Big 5 headline acts coming in the SIMS spring release | capita-sims.co.uk -
You may be involved in a discussion regarding safeguarding / e-safety as this appears to be high on their agenda at the moment but as the majority of the above have said - it will be highly unlikely that you will see them around nevermind talk to them.
-
I guess this is where the confusion comes in. It was an idea to be consulted - not sure whether it was actually passed through after the consultation period on the 3rd August 2012. I can't find any information to say that it has all been agreed.

When we originally launched our cashless catering system 3 years ago, we gave all parents the opportunity to attend school for a parent meeting to go through the information we would hold and to listen and hopefully resolve any concerns they had. Only 3 families turned up and after the meeting they were happy for us to hold biometric details on their Son / Daughter. We however do not have any hard written returns from our parents as it was originally an opt-out scenario. The question I ask, is whether we now need to contact all parents again and actually get written consent from them to hold this information and hold this within school.

What are people doing / have done for the new Government guidelines for September 2013 that written consent has to be sought before schools can hold biometric information. BBC News - Biometric data: Schools will need parents' approval I had heard this hasn't been passed through the house or lords but also some organisations are saying that it is required. Our cashless catering provider was unable to help and when I contacted Biostore they are in the process of putting some information together. Is this a legal requirement for September 2013 or not?

i don't think Meraki will have any problems running via RUCKUS. It plays nicely via our HP kit and I can't see them being vendor agnostic.
-
I notice it occasionally here as well on our Windows 7 machines, although It's not the same model etc that it effects - it's just a bit random.
-
I use iTap and Pocketcloud on my iPAD on a windows 2008 TS. I wouldn't recommend it for long periods of time unless you look at getting a bluetooth or something similar, but certainly it works when ever I need to logon quickly.
-
I would recommend you set yourself up an account on the Supportnet website if you don't have a logon already. http://support.capitaes.co.uk/newlogin/login.asp A guide will be on here after a quick search (hopefully). It's a matter of using the dbdetach and dbattach tools, but off the top of my head it may require additional steps and its been a while since I carried it out myself.

We've gone the Meraki route - seems to work fine.

Been a SIMS school here for what seems like for ever and after converting to academy renewed our SIMS licences direct with CAPITA. Unless we have just been extremely lucky compared to most of the posts I see on here and the SupportNet site, it just seems to be fine for us and we rarely if ever have had a major support issue. The majority of the things I can fix myself either as I have seen it before or through the searching of the knowledge base on the SupportNet site. In effect, our LA have had £6.5k off us for SIMS support for a number of years for very little.

Theres a new PM Module due out for SIMS very soon also - i've seen mock ups of the screen but not sure of the actual date of release. No cost I believe as it's part of the Core SIMS package.
-
From their Office365 twitter account: Some Microsoft services experienced a short-term issue resulting from routine maintenance which has been restored to normal.

I thought the stands and freebies were very disappointing this year. I come home with 4 pens. Couldn't be bothered to lump a load of stuff around London for two days.
-
Yep, £1 per item!

This morning after two support tickets landed on our help desk with interesting results First projector didn't show the image of the PC - member of staff had chosen the input as Video and not computer Second projector wouldn't turn on - the sanyo remote on the teachers desk isn't really compatible with the Epson projector on the roof. I decided to share these on twitter using the hashtag #ithelpdesk a few of my followers joined in, I think I am going to make it a weekly thing probably on a friday to share these 'interesting' tickets that have been submitted by our staff. Feel free to join in, with some of the strangest requests you receive.

We have been fieldtrialling the 64bit image and it is due out for release by next half term holidays I believe.

Do you bother replacing old, but working smartboards?
Sylv3r replied to sidewinder's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We have never replaced a promeathean board in the 15 years we have used them, they don't particularly get used to the full potential anyway and if a board was to fail it would be unlikely that we would replace it, we certainly wouldn't replace them unless their was a curriculum need (the teacher was one of the better users). -
We will probably look to upgrade to 10GBe backbone this summer, whether that is across the site in one go or phased over 2 years.

I don't have anything to do with the CENSUS and SIMS, but my data manager had the same error and asked me to install this. Learning Records Service - Publications & tutorials - Tools - Validation tool She didn't get back to me and the CENSUS has gone so I take it it must have resolved the issue.

Essa Academy - Home This is the first school that springs to mind when you mention a device for all staff and students. They hold open days quite reguarly for other schools to visit, not sure if they charge etc but it maybe worth you getting in touch.
