Yea did all that - also added the subnet under Network->Subnet and still no joy. DHCP wouldnt work plus from a manual IP i could only ping the vlan gateway address. I could perceive with it but I think my sanity will rather get someone in to sort it and leave me in the safe knowledge it would have been done correctly

Ok..... had a look this morning and I am admitting defeat and feeling very inadequate - so if any suppliers out who feel they can help please get in touch, also happy for fellow edugeeker to tag suppliers etc and will leave it up to the supplier to decide if they want to contact me. To save relaying the same information to different companies, the network consists of the following: Firewall/Router - Smoothwall S8 UTM Core Fibre Switch - DLink DXS-3600-32S Core Copper Switch - DLINK DGS-3420-28TC Edge Switches - Unifi EdgeSwitch Lite Wireless Access Points - Meraki APs Would like VLAN creating so Windows clients use Windows DHCP and Meraki Wireless Clients use Smoothwall DHCP. Please PM me your contact details and I will be in touch.

DLink DXS-3600-32S and yea added IP to VLAN interface and pointed gateway address to the switch but managed to get some bits working but the biggest issue was the Meraki Wifi. I ran out of time during the summer break which is why I opted to abandon it.

When you say firewall rules to pass traffic...... does this also include traffic for DHCP, DNS etc...... Was going to take look later this morning and wanted to check before I spend some time scratching my head why it doesnt work

@tomearnshaw thank for the details - now have it working
-
@tomearnshaw i just looking at Booked and having issues getting AD Integration to work - do you have details on which files you amended to get it working? Cheers

I did think about that and suggested it (apart from the touch screen part.....) but the "higher ups" decided against it as we have a number of different people covering the main switch board - plus they felt headphones to answer a call could prove problematic for some staff Might suggest it again but with touchscreen and the use a USB phone/handset to allow answering of calls.

Just signed up to SIPGate.co.uk which offers a free 30 day trial - this will allow me to test internal/external features. I've spoken to a number of companies, most have said they could provide a SIP trunk at a nominal cost so I can test things. I've been in touch with the following companies. Spitfire (from 3CX list of suppliers and have SIP Trunk settings already configured in 3CX) M247 (Current ISP - seeing if we can get things cheaper as we currently have connection with them) Lloyds IP Communications (Current phone company) VoIP Unlimited - Mentioned on here in a previous post Some of the people I have spoken to have tried to push their hosted solutions! It is quite amazing how many calls I have had from companies offering VoIP services who I havent even approached! Shows they look at their web traffic. For phones - I have taken the compatible phone list from 3CX and for testing I have purchased 2 Yeaink T19P - basic phone which would be suitable for some offices, will probably get a better phone for people who use phones constantly. Still not sure which phone to get for the main switchboard, so I'm open to suggestions for this one.

Will be introducing IP Phone, plus want to separate wireless traffic etc

I attempted to set up VLANs in the summer and failed miserably. i've had a break from looking at this so hopefully try again with a slightly clearer head. Last time I tried to use our Core (DLink) Switch to handle the routing - so this time I am going to use Smoothwall to handle the routing. So before I set off down this slippery road again - I wondered if anyone has any details/guides for setting up Smoothwall to handle VLAN routing followed by configuring Unifi EdgeMax Lite edge switches to forward VLAN routing to the Smoothwall box. Thoughts so far.... 1. Smoothwall internal network Port - add VLAN Ports and assign VLAN IP Address to each VLAN port - leaving the untagged IP as the default gateway address 2. DLink Core Switch add VLANs but not assigned any IP address to those VLANs. 3. Unifi edge switches add VLANs but not assigned any IP address to those VLANs. 4. Configure DHCP on Windows Server for all VLANs except wireless 5. Configure DHCP on smoothwall for Wireless VLANs (using Meraki and Smoothwalls recommended way of setting this up) 6. Core switch add IP Helpers (not sure if I need to add on edge switches) 7. Tag some ports and test before rolling out whole school. I have a feeling I have missed some important bits out so feel free to point things out

Only using those 2 phones for testing. Will probably be looking at different phones nearer the time.

Just got hold of 2 yealink T19 phones and I’m impressed how easy they were to configure. Hunt groups now working as well. 3CX called to ask if they can pass my details to a partner so I can get 30 day pro licence so I can test all the features. Just in the process of getting SIP pricing.
-
I was thinking in the a couple of offices such IT Support or Finance, etc where we have a phone per desk. Incoming calls would be handled by the hunting group - and rings both phones - Outgoing calls, I don't staff will see the individual phone numbers of the actual extension - I would rather they see the group number, if that make sense.
-
Just had a question asked - can you call 1 internal number and have it ring 2 phones? and also....... for a shared office, can you have 2 phones with 1 ext number?
-
Installed 3CX to look at and seems very easy to setup (not got a SIP trunk - so can only test internally) Softphone is good - only used this for testing at the moment, I have ordered 2 Yealink T19P phones so I can test settings actual phones etc.... Next question is SIP Trunk/Lines...... We currently have 4 incoming and 4 outgoing lines - I am assuming 1 SIP Trunk with 4/8 lines is reasonable? How many SIP Trunks/Lines do other people have?
-
Looking at the different phones....... what is the difference between IP Phones and SIP Phones? If using 3CX which is better/suitable?
-
Thanks for the info everyone, will take a look at 3CX and yealink phones. And if I have any question I’ll post on here

We are looking to replace/upgrade our phone system and to save money we are looking to do as much as we can in house. The current system is analogue, so all handsets (approx 50) will need replacing as cheaply as possible. I'm looking at FreePBX as I have seen mentions of this on here so I figured why not give it a look see. So for those using FreePBX, can you recommend IP phones for offices and also something for the main switchboard and any addons which you think are needed. Many thanks

Have you had a look at this thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/175168-student-staff-home-pages.html Thanks to @FragglePete for sharing his page & code, works well and uses PHP, MySQL and IIS. Side tiles can be displayed for all or can be displayed depending on AD Groups. I use global and staff tiles and some admin only tiles. Notices are simple to add with date ranges to display the messages, so staff can enter messages with a future date and message won’t appear until that date etc Admin access is controlled via iis/NTFS permissions. I’ll post some screen shot tomorrow if that helps.
