5 years to today we last had Ofsted. We have been waiting for the call for a few months now. I hope all goes well.

Not sure if you are contemplating ever using something like Office 365, but from April this year it's not supported on IE8.

Would love to write to two SAN's I just coudldnt justify the costs.

It sounds exactly the same setup as us and our SAN died the other month after getting corrupt with no visible warnings. Is it an EMC VNXe3100 by any chance?

You really need to sell the benefits to staff - making their lives easier, saving time, won't loose work incase of memory pen corruption. It's about drop feeding the information, mentioning it whenever possible.

[sims] SIMS Learning gateway (attendance registers) and iPads
Sylv3r replied to Oops_my_bad's topic in MIS Systems
The mobile friendly version is more for parents logging in - getting a brief overview and headline figures. The SLG has been tweaked to make it slightly easier to use for staff for doing registers - bigger buttons etc, but I wouldn't really call it a mobile version. -
We bought 200ish in the summer - no problems at all with them and they are all in use in suites. We don't tend to get any major vandalism if any at all - not sure how well they would cope if the kids starting messing with them properly.

Im not a member of Durham Library but just did a search and its available there for those that are.

We've got both the large IRIS camera and the Discovery kit. Expensive pieces of kit if you don't use them a lot. They are relatively simple to use once setup, the IRIS support team are pretty helpful and will give you plenty of guidance to get setup etc.

We have the £15 education package. We never really wanted the Sky Sports package but when I enquired - we were quoted ££££

Ours is next Tuesday.

I posted on the previous page that I used Evernote back in 2010 and still using it now! Perfect.

We haven't got it, but when I looked into it 18 months it wasn't possible then.

I was at a SIMS conference last week, where a SIMS app was demoed. I am not sure how much I am able to share, but from Spring 2014 theres an iOS app that will allow access to attendance, timetable, student details with further features available in the Summer release. I am unaware of costings etc.

Give me a ring tomorrow - we used it a year or two ago but not anymore.

We pushed out Office 2013 to all of our users ready for our return in September. Only thing that we had problems with, was Sage 200 as it didn't like it. Not sure an update is now available which resolves the issues.

We bought in as a secondary school with 1500 students. It's certainly been worth the money for us with the Office365 SSO. It does at the minute seem to cater a lot more for primary then secondary as you can tell by the majority of apps available to install in app store, but as you can now create your own tiles, it's helped us bookmark relevant sites for staff and students easily.

Which LA are you in? It's a bit strange that your LA hasn't started pushing the use of SOLUS 3.0 to their schools. If your a member of the capita support net site you could probably download the SOLUS3.0 ISO and install and setup yourself. It won't interfere with SOLUS2.0 so you effectively could still use that if you don't crack the use of SOLUS3.0 I know people on here have had mixed feedback but we've not really had any issues since release.

I saw a demo at a recent Network Manager meeting in the area and I did like it. Not something we need, but it certainly did look to have some promise.

Migrate from FirstClass to any other email client!
Sylv3r replied to mtillbrook's topic in Cloud Services
I spent weeks and I mean weeks before the summer holidays investigating migrating our FirstClass server to Office365. It just doesn't work. IMAP is flaky on the FirstClass server and any messages I did manage to pull off was from the root inbox folder. Any e-mails that had been put into a separate folder wouldn't upload. I asked Firstclass about the IMAP problem and they just said it does work.... Microsoft were very helpful and they checked and double checked my IMAP settings as they said everything was fine. After a google search about others attempting to migrate the data from the box - most have just stopped after hitting a brick wall. So we just had to relicense again for another year, I am determined by this time next year, we will have moved to another product.... somehow. If you find a way, i'd be interested in hearing what you have done - to be honest even if I have to pay FirstClass to help me migrate the data I may be tempted. -
To be honest, I think your going to struggle to get a classroom observation solution that does everything that Iris does as it's quote bespoke. From when i've investigated it before, theres not to many systems on the market. We've just this week put an order in for Iris ourselves.

If the video plays for around a second then you get the 'an error has occurred' message we found here it was because there was no speakers / headphones in the PC's to playback audio.
