  1. We're a 800 pupil secondary and firmly in the Stage 2 but might as well be Stage 1 for all the support it gets catagory. We desporately need to move into Stage 3 and think about netbooks, tablets and BYOD. Money's there for a managed WiFi setup if someone could justify it...
  2. Not often I'm allowed to stamp on the pedantic hat... I think it was a reference to Konrad Zuse...Konrad Zuse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Edit: Eeek, unless you spotted my unfortunate miss-spelling further up *runs away and hides in embarrassement*

    Games

I'm sure there's an online version. It's the gaming equivalent to crack cocaine (or so I'm lead to believe)... Galaxian! Bloody aliens just won't stop coming... And when you die the bloody High Score table sits there mocking you - is that really the best you can do? - What kind of man do you think you are? - You couldn't save the earth from an invasion of teddy bears let alone hoardes of menacing E.T.'s
  4. You could probably pair down Freeview to around a dozen channels actually worth watching. Broadcast them all in HD and still freeup more whitespace to help solve the rural broadband speeds problem. Push more more set top boxes like YouView with HDD and all ondemand players built in and what need is there for "Dave ja vu" or "E4 +1"?
  5. Don't watch live telly anymore ('cept the Breakfast news before work). The PS3 has all the ondemand streaming services I need. Love the freedom of not being tied to the schedule. I've always viewed +1 channels as the biggest waste of airwaves broadcasters have devised since QVC. More interesting, for me, was the personal iPlayer announcement they made at the same time. 30days instead of 7days availability, more personalisation, watch programs before they are broadcast, programs made for ondemand rather than live broadcast. That's the future. They just need to follow 4OD's example and start getting a decent back catalogue on line and I'd be happy. EDIT: better use of license payers money, than another +1 channel, would be to leave the airspace free and invest in 4G tchnology to help rural users get usable broadband speeds to take advantage of iPlayer.
  6. Mmm, I'm intrigued. Is it actually possible to not be hated by the Daily Mail? I thought they hated everyone and everything? I got to the "Vote Labour" question before the quiz realised I was a lost hope
  7. What I want to know is, did anyone pick option A or B? And if so what happens? Do I really have to replay the story to find out?
  8. Faulty controller. Corrupt FAT table. Had it happen to a 2Tb USB ext drive before last Christmas - with all my backups on, not impressed! Like I said above, time to buy a new drive.
  9. Given the boot order it's unlikely to be anything plugged into the USB. How old is the machine, does sound like a hard drive on it's way out. Have you tried booting from CD into a WinPE build or Linux desktop? From there you can take a look at the drive, see what's on it. Or add the drive as a slave in another machine. Wouldn't surprise me, if you made it a slave, if windows wanted to reformat the drive... Time to buy a new drive and rebuild.
  10. Even without adding in the case and controller to @Sunnyknight's spec (above) that kind of price, for a gaming only rig, bothers me as an up front fee. If I saw the availability of AAA titles I want to play, like Watch_Dogs, and was convinced by the long term support of the platform (as in a system I buy today won't be out dated in 3yrs because the specs have moved on) then I'd put £800 as my upper limit, all in, for the hardware. And that's double PS4's intial outlay. I'm not convinced that this is a serious continder to PS4 ot XB1. What it is is a "first steps", a bit like the original XBox - Microsoft never intended it to grab a large market share, just lay the groundwork for future releases. If it takes off and they prove themselves then this is a PS5/XBox4524245 killer. I'll keep my eye on it. Could be a mid gen purchase in 2-4 years time.
  11. They used the greek mythology theme here, until I changed it. Does my head in! Shout's of "Zues has gone down" are not funny when you desperately trying to remember which of 12 stupidly named servers hosted DNS, arrggghhhh!!!!!
