  1. Having worked on both sides - I can tell you that the devil is in the detail. I don't think there's any reason that a managed service couldn't be OK - but negotiating and tying down a contract that ensures that it will happen is beyond the skill set of anyone I've ever met in education. The other problem you get is that once you've let your skilled workers go - if your maintenance company doesn't perform or goes bust - you're really up the creek as you've no in house skills to get it all sorted out and you're into the sweaty hands of "consultants" brrrr
  2. As a "retired" slacker - I've just joined U3A - and now I'm the youngest at any gathering by quite a margin - great!
  3. I know the school say they want the passwords in a spreadsheet - we did that and it didn't take long before some dopey teacher allowed the kids to get a copy and a lot of misery and hard work ensued!
  4. Have you got a reference for this law?

  7. And do bear in mind that there is only one way that interest rates are going to go in the future - and that is up!
  8. I suppose the Life Insurance thing only makes sense if you have a family - if you're buying on your own it would serve no purpose at all - and the lender wouldn't lose out as they can have the house anyway...
  9. I'm barred and have been since I had an op back in 2001 and they don't know whether the blood I received was contaminated with "mad cow" disease - great! My missus has just been barred too after finding she has a bone marrow abnormality - so 2 less regular donors - sad really
  10. I guess the idea is that you mix some cold water in with it when its too hot....sigh....you're not a teacher are you?
  11. In my copious free time I do a lot of walking - earlier this week I was trudging round a local nature reserve and all the trees were covered in blossom - but I didn't see a single bee or any other insect come to that on any of the trees - a bit strange I thought
  12. And with a combi - you get as much hot water as you want, when you want it - not spend hours cursing the person who used all the hot water in the immersion tank!
  13. We got "academied" and our whole system was chucked out and replaced - just about the time I went into hospital, never to return...
  14. We used to use Axel boxes and I was very pleased with the product and company - a lot easier to use (and quicker) than the HP clients we also had..
  15. Interesting bit on dropped kerbs http://www.penaltychargenotice.co.uk/parking/contraventions-for-parking/contravention-code-27/
  16. Cheers Vik - blimey 159 - sometimes I feel that old!
  17. How do you tell? I've been on here for seems like ages - just wondered where I was in the list of sign ups?
  18. We're overloaded with rhubarb at the moment - so made a big batch of rhubarb and ginger ice cream - its easy and VERY yummy
  19. Parking against a drop kerb can lead to your car being removed (it happened to my missus) - though I think its only if someone complains - and to be fair the police did try and call her to tell her to move the car before it was taken, but she wasn't in, so didn't pick up the call
  20. Yeah - and I suppose it depends on whether the numerous abandoned but very expensive govt IT projects are factored into the costs - as they really don't add anything to the mix apart from costs paid to outsourcing companies...
  21. I think I'd want some proper numbers for what that figure actually means!
  22. My LG is throttled down when trying to read CDs and DVDs >:-(
  23. The school where my son goes has got a bar - pretty cool I always thought, though it is part of the theatre complex
  24. Blimey! What options did you take? I only managed 120 points with 7/20 right on the whole of the UK
  25. I should say he was late - by about 3 centuries!
