Hello, A piece of software that we use only works on IE versions below IE9. We have just upgraded the user to Windows 7 not realising this, is there anyway we can use IE 7 or IE 8 on Win7? Ol.

Nope, I used to work in schools hence I use EduGeek, but I actually now work for the council direct hence we don't use anything educational related.

Hello, Thank you for getting back to me with your suggestions. I have tried even using a USB external sound card on a totally seperate driver. I have even tried using this whilst the onboard card driver is uninstalled. This still doesn't work, it's like as if something is blocking any sound being created by the PC. I have tried removing the anti virus as this has a device control functionality on it and this still doesn't work. I am sure it's since we had the recent patches rolled out for Windows that the problem has been caused. Unfortunatley our GP configuration doesn't allow System Restore as this could have been a good option. According to the software, the sound is all working fine! The PC isn't aware there is a fault, when headphones or speakers are plugged in; it pops up on the screen saying headphones plugged in or speakers plugged in. Unless my ears aren't working, no sound can be heard.

Hello Fellow EduGeekers, Little issue! Please can somebody shed some light on this for us? Viglen Windows 7 i5 PC with 8GB Ram, sound works when you rebuild the software on the system, once it retrieves it's Windows updates - the sound stops working????!!! No sound what so ever, not even any system beeps. I have tried reinstalling the driver, carrying out a system restore etc, but nothing will bring the sound back until I rebuild the machine. I have sent the PC off to Viglen, they sent it back saying that they didn't report a problem. The machine has a MSI motherboard, and I have the actual MSI driver CD for the motherboard as an engineer visited from Viglen initially to replace the motherboard as we thought this was the problem and he left the CD for the board. This is beginning to wind up now...... please please help somebody?

Hello, One of our users switched on his PC this morning, and got the following message; Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \Windows\System32\Config\System You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. I have tried several copies of Windows XP (The PC is running XP by the way), but unfortunatley the usual way I would repair the O/S isn't showing as an option when it lists the found Operating Systems. I can get into recovery console though! I have never had to use this, what would I type in the recovery console to restore the missing files? I know it sounds quite a basic task, but I have never had to do it, never learnt or discussed it or anything like that before with recovery console. Please help someone? Oliver.

Hello, We have a Windows 7 PC with 64 Bit Windows, and it's a Viglen - I can't get any sound from the unit whether I use the motherboard sound card or an external USB one. Has anybody seen this? I think it maybe a piece of software I am installing that is causing the problem but I can't get to the bottom of it. It is the same on more than this particular Viglen. I have tried starting and stopping Windows Audio Services, something is stopping any sound being herd even though the PC thinks its working fine, it recognises headphones are being plugged in etc. Ollie.

No, it's printing direct to the IP Address. We have two XP machines next to each other, one works fine with this printer and one doesn't.

Network connection to the printer is rock solid. I am really hitting a brick wall with this now!

Hello, Our print room leases a Sharp Photocopier. There are two machines in there for the two print room staff, one of the machine works fine printing to the copier, the other person's printer keeps saying 'printer offline'. The driver is the same, the ip address is correct, everything is the same - just one works and the other works for about 10 prints - then says 'offline'. I have powered the copier off half a dozen times, and I have stoped and started print spooler. Other printer options are working fine. Does anybody have any suggestions on what could be causing this? This particular machine is running on Windows XP :-( Ollie.

It is just throwing paper out constantly now and providing a beautiful array of flashing lights! I think it's time for the tub for this printer! New Printer required.

Thank you for your reply Netman! I will have a read through the info - but I have realised that it's actually a HP Officejet 6000, not an 8000. Does this change anything?

One of our OfficeJet 8000 printers has stopped printing black, it just prints colour! I have carried out all the printing services options such as print head cleans, alignment, and have even physically cleaned the print head and cartridge cradle (I call it this, I know there is a correct name for it but I can't think what that name is.) Anybody seen this with HP Printers? I don't think HP Printers are what they used to be......... Oliver.

Hello, Does anybody have a Konica Minolta 3730DN? We are constantly having to replace the consumables and especially the waste toner unit. What are your opinions on how cost effective the purchase were if you do have one? Oliver.

The model I am looking at currently has an MSI-H61m(G35) Motherboard with an i5. I have checked on the MSI website, and this shows that the hardware is compatable with Win 7 32. There is one driver available which covers both 32/64 bits. When I plug a headset or some speakers in, the sound configuration pops up and is clever enough to know what I have plugged in - but nothing can be heard. Even the "dunk, dunk, dunk noise" when you press the slider(mover) for the volume control.

Hello all, We have recently recieved delivery of four Viglen PCs. (Yes! Amsterad Alan Sugar PCs). 2 Models are a small form factor i5, and 2 Models are a higher spec full size CPU i5. Three of them have come with more memory than 32 bit can use, on the other hand for some unknown but strange reason one of them has come with 64 bit and all 8GB usable. On delivery, the sound didn't work on the three 32 bit PCs, but works fine on the 64 bit PC. All they keep doing is sending engineers out with replacement parts. Can anybody shed some light on this, and let me know if it could be related to the 32/64 bit differences? Can anybody relate to similar experiences with Viglen? Thanks, Oliver.

What is the official name for the cables that connect your front panel buttons and LEDs to the motherboard? eg. you have PWR LED, HDD LED, PWR, PWR RESET etc.

I believe you haven't calculated that correctly... I bought a 2009 one for my other half to learn to drive in costing £99 a month, with the outright price being £5000. In a 107 currently with the fuel prices, on a 1.0 engine you're getting 100 miles for £11 exactly, whereas on an old 1.0 corsa that I used to have it cost £18 exactly (working it out with todays fuel prices). So monthly saving of £28 to start with meaning monthly cost of £71. Then a saving from £120 a year road tax to £20 a year, so £100 saving meaning monthly cost of £64. If I were to insure the 107 over the old corsa I would save £300 a year on insurance so 300 / 12 = 25 so 64 - 25 = £39 a month. So for £39 a month we have a nice newish reliable low mileage car.

Owning a house and spending money on your house is more cost effective than a new car! I drive a newish car but nothing Ferrari like, just gets me from A to B, but I know that I should have bought an older one and spent less money (mistake I made), but sometimes an old car is false economy especially when garages are offering such low finance rates. You can get a Peugeot 107 now for £99 a month, but does 65mpg and £20 a year road tax, and group 1 insurance - so I would say the £99 a month outgoing would still be cheaper than the running costs of an older car.

Hello all, One of our users is still using Microsoft Office 2000 (she prefers it). She all of a sudden experienced an issue when opening office, it just hung there with a white screen and not responding for around 2/3 minutes and then the usual message popped up saying not responding, end now etc. I have removed office, but when I come to install it again - I get the following error; The only option that will continue is the ignore option. Once I click on this, I get this error message; Once I click ignore on this, exactly the same errors appear in the exact same format for Excel. I have gone into OBDC Data Sources from control panel, and can see there are inputs for excel and databases. I can't remove these as it says Anybody got any clues about this?
