering and anti-virus, about £3800 for just the line.
