[website] How much does the Daily Mail hate you?
gwendes replied to Dos_Box's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Marcus Brigstocke claims to read the Daily Mail once a week just so he's angry enough to write comedy. I am hated by the Daily Mail according to this website and Peter Hitchens once declared by 'Unpleasant', I wear that title proudly coming from him. -

Just bought a three year old ThinkPad, stuck an SSD in it and it absolutely flies. Same as smart phones - new tech has caught up with everything we can throw at it for most day to day use.

Nice one, thanks muchly.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread - do you remember how you created the silent installer?

Manually setting default values corrects the problem, just need a way to ensure that GP is actually making the change that I've instructed it to!
-
I accidently set the Security Zones to the default values in Group Policy preferences when I was changing another setting. Didn't noticed the problem on test bed. This morning this manifested as 'High' for the Internet Zone but after changing it to a lower value (all the users were seeing a lot of security warnings and pages were not loading correctly) now it will not apply anything but a 'Custom' security level even though the policy is applying correctly. Forced gpupdate. Tried removing the GPO completely, recreating with the correct settings - nothing seems to actually apply. Any ideas?

LOL! You know when you accidently dig up an old thread because you're searching for something important? Yeah, I did that. Poor @mattx

Any idea how appropriate Dragon is for primary?
-
Almost a 'Behind the Red Door'! I've just been asked by one of my primary schools to install a home edition of Dragon Simply Speaking that one of the parents kindly offered... Has anyone got any suggestions for software for use with dyslexic 5-11 year olds? Are there any decent open source projects I could look at?

I've scoured the net and can't find a solution anywhere... Wish that policy worked!

When users click Start > Shutdown the default option in the drop-down menu is 'Restart' so suite is turned off and proceeds to turn itself back on! Have applied the policy: User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Change Start Menu Power Button but it has zero affect. Staff and students, staff are on roaming and kids are mandatory. Admin account is fine. Going mad trying to find the solution! Little help?

I recommend busuu.com. Combine that with moving to France and you're sorted. My friend was fluent in 6 months

I found the first few posts quite harsh. Learning about IT isn't done in school or college - it's a passion for learning and an environment where you can. It's a tough job market - my advice would be to be completely honest at interview and tell them that you don't know things but you will learn - then listen. Listen, make notes and practice. Set up a domain at home if you can - virtualise the whole thing... I found it hard to get a job after seven years in IT (5 as a tech/senior tech with excellent refs) - be honest and expect training wages. You don't know how much you don't know. Most of all, GOOD LUCK!

Was made redundant from my last school in July. Two techs were actually and left a poor NM on his own and I'm now working in Richmond with ten primary schools all to myself :) Glad to be home!

How far do you travel to work, how long does it take?
gwendes replied to jonny_2010's topic in Educational IT Jobs
3 minute walk. I'm a little more extreme than mats and it takes about 45 seconds to cycle (by the time she's safely locked away!) About 350 metres looking at Google Maps... -
Love it. You can watch motorist after motorist fail to obey the highway code too!
