Nope, but they are old switches which I’m replacing with unifi ones over the summer. Just need to make sure LLDP is enabled if that what is needed.

+1 for the fluke kit, the only down side it doesn’t seem to report the port numbers on Netgear switches. Need to check if it reports on unifi switches.

Using the GPP method only mean that only installed applications have the shortcuts created and redirecting the startmenu to the local folder means only shortcut in that local folder appear on the start menu.

Looks like the proper Windows 10 Start Menu - by using the shortcut method via GPP Ive pinned Logoff to the Start Menu - Shutdown is enable from the Start Menu

The way I have managed to get a working start menu is by using Computer GPP (Computer -> Preferences -> Windows Settings -> Shortcuts) to create all shortcuts on the local drive eg. C:\Shortcuts\Staff Yes it is a pain to create them but once done it just a case of added new shortcuts when you install new apps. Once shortcuts sorted, I then redirect the Start Menu to the local folder - this also help when creating the Start Menu layout. Start Menu layout - uses - "%SystemDrive%\Shortcuts\Staff\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Word 2016.lnk" Not had any issue using this method. Hope that helps

I use to have 2 different ways of delivering the start menus - Students all shortcuts in a folder and then redirect the start menu to that folder Staff had normal start menu and extra shortcuts added via GPP Both methods had issues but following what @clareq mentioned in another thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/186172-start-menus-staff.html#post1594497 I have been trailing added all shortcuts to a folder on the local machine using a Computer GPP (so they get created on start up)- this way only the installed programs will have shortcuts. I then redirect the start menu to this folder and created/exported my start menu - and so far been working fine - only issue I have had is getting "This PC" showing on the start menu.

I found 1703 unbelievably bad - lock screen didnt work regardless of work arounds and updates. Logon times are almost double compared to 1607 and the profile in use was created on 1703.

Looking though my GPO and wondering how I can steamline how settings are applied. At present I have several smaller GPOs which makes it easier for testing and also gives me some flexibility regarding deployment. But I wondered - am I better keeping several smaller GPOs (eg. Folder Redirections, Separate Drive Mappings, User Settings, etc) or am I better combining them in to less - larger GPOs I can see the benefits in both but never really looking into which is the best method and wondered how other people have their GPO settings.

I am using SCCM to deploy Oracle VirtualBox and following by script to register the VMs Has worked well in the past, however when testing on Windows 10, we have found that for some machines the VMs do not appear. The VMs will appear for Admins such as myself but not students or teaching staff. I have amended the script to create a log file and the VMs are registered fine - but dont appear for users - only admins...... Anyone come across this before or know how to solve this? Cheers

I'm trying to schedule updates in to my Windows 10 OS Image but for some reason they not appearing. I'm on the latest version (1702) and I understand that there was an issue which was currected in CU1. Anyone else had this issue - if so how did you resolve it? Cheers

Seems simple enough using GPP as would do it for PC and not user. Would it be possible to have a look at your script please (cheeky way of asking for a copy )

Currently planning vlans and need some questions answering from people who have vlans, wifi (meraki if poss) and smoothwall setups Currently taking the existing IP Range and splitting it down into small chunks.... eg.. Desktop, Servers, Printer etc. My idea for the wifi vlans are as follows: VLAN 100 - Wireless APs IP: 10.16.118.1/24 (Network IP Range) SUBNET: 255.255.255.0 RANGE: 10.16.118.0 - 10.16.118.254 HOSTS: 254 VLAN 130 - School Devices IP: 10.16.117.0/24 (Network Range) SUBNET: 255.255.255.0 RANGE: 10.16.117.1 - 10.16.117.254 HOSTS: 254 VLAN 110 - Staff Wifi IP: 10.0.2.1/23 SUBNET: 255.255.254.0 RANGE: 10.0.2.1 - 10.0.3.254 HOSTS: 510 VLAN 120 - Student Wifi IP: 10.0.2.1/22 SUBNET: 255.255.252.0 RANGE: 10.0.4.1 - 10.0.7.254 HOSTS: 1022 VLAN 140 - Guest Wifi IP: 10.0.8.1/24 SUBNET: 255.255.255.0 RANGE: 10.0.8.1 - 10.0.8.254 HOSTS: 254 Meraki config - I would set up the reevant VLANs on the SSIDs etc and enable VLAN tagging. On my core switch have a port tagged only allowing traffic with VLANS 110, 120 & 140 and plugged directly into a different port on smoothwall and configure this port with the vlans and get this port to use DHCP So.... does this seem a sensible approach and easy enough to implement? My brain hurts from VLAN planning! Only ever maintained vlans on Netgear switches - so never used cmd line stuff to set them up before. Cheeky question - could someone who has vlans on these switches kindly PM me a example of a switch config so I can see the commands etc. - obviously remove any sensitive details. Cheers

Is this scripted? How do you make sure new shortcuts are added and old ones are removed from each machine?

Another question but this time about Filtering. On Premise currently uses Kaspersky - when I change DNS setting to use O365, I take it O365 filtering will take over and I can remove Kasperksy? Cheers

We have a fully redirected Start Menu for students - so they get all shortcuts regardless is application is installed or not - works fine and logons are quick. Staff - we give them the normal Start Menu and add extra shortcuts via GPP which works well but is slow! In a bid to speed up logon times for staff I'm thinking of giving staff a fully redirected Start Menu (similar to students) but with extra shortcuts for Sims, Smartboard Apps, etc. How do other people deliver Start Menus to staff?

Currently DNS and MX records are pointing to my onsite exchange server. My setup is a hybrid system, so emails are forwarded to my small test O365 mailboxes. Any users who have O365 Mailboxes have to use the O365 Portal to access emails and internal mailboxes use the current onsite OWA portal. If I change the DNS & MX records to point to O365 - will the following happen? 1. Will the current onsite OWA address will redirect to O365 login page? 2. O365 will forward emails to mailboxes still on onsite Exchange server without any config changes? 3. Mailboxes users on either onsite or O365 wont notice any difference other than Login page and login details? Does that sound about right? Also, current settings on devices will need altering so they use full email address as username. Cheers

Cheers, not looking to transfer licenses just looking to remove the APs from our Dashboard and sell the Access Points. Reading the link, looks like I can, buyer will need to licence them.
