When you ping the dns name, does it reply with the internal IP?

Are they connecting via the IP or via a DNS name, if a DNS name they are going in and out are them?

The licenses costs are set. If you are within a maintenance agreement you pay about £90-100 off memory, if you don't have an agreement you pay about £125. With regards to the refurbed handsets, you can use whatever you want, we pay about £25 for ours. I don't see how they can possibly refuse to let you use other handsets bought, what if a handset were to break and you repalced it, they would never know! I guess there might be an agreement that everything is purchsed through them. Also have you double checked you need extra licenses? I was always told we did, when i bought new ones, added them, it turns out there were 4 spare already!

Slow cooking curries is one of the best things to do, use cheaper meat then. It is to each individual but if individuals move desks 5 times a day, you can't possible do every person for every area. What you need to do is assess the area and make it as best as possible for the situation, so educating users how to move the screen to the right height, move the chairs to the correct height while also giving them equipment that can be moved to the right height. This shows that consideration has been made for staff who move around even though they may not even sit still for 2 hours! I have seen teachers using old plastic chairs that can't even be height adjusted, these are the issues that need addressing for staff that move. With staff who are permanently in the same place then the desk should be set up for that user in that desk, including foot rests and everything if appropiate.

If your teachers have a desktop that is in 1 location and doesn't more then assess it, as it is esseientially a workstation. If they are using a laptop, firstly it will probably fail DSE without all sorts of adjsutments but they are also moveable and tey won't ever put them in the same place everytime and if they moved to another room with the laptop it would be different again. Near impossible to assess. I would do all desktops that staff could use, basically monitor stands that move, a wrist rest, and a chair that moves covers most things.

@pete I'm running a R290 and I had the stock cooler until recently. It is really noisy but a freally good card, I have replaced the stock cooler on mine with an aftermarket. When i bought it there was no none stock cooler versions and my old GPU has blown up so I needed a new one! I was reading somewhere, now lost it sorry, that you could/ should configure your unfii points to send a disconenct packet when the signal reaches a certain strength, to stop them all hogging the same point. if the client is told to disconnect but that point is the most powerful , then it takes them back. It 8:18am though and I can't remember where I was reading it or what it was called, it was when I was researching zero hand off.

For the record you can get Unifi points that work with standard PoE (The Pro and the AC points I believe) or using the Unifi ToughSwitches (support all unifi points) The Unifi points also support support Radius absolutely fine.

Can we have it put on record that @abillybob has linked the incorrect school, Quinton House school has not gone under, still does have events happening. Sounds like something is running and not working when you turn it on. For the record, Acer Extensa 5630 will work fine with Windows 7, so your not wasting your time, and if they are SSD to then they are quite acceptable performance wise. However, when I last reinstalled one it was from a disk as it wasn't a school one, also the drivers from Acer are needed, most are Vista I think but will work. WDS etc won't give it the right drivers.

You cna reset the lamp life on the projectors normally, we usually replace them on death or poor image. We have NECs that do the same, they say the bulb is 2000 hours old and won't turn on, you have to doa little trick to reset them and then they are fine again.

We have loads of Hitachi projectors, they are absolutely fine.

I always thought that but our iMacs and server etc were originally a purchased solution, and despite years of trying to find a fix, noone has told it to me. The only solution I know of is to reboot the iMac. As I said, might be different solutions to the problem on later versions of iOS. I don't know how it works but software solutions for iMac integration (Centrify for example) might not have the same problem, but then it depends on what you are using your iMacs for and how much you have already spent.

We've had iMacs at where I would for about 8 years and even with help from an Apple Supplier who does full installations etc, there seems to be no fix for this. Though we are on Snow Leopard.

We have decommissioned our number of clients from approc 150 to 50 or so. Keeping them alive for ones scattered in classrooms where we can't afford to change and to allow staff remote access. In fairness the thin cliets/ VDI were being used for what they weren't designed to be originally, i.e. photoshop etc. They were also put in place to discourage people stealing from the school because essentially they were useless if stolen. They have done a decent shift though, a lot of them are 7-10 years old, and they are useless when you need 1-5 computers for research in a classroom. Whether there is a business case for them, I don't know, I don't think you save real costs over time, by the time you account for initial costs, ongoing licensing (Microsoft and Citrix), so then the issue becomes are they easier or harder to look after then fat clients. I think they are probably just as much effort if not more. People selling VDIs always say the saving is in the time, but in reality it takes no time at all to reimage classrooms now, to adminstrate updates etc.

I wrote a big reply, but realise it wasn't worth it when the thread had degenerated to "Internet facts" and what press who are sent freebies think. I settle the point by saying the standard of technology press nowadays has people like Rory Cellan-Jones in it, who has no idea about technology.

Would you like me to list every issue I have had with nVidia cards too? Because frankly it is like fanboy central in here for nVidia. I know people who have moved nVidia to AMD and then people who have moved AMD to nVidia. As for comments about the components feeling less well refined, it is a chip that is engineered to nm, less then probably any of us really understand. We put them all together and put the drivers in and off we go, it isn't driving a card that has slightly worse suspension etc. AMD chips run hotter, use more power but at virtually all price points are the superior card bang for buck. If you have your PC in a place where noise and heat aren't an issue, then AMD are better. If your PC is in a room shared with other people (most notably your other half) then get nVidia as you'll get less complaints! Both make decent cards (with the odd duffer), you won't go wrong with either, as long as they are newish, you don't overlock them, you don't use Beta drivers and you don't use either Crossfire or SLI, both are not worth the effort and won't work properly for everything you try to do with it.

AMDs drivers are perfectly fine, people moan and whinge and say they aren't any good but I always have AMD/ ATI cards and never have driver issues. Haven't in 10-15 years. I originally bought an ATI when an nVidia I had blew up, quite literally with sparks and everything! But that doesn't mean I think every nVidia card will explode. Personally I have an R9 290, yes it runs hot and its huge, but it was best abng for buck when I bought it, drivers aren't a problem. The cards that tend to have problems are the double chipped ones, i.e crossfire on one card. Drivers cause stuttering and all sorts. But nVidia SLI had similar problems as well originally.

Plug it in, DHCP gives it an IP address normall then you connetc to that. Just look in DHCP for the DNS name ont he label. That's how I usually connect to the iLo anyhow.

The clamps rotate on the older models and to be honest the stand is perfectly adequate for an average cyclist, I have one and it is very stable.

Except when you copy retain the permissions using robocopy or xcopy instead of re-adding them.
