  1. +1 for Milestone Xprotect from us here - nice bit of software indeed We've got a mix of Axis and Sony cameras here but I'd have to go with the Sony cameras as far as picture qulity go (comparing 720p on both). Axis do have some intresting designs though including a very nice internal fish eye style camera.
  2. MDT for OS deployment then App-V for pretty much every application (still do Flash/Reader through GPO).
  3. Have you got any particular need to setup user profiles in this manner? For pretty much everything you can set it up through GPOs these days (printers/wallpapers/custom office settings etc).
  4. Just to put some things straight about DA in 2012 (we have it setup here)- -You only need a single external IP and it can be v4 -You can use NAT -Windows 7 clients are backwards compatible with Server 2012 after deploying a internal CA -You only need 443 open if using IP-HTTPS (which is easy!) -DA is the MOST AMAZING bit of tech out there, seamless remote connection without the need for a software client or even the need to push a button to make it work
  5. That's where you have some fun with your LEA and grass them to JANET
  6. If you are a school you can get a free SSL Cert from JANET through your LEA/Regional Broadband
  7. Tried it and found it a little too 'big' for our needs - ended up putting together a SharePoint site with various workflows built in. If I were in a larger organisation I sure would use it though, loads of tools and the potential for intergration with other System Centre products is amazing.
  8. Have managed to get this to work in the past although more often than not I've found it causes poor audio qulity and I just end up buying the right cables.
  9. Forefront TMG 2010 is going end of life but we are ok until 2015 - Important Changes to Forefront Product Roadmaps - Microsoft Server and Cloud Platform Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs We used to use TMG 2010 for VPN but that's now done by RAS in Server 2012 (to get Direct Access as well) now its just our web filter as our LEA deals with firewall.....however....next summer we are going to change from LEA broadband to our own choice of supplier so it is likely that we will ditch TMG for something else.
  10. In all honesty there isn't much to it - if you do a manual install its a matter of copy over the files setup a MySQL database (only need to create a user with permission to it which is pretty simple through something like PHPmyadmin) and then go to the setup page - the rest is automated. As far as the interesting bits go look up things like conditional tags and plugins like GD Star Ratings - just have a trawl through the plugin directory as well so when someone comes to you and asks 'hey Id like to do this with my site' you have an idea of where to go. For layouts take a look at this - Artisteer - web design software and joomla template maker its a rapid design program that to me is worth its weight in gold!
  11. Something like Logmein123?
  12. Easy setup in IIS - Configuring FTP User Isolation in IIS 7 : The Official Microsoft IIS Site
  13. Download the Skydrive application - works even better than Live Mesh ever did
  14. I've got one in my desktop PC (500GB 4GB flash) works a treat however only as far as OS boot and lighter applications go - things like games and so on just don't benefit from it in the way that it would with a SSD.
  15. Milestone here as well running on a 2U custom server we designed. Hardware costs for the server was under £600 and that's been designed to go to 32 cameras without an upgrade. Just used desktop parts as well so easy job to do a DIY on.
  16. Not to be scrooge but any sign of AMD based systems yet? E450 FTW! Who needs Atom!
  17. We do monthly backups to tape using DPM 2012 - it does the job very well and is supplemented with 3x daily backups to hard drive (in the DPM server). Thanks to EES the cost is VERY cheap and it can backup pretty much anything Microsoft based (Bare metal/Hyper-V VMs, drives/shares).
  18. Take a look on the Broadberry website - you can do some pretty nifty custom server designs that would fit your needs. Server 2012 with its 'almost real time mirroring' mode makes a SAN nearly useless as the data is duplicated between the two hosts and in small-medium installs this will be cheaper than having a SAN. £10k will buy you quite a lot of nice kit but do remember you need software (if you don't already have Server 2012 cals through EES/SA) as well so don't forget to factor that in!
  19. No poll...but either way Polo and T-shirts! Custom name prints if possible and maybe an option with a massive EduGeek logo on the back
  20. Why host on someone else's cloud when you can setup your own - a Home Access Plus+ install can do the basics of it and if you must then provide a VPN which can setup network drives into your network
  21. Surface with Windows RT is what you need Its both and neither at the same time!
  22. Netbooks? Didn't you hear - they are dead meat, everyone uses tablets now
  23. Doesn't seem to be very much to this article as far as facts go - looks more like scaremongering to pack in the punters to look at the big PC world ads on their site....
  24. Windows XP can do RAID1 through drive mirroring as part of software, to do RAID5 will require a hardware RAID controller (eg something from LSI). You may have issues getting the clone to work though as you will be going from one storage system (built in single drive) to a completely different one (hardware RAID). I'd like to bet you could do it with Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2+ would do it though. Either way we managed to built a new CCTV server with RAID5 (over RAID1 for more storage) for £600 using a custom server case and some new desktop PC parts so maybe it would be better to just start a new (budget allowing!!).
  25. If you are connecting via a school Wi-Fi network and you have a council broadband provider you may find they block some SMTP to all but a select few addresses.
