  1. Copy all the current icons and shortcuts into a folder in Netlogon and point the gpo for the group to it. You can do the same for the Start menu.
  2. I see your point in wanting a pay rise for the job you do, but to be honest, once Exchange is in place within a school there is no real difference to maintaining other servers, as far as time is concerned, within a school environment anyway. You don't mention your pay scale, but I'd suggest you compromise part way, because there is no way you will get 30K just for looking after an Exchange box in a school. The best way forward would be to carry out a time/job evaluation for your post and approach the management again.
  3. Same here
  4. Lanview3 is free and does what you mentioned above. A search on this forum will give you loads of info
  5. I've been playing with php for a couple of years without knowing any coding. Now teaching myself how to do it properly so may be of help proofing and testing. I know nothing of *nix though - I only use windows with apache, php, MySql and phpMyAdmin.
  6. We use another server running IIS for any asp applications.
  7. That was handy The company I ordered from lost the order then said they can't invoice us and want payment up front. Thanks Galway - I didn't realise CCL did cameras.
  8. I found this the other night looking for something else. May be worth a try, seemed to work ok on my home comp. Burn for free
  9. Would that be the RhineD' school or one of the small ones dotted about? Never mind - just spotted the link
  10. But Geoff - we all thought that you were the search engine He was just cutting out the middle man
  11. apeo found this - TeacherTube I'm considering banning YouTube and just giving access to this one
  12. The school, within the guidelines published by the government of the day has the right to punish students who contravene any rules the school imposes. In our case, one rule is that no individual is to use any form of communication, including the internet, to slander or abuse any other individual connected to the school, including the school itself. This isn't intended to be 'Big Brother' but is a tool to educate and reduce incidents of bullying. It makes no difference, where the abuse is input or what equipment they use. The offence is against the school or individual within it. In the past we have, expelled students from school for a period for breaking the school rules. Before you ask - yes - parents are consulted and informed throughout the process. I agree that a student (or member of staff for that matter) using the internet to make abusive or otherwise offensive comments to any other individual outside our own organisation, cannot be punished by the school. However, there is nothing to stop the school educating the individual on the proper use of the Internet and informing the parents what is happening. We are in the education business afterall!
  13. That's right. Glad you agree So can you elaborate on this remark? Ta!
  14. @ sqdge - useful contacts can be found here including Yahoo and MySpace. @ geoff What crap is that? Regardless of where or what equipment is used, abuse of another individual or organisation is unacceptable in our society. You can preach all you like about an individuals rights and freedom to use the internet, but be prepared to preach from the other side, that is the rights of people to live free of abuse and a right to privacy.
  15. You are free to record anything from your own communication devices without any permissions at all. However, you cannot play back, or allowed to be played back, that recording to a third party without the consent of any party on that recording.
  16. Back to the OP. You can create an account with bebo and complain about an entry on a page. As long as you explain the circumstances. We have done this in the past with bebo, myspace and youtube. We hold the view that if the entry brings the schools name into disrepute, offends a member of staff or student then the site is contacted to have it removed. If known, the student is punished and the parents shown the material and corrective measures discussed. It is clearly stated in our AUP 'Do not bring the School, or members of the school community into disrespect by publishing material on the Internet which is then available for public viewing.' This makes it a cut and shut case in most incidents, ie no Human rights issues, no get out of jail free card and not a leg to stand on. This is backed up by both parents and the LEA. Most sites like bebo are very helpful and will do as requested if given sufficient reason. Just word your complaint carefully and in a professional manner.
  17. Our Science technicians have transferred their old training videos to DVD and saved them in a *.vob format. Apparently some of the teaching staff only want to use clips and do not want to scroll through the whole dvd to find them. Has anyone any recommendations on what software (free and non *nix) the science techs can use to edit the dvds? They would prefer to edit using Windows Movie maker as they are familiar with this but are open to suggestions.
  18. Yep - all good so far
  19. I couldn't go to the VIP day due to work commitments but I can back up the comments made about quality of kit and after sales service.
  20. Sysadmins - the only group that can close the world for a day or longer - Muahahahaha
  21. We had a similar problem so what we have done is implemented moodle to give the teaching staff and smt the chance to look and play with it. This gives them the opportunity to discover what a VLE is for and how it can be used before we pay out thousands on any other system. Keep it simple to start with and don't let them get carried away with a system that promises to interact with everything else.
  22. Stone Computers for our PCs and anyone for laptops depending on spec and price. I agree with cookie_monster - Stone have a very good aftersales service.
  23. Only 2 years old - here's a beaker and milk
  24. I WANT MY PRESENT NOW!!!!!! Whaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
