  1. I'm not saying they are wrong - I'm just wondering how reincarnation would affect those figures?
  2. I went to school with two other people who were also the 4,220,162,845th person alive on Earth... in June 1977
  3. Another fine example of an Orwellian nanny state.
  4. Just checked over my agreement and "Expected Evective End Date" is in 2016! Think I just dodged a bullet!
  5. And to counter that - "Fine, but well only give you more games like AC:III"
  6. I agree entirely. But the counter arguement is "how much does it cost to produce a AAA game?". A couple of hundred people working 3-4 years?
  7. I'm probably sitting at the point were the full benefit of 720p is noticable, boarding the start of getting benefit from 1080p. I could move the sofa a little closer For a 3-4 year old second hand telly I'm might impressed with the Panny. Noticably better than the previous Tosh LCD. Got Freeview and FreeSat HD built in (and working) and all my consoles perminantly hooked up (Dreamcast, XBox, PS3). And still have HDMI to spare for PS4
  8. Actually when you adjust for inflation current games prices are the cheapest they have ever been! Why retail console games have never been cheaper, historically | Ars Technica
  9. Poor MicroSoft It appears they just can't win, Xbox fanboys don't know what they want... Internet petitioners want Xbox One’s digital sharing features back | Ars Technica
  10. I nearly went for a 50+" Samsung, but realised it would have been too big! According to The Gadget Show (viewing distance/3) about 44" is optimal for me. I found the perfect 42" Panasonic plasma on eBay for £330 so I'm well happy. The need for full HD on the PS4 is my excuse, I replaced an old Toshiba 37" 720p set
  11. The single best method on any version of Windows is to rename any of the files in this folder: C:\Windows\System32\config You should be able to do that remotely. Favourites are the SECURITY, SOFTWARE or SYSTEM files. Stops Windows loading the registry on boot and causes a nice black screen error message to appear. Give the teacher some waffle about "ooh, look like your hard drive is failing". Take laptop, rename file, all working again - thank you very much
  12. Just to point out that 2008 32bit can be upgraded to 2012, it's a fresh install (08 64bit and 08R2 are both fine).
  13. Personally - I'd plug it in. If you see smoke, then it was a bad idea...
  14. But what a play through! I think I'm about 2/3 through now and it just keeps getting better. Deserves all the awards and accolades it's been getting. Besides, you can replay on a harder difficulty? no? Neither will I! When I read this in iSpy I thought you where on about GTA V - lol. Can't wait to hit the Golf course
  15. Apple iPad Mini 8in tablet review [printer-friendly] ? The Register According to El Reg, the Mini's external resolution via either Airplay or HDMI is 720p.
  16. Depends on the phone system. If they are IP phones, then yes that will work. If they are standard digital phones, then no they won't work through a switch. I'm surprised they work through a splitter - bet then I don't know which wires are actually used by the phones.

    Mapping a drive

If it's for a single user (whose currently logged in) or a one off - you should be able to do it via the GUI. Windows should prompt for the username and password and their should be tick boxes to reapply at login and remember password. If it's a regular thing for all users then @bladedanny is right, put it in a logon.bat file.
  18. If that's the case GO BUY "The Last of Us", NOW! What are you doing still seated there? I said now, go on. I'm not interested in hearing excuses - hop to it

    Mapping a drive

net use S: \\server\folder /user:domain\username /password:password should do it, see net use /? for more details
  20. Wathed the gameplay video last night; I want to play GTA V even more now!
  21. We've been using "Classroom Booking System (CRBS)" which is developed by a forum member here, totally free, for the past couple of years. Just about to move to "CSE" which intgrates helpdesk, asset manager, and room bookings into one complete system.
  22. It's going to depend a lot on the size of the school and the knowledge/experience of the team maintaining the system. I don't think there is one true "1 size fits all, best practise solution" for schools to follow. But that said, here's my thoughts... CORE ICT? Logon directory service, Internet provision, filtering, e-mail, finance system, management information system, print management. How meny services do we run? We have about 30 servers and try for 1 service per server (virtualised). Each service runs on it's own virtual server, with have 3 vhost servers of varying capacity. We use Hyper-V. Basic redundancy - virtual hard drives are stored on a SMB share accessable by all three hosts. Our storage is a Windows 2008R2 server with 16x450Gb 15k rpm SAS drives (2xRAID-1, 2xGlobal Hotspare, 12xRAID-50). This is connected to 2x 2Gb(bonded) networks. One network for Hyper-V VHD access, the other for user data access on network shares. Yep, one central storage server for the whole lot! (probably not best practise ) Any Audio/Video is on the same storage service - but not much of it. If we were serious about Audio/Vidio I'd buy a QNAP box and dedicate it to the task. We use Barracuda Yosemite backup doing disk backup to a QNAP NAS box. We also take a robocopy mirror offsite once a term. Firewall? We will be using our Smoothwall box when all is set up properly.
  23. Erm, is that the whole point of a BBQ? (and how you tell the difference).
  24. I supose it's a question of how good Murray is against Djockovic on other surfaces? He certainly outclassed him yesterday, fantastic match and he solidly deserved the win! I don't really follow tennis (or any sport for that matter) - just watch Wimbledon final. What's up with Nadal and Federer? Are they both still up there, or have their careers now peeked and they now on the way out the game? Nadal has alway been my favourite player - shows a lot of flair, entertaining to watch. Federer at his best showed similar moments of genius. For the first time yesterday, watching Murray, I saw similar flair - which Djockovic didn't. Sprinting from one side of the court to the other to catch a drop shot...
  25. Nah, it's alright, he left Michael Gove in charge for the day
