Asus are made in the same factory as Sony laptops. I had one, the spec was good for the price. Better than a dell laptop for sure!

I managed to get RIS working on a handbuilt machine, diverting the NIC drivers, but the Dell Optiplex refused to work, even with the latest drivers. I know it's not me, as I got it to work with another machine... ergo... its Dell!

I was looking at a package that could create an image of a machine, then multicast to a group of machines (all in PXE, as Dells are pants once you get to the SMB section of RIS). This software could also deploy software to the clients. All done in a matter of minutes. It had other features, but these were the ones I was interested in. [rant]Anyway, the Head has said NO, because he wants to spend the money getting projectors into classrooms, even though I pointed out that they'd never get used, and would be a huge burden in terms of costs. He reckons that each dept would pay for a bulb when it went. Knowing this bunch of whiney teachers... they'll argue black is white, and in the end, the money will come from my budget, without my authorisation![/rant] Therefore...... I'm looking at something that does the same, in one package, and is cheaper. This package was £4k, for 150 desktops (£21 per seat + 20% support costs). Is anyone using a cheaper package that they can recommend, that does all of the above?

I always think that the dumb questions such as "list your good points and bad points" or "where do you see yourself in 5 years time?" says more about the interviewer than about the interviewee!! If you're asked questions like that, then the person hasn't conducted many interviews before!

You should just be able to activate the scope... in theory. However, I've found that this doesn't always work, but to unauthorise, then authorise the server and start the scope doesn't take a minute. What is does do though, is cock up, because it tried to dish out IP addresses that are already taken, and you get lots of false positives saying that there is a clash of IP addresses. And before Geoff jumps in to explain that DHCP shouldn't do that thanks to wonderful OFFER REQUEST LEASE & ACK ... it just does, but then again, it is Micro$hafts version of the DHCP standards!

I find in my school, that if the device to be purchased has a plug.... then it's IT! Which is good, because I make the necessary decisions, and, if I can justify them to SLT, then it's up to me to do it!

Totally agree, Vista is a complete waste of time and money. There was nothing wrong with XP and why you need 1gb of ram for a nasty 3d scrolling window thingy is beyond me! For most people, there is no reason to get vista!

one of the few things that works on my Vista is the file copying onto cd. The rest crashes at lot for no good reason even if nothings running I miss XP, I'm so tempted to format the c: drive and reinstall XP, but damn it, I want to play the new Halo when it arrives!