  12. My first thought - nVidia, that'll do wonders for the uptake of AMD's Mantle API... Second thought- $675(£421, PS4 money). I wonder how an i3 (dual core?) and GTX660 compare, even with 16Gb Ram. Third thought - Is that 6Ghz GDDR5, or 6Gb GDDR5? One news story was listing that as Gb. (or did they say 3Gb VRAM in all?) Final thought - are the consoles themselves definately user upgradable, or are the parts soldered down? I only ask because reports of video ram seem alot for a GTX660 - so non standard parts, and people are already pointing out the size of a GTX Titan.
  13. Shoes, shirt, trousers. I tend to get away without a tie - every other male member of staff wears a tie. I think I get away with it thants to the different shirts I wear. I do get comments though when I sit in on interviews fully suited
  14. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you - that is all
  15. Yep, makes a refreshing change from that special kind of sun on the line slowing the Greater Anglia service down to London
  16. I think the point is - it's bloody cold in Iceland (unless you're standing next to a volcano, of course).
  17. Without looking at Googlemaps, I'm gonna hazard a guess at 3 - Scotland, Iceland and possibly Norway. If I remember rightly Moscow is on the same lattitude as London.
  18. only this one....
  19. Compared to other games I've played recently (Assassing Creed Revelations - I'm looking at you :coldhardstare: ) I've found GTA:V to be remarkably stable and bug free! Got my first dose of annoyance last night after some 40hrs of gameplay (speed boat decided to beach itself on a rock in the middle of a mission, grrrr.)
  20. Because then there'd be cries of "why do the americans get the PS4 two weeks before us" EDIT: sorry, that should have read GTA not PS4, my bad.
  21. Well the heist might be like in game, but the police weren't! Had I tried that in game I'd have had armed SWAT teams all over before I'd evenleft the port! Obviously Kent police are laking. Also, reminded me of True Crimes: Streets of LA. Every now and then a call would come over the radio to intercept a truck of stolen Activision games
  22. Interesting aside... It was [CTRL]+[sHIFT]+[ESC] on my old CPC [CTRL]+[bREAK] on the BBC Micro and [CTRL]+[AMIGA]+[AMIGA] on the, er, Amiga (I was tempted to put Atari ST ) Of the three I think Micro predates the IBM PC by a year? I wonder where this practice originates from?
  23. Desktops = Room-## (ICT1-01, ICT3-27,etc) or Room-TE (ICT2-TE) for the teachers machine Departmental Thin Clients = Deptartment## (English01, Maths02, Maths02, etc) Admin Desktops/Thin Clients = JobDescription## (Admin01, Finance03, Library01, etc) Staff laptops = staff code (ABR for Alan Brown, MSM for Maggie Smith, etc) Printers = Room-paper_size-[mono/colour] (ICT1-A3-Colour, Sciene-A4-Mono, etc) Servers = what they $£%$^" do (I hate server naming schemes) (printers, dc1, dc2, dhcp, simsdb, slg, webserver, etc) Everything else = [Manufacturer] [model] [descriptor] (BenQ MX504 Projector, HP Procurve 3560 Switch, etc)
  24. If we're talking API's there's alway OpenGL on Windows. Direct-X is not in compition with XBox since it's the same API on both platforms. Even Sony's new GNMX API is based on Direct-X. Are they? Consoles claim 42% of gaming market, says Microsoft - Gaming News - Digital Spy. $12bi says PC gaming is alive and well. Who? what? games? Detail? GTA:V? WINE is about Linux compatibility with Windows API's, and (especially for gaming) Direct-X. Seems very counter to the mission statement of SteamOS to me. I THINK you are right, but we are doing a lot of thinking - detail? Story, gameplay, comfort, environement immersion (weather effect, AI, etc), frame rate, then resolution. IMHO. Besides there's no evidence yet that either XB1 or PS4 are not capable of 1080p60 for AAA blockbusters. We just have lunch titles built with game engines ported from PC/current gen. Let's wait and see what the next year brings...
  25. Of course, the game won't actually be worth playing until it's available on SteamOS...
