Well both Activision (Activision lines up six game titles for Nintendo Wii U- The Inquirer) and UbiSoft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch_Dogs) appear to be actively supporting the Wii U. The problem for the Wii U is it is barely more powerful than the PS3/360. I already have a PS3, these 3rd Party games are being released on those consoles too. I get the same experience from the same game without having to donate £350 to Nintendo. Then of course there is the PS4/XB1, I'm hoping for a better experience out of Watch_Dog's on that. I've said elsewhere, Nintendo need to focus on their core market and get some quality first party games out. An exclusivity deal with Sega could really help out. A lower £200 max price point. And sorting out the Virtual Console as between Sega and Nintendo they have some very very compelling IP there. Done correctly and Nintendo can be come the 2nd console of choice. After all why would you want to buy an XB1 if you bought a PS4 (or vise-versa)? They're the same console. If the only place you can play both Sega and Nintendo is on the Wii U, with all that history and some new compelling titles?

[pics] Never Need More Than 640 KB Of RAM? Have a Look At 128GB Of RAM!
tmcd35 replied to 6Foot2's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Our best Hyper-V server has 96Gb. I'm putting 128Gb down as the *minimum* spec for next years purchase -
I suspect it's more a case of the task can't be broken down in to any smaller chunks. Everything has it's limits. An example might be encoding a video on 1 CPU taking 80% load or a 10% load on 8 CPU's. But still only 10% on 8 CPU's when 10 CPU's are available because the task can't be broken down into enough threads to use all 10 CPU's. @dbmix has 80 CPU's and he want them to all run at 100%!?!? Assuming 3DMax supports all 80 CPU's there's no reason to think it's going to max them all out when rendering. Sure it might max out 8 CPU's but when the same job is split over 64 CPU's and doesn't even touch 18 CPU's let alone top 50% on the ones it is using, he is panicking. @dbmix, do you have a lot of 3D tasks to render? (I assume it's your main business given the beast of a server). Maybe running 3-4 copies of the program in parallel and getting them to run separate tasks would be the best use of the available resources?

They should have stopped at 2! It's like the Die Hard films, the more sequels they make the more they move away from what made the first film great. Seriously what was Beverly Hills Cop in Mickey Mouse Land (aka 3) all about any way?

Ahh, now makes sense what you're trying to achieve! Forget Hyper-V, Windows 2008R2 supports 256 logical processors and Windows 2012 supports 640 logical processors (Windows Server - Sockets, Logical Processors, Symmetric Multi Threading - Matthijs's blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs) with up to 2Tb or 4Tb of RAM respectfully on Standard/Enterprise/Datacenter x64 editions. You don't need to enter multiple license keys - just the one. So that just leaves the software you are running. Trouble is I don't know the software or what it is trying to do - how it is designed to work. Could be that whatever you've been doing so far just hasn't stretched is enough to require spawning more threads? The software might support using your setup to the max, but if it doesn't need to... I'd suggest asking the developers of the software.

God knows what you're trying to do and why, but if you really must fry the processors... 160 VM's running in parrallel. Run something really CPU intesive in each one like Prime95. I'm sure there's cheaper/easier/more responsible ways to fry eggs, but if needs must...

Vanilla Network from Scratch
tmcd35 replied to dcwhitworth's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Generally, building from scratch I would look at... Windows 2012 Servers Hyper-V virtualisation System Center Suite for various management tools (not just SCCM) Windows 7 Pro 64bit desktops Office 2013 EES for licencing If I could complete start a fresh here It's what I'd do. To be fair I've spent the past 4-5yrs moving in that direction and we're about 90% there any way. Our use of Hyper-V could be tided up, would prefer a proper SAN, and better integration of System Center. -
So basically Man of Steel with giant robots and monsters?

So you used Windows 95 with Active Desktop and MSN Explorer then...

