  1. One day it will sink in WINDOWS RT (surface RT) IS FOR THE CONSUMER ONNLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.... It is not manageable through AD, you can't image it, you can locally manage GPOs, although it does multi user login it is for Windows Live/Local account only. No school should even think about using them in this manner especially when full Windows 8 Pro (x86 powered) tablets can do everything your current Windows 7 PCs can do with the nice touch features.
  2. Never liked Skype much but then again I haven't used it since Microsoft bought them out....WLM on the other hand is still quite heavily used by me especially to keep in touch with my other half at uni. But hey guess that's progress for you time to see how well the Skype application works on Windows RT!
  3. Ahh the miracle of site licences and App-V
  4. I haven't seen anything that mentions we can't run it in VDI - some companies used to be quite nasty with TS/RDS but even a cursory glance of Google says nothing about it.
  5. Care to link to somewhere that is says we can't run it in VDI...
  6. Its time for video again! This time looking at Encryption in Windows RT with a TPM chip- Something we may all like is that the Surface RT comes right out of the box with Encryption turned on using the TPM chip that built right in.
  7. Latest video now up - Typing with touch cover and on screen - also cheating using a propper keyboard thanks to USB support!
  8. Sounds about right weve been largely fine on v1.35 that comes on the Agility 3s now - did have pretty weird thing with the Vertex 4s when flashing them to the latest version (needed to remove the power from the SSD before booting the PC again else it stuck on the previous firmware version. Either way I think it was a software thing although I am thinking about other options for the next roll out.
  9. What model was that one? Weve only ever used the newer Agility 3s and the Vertex 4s.
  10. They arnt thattt bad Only one failure out of 120 so far and we even run our VDI and RDS server off of them.
  11. Ive said it before and Ill say it again - Surface RT is for personal use, all ARM tablets that are out at the moment are for personal use in fact. Now Windows 8 Pro with a x86 processor...that's another thing
  12. Last video of the day (number 5) now up- Surface with a second display and using a keyboard and mouse. Shows off command prompt, Word and PowerPoint, mmc (I caved!) with cert manager and GPO not to mention.......a quick show off of RDP
  13. Would everyone be happy if I just said that it is possible to get to local GPO, MMC and regedit just as you would on any normal windows PC? If so then yes you can do all of these things. Still against the idea of using it as a multi user device so pllllllease don't even try it and just get a x86 tablet! RDP works great video to follow
  14. By chance is this from the point of view of using it as a locked down device in a classroom?
  15. Video number 4 up- Running a PowerPoint on Surface RT
  16. Third video up- Web browsing, YouTube, iPlayer and more!
  17. Second video up- Printing on a HP CP1515
  18. Multitasking on Surface- First video up!
  19. Power is back up Uploading the first videos now.
  20. Videos to come include Snapping of applications In depth look at Office 2013 Using as a desktop replacement Web browsing/YouTube video playback ect
  21. Have been working through the videos and so far I have- Hardware overview USB Printing USB PowerPoint Presentations Will be uploading onto YouTube once the guys here turn on the power again! (Don't feel like uploading HD video onto YouTube via my mobile phone)
  22. If we get into the real world of business Microsoft et al want to make money, the best way they can do that is by separating out personal (Windows RT/8) from professional (Pro). So there is no technical reason it is pure business - something we will never be able to escape. Oooh don't worry there will be a keyboard click
  23. There will be vendors out there (HP for example) who are working on these lower end x86 tablets that run all the programs in the window store that will meet the needs of schools who want Domain Login and if they come with Atoms there is no reason why they shouldn't be around the £400 price point. We do have to break away from the point of view that some people have that iPads and Windows RT can be used in multi user environments though - they simply are PERSONAL devices that are designed to be used by the individual. Anywhos back on topic guys - is there anything else we want to see in a Video demo?
  24. RT was simply never meant to be used like that - its a personal OS for personal devices not for domain joning that is purely Windows 8. I have however seen mentions of Intel Atom/AMD C-50 powered Windows 8 Pro PCs that should arrive at a similar point. I might have to do a video about this point as well.....
  25. Office yes - I'm going to do a mini video on that I'm afraid I refuse to try and use a Windows RT device as a multi user device - thats what full Windows 8 is for (and I feel quite strongly about this). On a side note - Im already touch typing on touch cover and just using the onscreen keyboard is pretty easy too! Still working on getting the Xbox 360 controller to work with it....
