I personally don't get the appeal of three, Virgin mobile do unlimited everything for £20 a month for me. Calls to 0800 0808 0845 and 0870. And it is a 30 day rolling contract., on EE so network coverage is decent. On Three to get that it is £30 but 4g is included, but it is £10 a month extra, so 4g isn't really included, your paying for it. Currently coverage is worse (though with 02 I'm sure it will improve) and you get less numbers for free. I understand the travel abroad perk, i'm getting a pay as you go sim with the bolt on for just that one thing because it is nice to use data when you wanna find something but for the extra monthly cost, still isn't value for money. I remember when 3 use to be miles cheaper then everyone else, disrupting the market, now they are much the muchness. Less companies means the phone operators will become even more just "meh". Most big companies are pretty much the same across all walks of life, banks, energy providers etc but still 1 less company is surely worse.

If you have a device such as smoothwall, then do something such as soft block it. That is what I use to do when I worked where we had a 6th Form, it meant students could choose to bypass the filter and view the website, but they had to actively choose to bypass the filter and it was recorded that they had chosen to do it. Doing the above meant there was no excuse to accidentally going to a website that would be blocked for most other year groups, as they would have been warned first. It was the best compromise we came up with.

I must say ours are pretty quiet, ofcourse everyone can spec themselves, so different ones produce more heat and others have duster rooms etc

Shall I muddy the waters further? If you have 1 physical host using the host physical storage, with 3 or 4 virtual computers for example then the host can be on or off the network. As you can login locally to the host and start each VM manually, then you can admin them through a network account too. The issue stems around where virtual machines are stored, if they are on storage that requires network access then you need a physical or standalone DC.

To explain as best as possible: The real issue is to do with central storage and having your virtual hosts as a cluster. If you have a HyperV cluster, then HyperV had to be on the domain (in 2008R2 atleast) and you had to be able to login to boot the Cluster Service online. Without the cluster serivce online you can't boot a virtual DC, and you can't get the cluster service onlien because you can't login. It forms a catch 22 situation. If you have HyperV hosts that are entirely independent then you can have just vrirtual DCs, it is just against best practice or at least use to be. But it would work fine.

It depends entirely on what licenses you have. Standard server licenses mean you can run upto 2 virtual Windows Servers, Datacenter is unlimited. So if you have two HyperV hosts, then get 2 datacenter licenses and you can run unlimited VMs

I believe the models have been changed then as the techsheet from the past clearly states SFP and the speeds as 100/1000. The sheet I have is from June 2013. The new data sheet is December 2014, so must be an update.

I have both 2920 and 2530 (I'm sure). Neither of them have SFP+, the 2920 have 2 slots on the back I believe that will allow you to add expansion cards. I still have a spec sheet for a 2530 series and allt eh supported SFPs are not SFP+ unless things have changed in the last 18 months.

On a sidenote restart it twice usually as it doesn't always re-do the link otherwise. We have a schedules task to restart ours nightly!

You cna buy Unifif Tough Switches that do support the standard, and Pro points. Or get the AC points and they are fully compatiible I believe.

Your card is probably overheating, the R290 run excessively hot and if there is no air around them or any airflow then they will overheat. I have a R290, awesome card but bloody loud fans (mine i a stock) and it runs really hot, the heat coming off it is the hottest i've ever felt from a PC.

They were here when I arrived. They are "Multipoint Server" but they are just glorified desktops using the x300 (i think) cards to connect via ethernet cables to ncomputing clients, we have the LG screens with built in clients. The clients and the servers dreeze a lot, or randomly a mouse stops working. Staff hate them, students hate them!

Just so you are aware we have 70 multipoint clients over 9 desktops, well we did have we now have 50 over 6 desktops. They are rubbish, noone likes them and they cause us all sorts fo problems. We are going to drop to 30 hopefully over the summer.

We use Citrix, but I have used RAS to in the past, Citrix is better. Both are perfectly adequate though. Depending on how you setup your servers, personal VDIs or a Pool of VDIs would be important though for admin users. Things like SIMS updates, or FMS updates would need to hit all VDIs if it was a pool.

We have had thin clients here for over 9 years, so long thin clients need replacing. Initially cost of the servers for backend and the thin clients is similar to fat client prices. Yearly licensing costs for the thin client software isn't cheap, then the additional MS licensing for VDA access. Come into year 7-8 and you need to upgrade backend servers and look at upgrading older thin clients as well, another cost. Honestly over a 10-15 year period, I would say the costs are probably identical. The advantage of a thin client setup is meant to be all in support time, but in schools with every changing demands, this becomes negligble. The real advantage is it can be sued to provide good external access as well.

I wouldn't move to thin clients to save money, it never quite stacks up that way.

As per my previous psot but later then expected! We are going to start going live with our students on the guest wifi using smoothwall for radius, so I will update you with any complaints, tweaks etc.

If you buy from a factory then they usually know people that will fit it for you too.

You need specialist equipment to cut quartz. Why not go to a place that you can buy a kitchen from in boxes (my brother works at one) and get the units cheap. Then they tell you everything you need but don't have the same expense because it is basically from factory to you, a lot come prebuilt too, so you slide the boxes into place (well after you have messed about getting your wall flat measuring everythign 50 times, finding the floor isn't level and all the pipework needs adjusting etc, the list goes on). Then get a kitchen fitter to cut your tops for you. My new kitchen cost me about £1100, including worktops, I have oak butchers block style or whatever it is. Then fitted it myself - the worktops which I paid £220 for someone to do properly for me. Without appliances ofcourse! Wasn't a big kitchen, but was 1 full height cupboard, 3 wall cupboards and about 6 low down cupboards/ sets of drawers.

Ive just looked at your VLAN image that looks perfectly correct. I have got hold of some Unifi points and will be seeting up a BYOD network for students soon in a couple of test locations, so once i have given it a trial I'll let you know if I have similar issues. Does the number of devices connected have any affect?