Microsofts general problem is they don't know who they are supposed to be competing against. Is Sony/Nintendo for gaming? Is it Apple/Google for TV and mobile? Is it Google/Yahoo for the Internet? Is it Oracle/VMWare for virtualisation? Is it Amazon in the cloud? Is it Software as a Service? They fighting too many battles on too many fronts and have forgotten their core markets along the way. I can see MS starting to loose their grip in the corporate world now. I can't remember where I read this, but I certainly agree, Microsoft should have been broken up into separate companies years ago.

Im using Wisesoft..... Can't import AD Users
tmcd35 replied to abillybob's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Have you copied the included .dll file into the right folder (system32 I think)? Also, the machine you're using is domain joined? I use Wisesoft tools almost exclusively for this sort of thing and never have a problem with them. More information would be helpful. At what point is it saying bad filename? Any indication on screen as to what it may be referring to? Are you able to post a sanitised screenshot of the spreadsheet with the settings/data you've used? -
Alas it includes their "get out of jail free" card:
-
Unpack the drivers somewhere easily navigable to and use "Have Disk", no need to let Windows search for anything.
-
The setting is in Group Policy, under... User Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Internet Explorer Maintenance -> Connection -> Proxy Settings Not sure it's wise turning it off though, may cause more problems accessing local resources.

Microsoft do seem to have an.....interesting....business plan for their, er, business products! 1) Get rid of the desktop and replace it with a touch interface 2) Make Office a cloud application 3) Retire Technet 4) Increase prices As @Gatt rightly points out - their smartphone and gaming business plans don't seem to be any better thought out. Did someone at MS Towers hit the self destruct button?

At 8:30, when I realised the program I wanted to watch wasn't going to be shown (I was periodically flicking back from BBC2 to check - learned a bit about Curry, nice), I actually went to BBC complaint's site and put in an official complaint. Can't remember what I put exactly but I did end with... Even the second coming wouldn't need 2hr's to announce his birth!

@dbmix, stop worrying. You have 80 cores!!! getting 100% CPU usage is very, very, very difficult. Build 80 virtual machines and run 3DMax inside each of them at the same time and you might have a stab of achieving it. For comparison my best server: 24 cores and 96Gb Ram. It's currently sitting at 18% CPU utilisation and 33% Ram utilisation. It's running 12 virtual machines including about 5-6 SQL servers and a pretty beffy Terminal Server (Quad-core, 16Gb max (I think)). As others have said the software your testing with probably wasn't written with that configuration in mind. Resource Monitor is showing everything present and correct, that's all that really matters.

I like the idea, not sure they're going the right way about it. I can see a market for a smartphone type device that runs 2-3 VM's, plugs into a station at work to become your main pc/laptop - perhaps managed by something like Spacewalk, plugs into a dock at home connecting to your TV to become a mediacenter/games console, plugs into a larger screen to become a tablet/laptop, etc. If I was them I'd concentrate on the business world first. Such a device with good central management tools and LibreOffice could take off since MS seem to be taking their eye of the ball at bit...

Seems the BBC think its worth taking all programs off BBC1 tonight to show pictures of nothing happening outside Buckingham Palace! I wouldn't mind but it's the sae shit they're showing on their 24hr news channel. I was actually looking forward to the scheduled program at 9. And whats scheduled for 10? More news. Thats 2hrs of "its a boy".

Ahh, when viewed along side this story - BBC News - Election countdown: 94 weeks to go - it all makes sense now. You cynical old dog, you! This isn't going to happen at all, he just want donations for his election campaign from BT and Virgin Media to make it all go away

That's interesting but throws up three immediate questions 1) The ISP's systems are linked into the central passport office database? (doesn't sound like a good idea, but a-ho) 2) Everybody wanting an (unfiltered?) internet connection needs a passport 3) Little Johnny didn't pinch Daddy's passport form the draw and disabled the filtering when he wasn't looking... I bet they wish they hadn't scrapped the National ID card now...
