Can anyone help, we found some pictures of a disturbing nature in a users area and want some guidance. The matter has been reported to SLT but we are unsure of legal implications. I won't say anymore so can you PM me if you have any knowledge of this.

I was told by my Head today that it also depends whether you have PFI funding and if we took BSF money we wouldn't be subject to the conditions if it wasn't PFI money..........I'm now more confused. Our school has had lots of buildings rebuilt over the last 5 years so we actually don't require a full re-build just some touches here and there which BSF will apparently cover. Just to make things more confusing, the land that our school is built on is owned by an educational charity which also has implications and just to make it more confusing our Junior school is owned by the LEA!

Regarding the help desk call and the next 15 mins trying to get the teacher in question to fix their problem.........how may schools actually have phones in their classrooms?! I know that when most of our teachers call, they tell us their problem and then hang up, they don't have time to try a fix over the phone, they just expect to see you in their classroom in 2 mins time. If they are expected to hang on the phone with some help desk then surely the students education will suffer which is the reason why we are all employed.

We use the script that was posted on here last year to capture students IE history, then every couple of weeks we search for various terms (proxy, porn etc. use your imagination!). When we find abusers they are immediately added to a seperate OU with no internet access and that redirects their web page to one informing them that they need to see the Assistant Head. They are then shown the evidence and warned about internet safety, if they are then caught a second time their parents are called in for a meeting with the headteacher. 8 months ago proxy use was rife but now that word has got round we are not catching anyone! Thanks to the edugeeker who posted the script.

I walked into an IT suite and the teacher complains to me (in front of her class) 'this keyboard is really wobbly, I can't work like this' etc. etc. I calmly walk up and put the other keyboard leg out!! Her class just looked at her in disbelief as did I.

I used to think along the same lines that teachers, Heads and Deputy's were overpaid but since i've been a governor at the school for the last 18 months my opinions have change dramatically. Yes we do have some crap teachers that don't deserve their pay but that is true of all professions, i'm sure that everyone on Edugeek thinks that they are excellent at what they do but we know that a % of us must be crap, i'm pretty sure I could do better for my school, I don't know everything I maybe should and when I read post's on here I know there are gaps in my technical knowledge. My respect for the SLT here is huge, the things that they have to take on and have responsibilty for is immense far more than I ever realised, the Head and his staff at the end of the day have the potential to mould a youngster into a mature young intelligent adult and kick them off on their future career path......not sure I would want that responsibilty.

Panic over we have tapes for January, our MFL Head had just glanced over the letter and only saw a mention of CD/MP3 and panicked, if she had read on it also mentioned tapes! For the summer exams we will only get CD/MP3 so we have sensibly decided to replace our existing tape players with CD players.

Sorry, not a very professional comment but here we are with the exam in January and i'm getting this dumped on me 2 days before we finish for Xmas, what the hell do we pay these Heads of Depts for!!
