The company doesn't exist, so depending on how much your school uses the software you can decide to right it off. RM bought up the company that make this and the only workgn version we could get hold of (about 22 months ago) was the VLE version and it was hard work, took multiple phone calls. Maybe if you have a compatible VLE, you can either get RM to sell you that version (this isn't easy) or get them to send you a letter (or even a fax...) to basically say this software is now regarded as being abandonware or freeware (also seems unlikely). If someone can get RM to put in writing that we can now use this software for free we can then try and get ISOs together. The problem is both solutions are a nightmare, buying from RM is difficult, getting RM to write the software off might be even worse!

We have two Epson you can stream to from anything on the same network via its network port, you have to install some crummy software though.

I guess it depends how you setup your restrictions. We set up ours, so it is blocked unless there is an exception. So our default security level for students is disallowed. Then we have exceptions for everywhere, please bear in mind you need to specify subfolders using this method for example we have both below unblocked: %PROGRAMFILES%\*\* %PROGRAMFILES%\*\*\*

Block *.exe from being run on removable devices. To be honest we block *.exe from pretty much anywhere.

We use Papercut, we printer 40,000 pages in the last month. This doesn't include photocopying but does include staff printing jobs to photocopiers (which has lowered photocopying over the last year or so). Using Papercut has allowed us to see where printing is being done excessively and tackle it, such as students now print way way less then before. We also use it to make people think where they print things, for example printing to a large MFD is "free" on Papercut, printing to local printers is most expensive and to networked shared printers is in between. This has reduced printing on smaller printers and increased it on the MFDs which should be saving money.

Hi LukeC I would personally (and we do)l make all the machines sync with one server (usually a DC), that gets its time from an external source. Then on all the VMs disable the syncing of time in the integrated services. When I had time issues, I tracked down where each server was getting its time from one by one and found the problem in the chain, that is probably your best option.

Its quite simple really, once you have your head round it. Firstly if you have any virtual servers (especially controllers), make sure the time sync between the host and the virtual machine is off. Then set your main DC to sync with a known good source, there are many available. Next force a sync on all your DCs one by one, then on each server (check the time source on each server, this should always be a DC). The usually problem is a virtual machine (DC) getting the info from a physical host (that gets its time from the virtual DC) and so time goes wrong.

For your reflection issues, have a look at the CPU usage. We have been trialling Reflection but have found it is killing the CPUs in some of our computers. I'm talking about ultra small form factor Acer Veritons, they have E8400 in. Basically the CPU can't handle the video decoding, and becomes jerky as hell, however sound is perfect. On my desktop (Quad Core 2 Duo with a GPU) the problem doesn't exist.

Does she not miss the point, that a school isn't using an uncontended line to visit just one website at once. Lots of people are visiting lots of websites, so you aren't trying to get an uncontended line to each website in the world, but get the best connection possible.

I would have thought so, as basically you make it run only one process. We use ours for logging thin clients in OUR RDS server, but it should work for anything. It just means users get no option of what to use on the thin client, only what you tell to run. I forgot to add its free, although paid alternatives are available.

I should have probably added that look at some software called Thinkiosk, it has group policy extensions and replaces the explorer shell on windows. We use it to "thin client" our old machines.

You could or you could just the old fashioned method. Such as intermittent bells etc which I know some schools use and means ALL staff know, not just the teachers who have a laptop on in front of them. Just a thought.

Go into the window logs and then folder redirection logs and check what more information it actually gives.

You would have to turn the VM off to change it, not to just inspect it. I think your VM may have a snapshots? probably many. My VMs with no snapshots you have to click inspect once, and ti says the maximum size. I just snap-shotted a test box and I get the same as you on the first window but on the second window it showed the size and maximum size, keep clicking and see if you get to a size in the end.

I like Lenovo AIO, they are rock solid and you can even fix a few things yourself.

If your using HyperV Manager, then do settings, then you can see the HDD. Click "Inspect" and then it should say size and maximum size in there. Edit: To compact the disk, your server has to be offline by the way.

If you go into Virtual Machine Manager (i'm using 2012 but im sure others show this), then go onto the properties of the virtual machine then click on the HDD, it will say Dynamic or Fixed and the Maximum Size if it is Dynamic. There is probably also an option to compact the disk.

So the VHD file is 1.5TB but the used space on the VHD is only showing as 750GB? You can make windows compact the VHD again, but isn't your VHD set to only grow to a set size anyway?
