  1. I prune mine every now and again and delete the oldest ones. I've got a few days recently with multiple backups as we've been installing a few patches lately for our CENSUS.
  2. Has anybody else had any parents mention that various elements of the Learning Gateway are not showing for users with Safari.I have managed to replicate the issue on my mac at home, the data just doesn't seem to load. It's fine using Chrome or IE on a windows 7 machine. We are a self-hosted install.I'll log a support call on Monday, I was just wondering if it's just us. Thanks Andrew
  3. We've got a 'hospitality' account and we just use that for our external cover people.
  4. We've been using the RBS since September and can 100% recommend it. Works well with AD integration for us so the staff don't have to remember another login.
  5. We have had our helpdesk in place for around 7 or 8 years and students, parents and staff have used it from the start. We don't get many student requests during the day, but we do get some helpful ones letting us know when something isn't working, toner is running out on a printer etc. We get a lot of parent submissions generally around report time when they receive a text to say the reports are live and they forget their Learning Gateway logon details. I don't see any reason not to allow students access and if it does get abused it should be relatively straight forward to trace which account it has come from.
  6. We are probably going to go with Equitrac. Slightly more expensive but from the demo i've seen it looks good.
  7. It's possible but not supported by RM is probably what they mean. Can I ask why you want them on the desktop - everyone will want icons eventually and it will become unmanageable. I have a feeling it's been mentioned on here before including the solution if you try a quick search.
  8. Can't the missing registers widget send a SIMS message to all users who haven't completed the register? If everybody has the Messages widget on their SIMS desktop it will show outstanding registers just for them.
  9. @mrdolan I like what you've done. We've setup something similar a while ago but it wasn't as good as yours. If you ever release it, we would love a copy.
  10. We've used Video Conferencing quite a bit in Geography. National Space Centre Education - Operation Montserrat The students love doing this. We've done it for the last 3 or 4 years now.
  11. I should also mention class charts allows staff to create seating plans for all lessons and the staff are also using these each lesson + incase of staff absence cover /agency staff are able to logon and see exactly where students should be sitting. Theres a built in parent portal too, where if you don't use something like SLG you can provide parents with logon information to view student behaviour online.
  12. Hi Emma Take a look at http://www.classcharts.com, we launched it with all staff at the start of the term and they love it. It's relatively simple to use and the company are open to suggestions on developing the product. Our staff felt the Behaviour Management on SIMS was too clunky and it wasn't utilised as well as it should - we weren't getting informed of the low level behaviour incidents. Class charts writes back into SIMS so you can run reports off as normal, we also use SLG so parents are able to see the behaviour and achievement incidents via their logon as normal.
  13. Short answer. No. Or not that i've discovered anyway!
  14. We just use a google form to show expression of interest with all their contact information. Someone then gets in touch if they require any further information.
  15. Yeah I had that with IE10 at school. Using IE11 now and it's fine but can't remember whether I am using compatibility mode or not.
  16. Yeah we've got a Climate Montor CM-2 as well. Works well.
  17. I did the west coast of the US last year starting in San Francisco and finishing off in Las Vegas, with LA, Santa Monica, Colarado River, Grand Canyon, Yosemite Park and Route 66 (plus others I can't remember) in between. Loved the holiday and can wholeheartedly recommend it.
  18. As pointed out above - unfortunately not. Theres hundreds of us crying out for this change, but apple don't seem to be forthcoming.
  19. Quite happily using Airwatch for 50 iOS devices. It does support Windows but I haven't tried it.
  20. I just bought the site licence for CS6 around a month or so ago so it should still be available.

    Your Desk!

Here's mine. No time to tidy it up yet. Thats generally the INSET day before we return job.
  22. We have used AR for the whole of Year 7 this year and it has been a huge success. We've turned it into a bit of a competition between the form classes and reading has been a major hit. We also provide a 30 minute reading slot each week on a rolling timetable, which has also been a major benefit. Other than initially setting the users up, I haven't had to do that much admin. The librarian manages it.
  23. Have you thought about the use of Social Media - Facebook / Twitter etc? Most students and Parents will be checking such sites on a regular basis. Everytime we publish a new article / newsletter on our school website we also post a link on the Facebook / Twitter pages. Up to now, we haven't really had any issues with abuse etc.
  24. We use Airwatch to manage our iPADs. I think it will do everything you wish apart from the locking out the settings. I don't think any MDM currently offers this functionality complete - you can add the restrictions to various things but not settings completely.
