Hello All, I obviously work in IT, and this may sound a bit of a novice question - but I really don't know the answer and hopefully you can help? I used to use a HP Pentium 4 laptop with 3GB of Ram with Win 7 (not originally installed with Win 7, I purchased a license for it). I have now upgraded to a HP i3 Processor with 16GB of Ram with Win 7. It is obviously quicker than the old laptop, but not as quick as I would expect for 16GB. Is there anything I can do to like kick the RAM into touch sort of thing as I don't feel I am getting 16GB Ram of power! I should have bought an i5 or an i7 really, but a HP laptop with i3, beats audio, and 750GB hard drive with 16GB of RAM, from PC world for £429.00 - I just couldn't refuse. (even though my previous laptop had JBL sound, and I found the JBL sounded better than the beats audio.... Do they just not make things like they used to? What can I do to make this machine - "rocket like"? Oliver.

Hopefully somebody can help, keep getting the above error when looking through photos in photo viewer in Windows 7. Any ideas?

I am looking into a possible cost saving solution at the moment to use Abbyy products within our organisation rather than Adobe Acrobat Professional. Has anybody any experience with the PDF transformer and Fine Writer? Oliver.

Has anybody seen the above error before in Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 7. It pops up saying COM Surrogate has stopped running and is forcing the close on PhotoViewer. Any ideas? Oliver.

Hello All, A user requires an OCR Package for her scanning. Does anybody know of any top dollar superduper fantastic packages that will work spot on? I don't want any cheapo packages to cause the user grief - it needs to be long term and needs to work well. Anybody any clues as to which one? Oliver.

I am currently setting up some machines that will sit in our reception area, hence they need to be very secure. I have accidently changed the control panel security settings against the PC rather than the user, and now I am locked out of control panel on all user accounts. Is there anyway I can sort this? Oliver.

One of our users had set up rules so that when she sent emails which contain attachments, they automatically didn't store in the sent items folder and moved to a personal folder (pst or archive some people may call them). Since the last windows update, this rule stopped working. Has anybody seen this happen to them? I am guessing not as hardly any people use this facility to do this exact job. Can somebody please advise which rules I need to set up for all sent items without attachments to go to their default sent items place, but also sent items with attachments, move to a folder that she has set up. Your help would be most appreciated. Oliver.

Just to add, I mean I want to buy some new clips - not fan.

Hello, I was installing a CPU fan in a Viglen PC (MSI Motherboard) and accidently damaged a CPU fan clip (them push down and lock ones). Does anybody know where I can buy them individually? Oliver.

We have cute PDF installed on all the machines on the network, the user uses a package which produces maps to scale! She needs to print into PDF straight from the program that she uses then add the watermark for copyright reasons. I think our only option is going to be; purchase Adobe Acrobat X Pro... unless anybody else can come up with any cheaper packages?

Hello All, We are currently looking into purchasing an Adobe Acrobat X Package for a colleague... She needs to put watermarked images on the pages without doing it in word, she used to use an older version of Adobe Acrobat but now we need to upgrade it to comply with our GovConnect rules & regs as Adobe have stopped supporting it. Can anybody answer; which version of Adobe Acrobat X does watermarking? Pro, Standard, Pro Extended? Obviously if they all do it, then we would be purchasing the Standard one... Hopefully somebody can help answer this one? Oliver.

Thanks for looking guys, I browsed the web and found the solution to it... The log on account for the service needs to be put to the option where you can input your own, in username type Local Service, and leave the password blank. Simples! Job done :-)

Can't get TCP/IP service to start, message I get is; Windows cannot start the TCP/IP NetBios Helper service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process. Can anybody advise what other services are running in the same process? It's a new build I have done for one of our users, and it's very rare I get stuck when carrying out a new build... but this is where I am at. Your help and advice would be most appreciated. Oliver.

One of the websites that I manage has encountered an issue! I use a backup package called Akeeba backup, and it always usually works fine for me - but I did a silly thing; I didn't configure the source file for all the backups to write to in the general config. Now the site has tried to run it's routine backup; and failed... now the screen shot shows all I can see. http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh509/Ollie_Alcock/joomlaakeeba.png I can change the settings to the correct ones, but no Save button. What can I do to resolve this?

What part of securus did you find was the issue? I am thinking it maybe the access control on Kaspersky?
-
What's the secrus client?

Does anybody use the above on their network for antivirus? If yes, any issues recently with Windows XP having serious errors such as not shutting down correctly, or drivers going walkies?
-
No it's a piece of software called logiparc

Hello, We had a very old Windows 95 PC which acted as a stand alone machine for a database. It hasn't been used for many years for obvious reasons, but what the end user has asked me to look into is virtualising the PC so that they can operate the old Windows 95 pc how it was, but in a virtual PC window. I have done this sort of thing before, but this time it's a bit different as all I have is the hard drive. Any ideas as to what I can do? Oliver.

Cheers for that! I have had a look in the bios but can't find any relevant tabs - any clues as to what I should be looking for? Oliver.

Help! Need to get this working in HP DC 5750 machine - does anybody know if the PCI is disabled by default in the bios? I can't find any settings that are relevant in BIOS. The card isn't picked up by the hardware manager, we have sent the card back and had it replaced so we know it's not that. The internal VGA card works but we need this new card to enable dual screen as we all use dual screens in the office but at the moment one person can't use her dual screen set up at the moment hence us trying to get this working. Thanks.

Hello, Is anybody using the new version of Kaspersky which is called "EndPoint 8"? We have had lots of issues with it and just wondered if anybody can relate to this? Oliver
