I use Capita for SIMS!!!. Imagine the senario .. Sorry we cannot send a fire engine out to you due to a patch that was applied and now needs to be re released.

it takes any locations required from the sims.ini which lives inside the windows directory. If the user account that is used to install SIMS doesn't have access to this folder it will go to the defaults set in the installer which will most likely be program files\sims\sims .net

have you opened the firewalls on the clients and the server

SOrry if this has alrady been answered but looking through all the documentation supplied by Capita I cannot find any guidance or suggestions regarding hardware requirements for SOLUS3 either as an LA hosting or for an individual school??

have you looked at the recovery options for the printer spooler? Have you tried a batch file to stop and then restart the service?

If you simply need a basic ping devices product them Free ping-based network monitoring tool is rather good. Basic and simple one configured it will ping devices with a traffic light type display. ie red is down green is up and orange is long ping time. It can also be configured to email if a device cannot be contacted
