This one is odd... All GPO's are being applied and the store has been disabled and AppLocker is set to deny and the service is running...... User can still access the store...... Doing my head in!

Congrats. My advice now would be to strike up a good working relationship with the network manager. If your unsure on anything it's not a weakness just ask. They may or may not know the answer but the key is your network manager will grow to know your strengths and weaknesses and feel confident in knowing your not going to go off on a whim and make system wide changes without it being thought about. Trust is the key to independence!

If the build quality is as bad as the surge and the chargehr then I wouldn't bother. It was shocking. Liked the Fitbit app and things but the fact it split and fell apart moved me to an Apple Watch

Yes it varies. Our existing MAT has 2 secondaries and 4 primaries. If the suggested merger takes place in September it will be 6 secondaries and 11 primaries. In our current MAT we have centralised IT, Finance etc etc. We are yet to find out what will happen if/when all 3 MATS merge as one.

Go for whatever flicks your switch. If you like networking more than I'd say go for it. Nothing worse than studying for something that bores you after the first 20 minutes. I've done it a few times and I was glad to finally pass the exam and do away with it!

Just make sure you have full control of firewalls for each site. I had a nightmare with SWGFL getting them to open up the schools to talk to each other!

MS certs are a good start. Take a cert in the technology you use regularly or have most exposure too. It will make the study easier if you do most things day in day out. After that branch out a little for some certs that you may not use everyday. Some certs are craved after for some jobs SCCM, SCVMM for example. As others have said Cisco is a good route also and although it's a Cisco cert many of the commands are transferable to other brands or at least give you the understanding or idea of what you want to achieve.

Existing MATS merging with other MATS to create bigger MATS will be a big thing. With that goes projects/planning and collaborating on future IT projects on a bigger scale.

I had a Fitbit surge. It was ok but in less than 6 months of everyday wear it had split in the band and a split on the back where the bank connects to the watch. All in all it was ok but the build quality is/was shocking. Got the other half a Charge HR at the same time and low and behold the same has happened to hers. We both bought Apple watches late last year and they have been brilliant. I should have just got one before getting the Fitbits but you live and learn I suppose. I would deffo recommend the Apple Watch but it is a bit pricy for what it is and it's not everyone's cup of tea. Like you I have the iPhone 6 and the integration is fantastic. Apple Pay is easy and fantastic, use it all the time.

The "Cloud" has been a horrible term for many years. Everyone just says oh "The Cloud" however we have been doing it for years in a basic form. Web Hosting is a prime example. Some choose to externally host but it still needs to be maintained. I used to be very sceptical of "The Cloud" (I despise the term) but actually its all seeming to make a little sense. Azure will be a big thing for us this year and probably the coming years. We are a Multi Academy Trust now thats only going to get bigger. For us placing some infrastructure in Azure is how we will probably scale it out. IMO someone still needs to be able to manage Azure from within our organisation. 1st/2nd line techs will still be needed to deal with people walking through the door on a minute/hour/daily basis. Someone will still be needed to sorted out how Azure is configured and what services are used etc etc. We are using Azure AD currently. Not in any great big way but its still in use with our O365 tenants. It still needs to be tweaked and looked after. I suppose my point is that "The Cloud" term has been banded around so loosely for so long many in the IT industry fear it without actually fully knowing or wanting to know its benefits/negatives. I'm personally on the line currently. As I say its been mentioned in our place and it'll be me that it will come to for implementation....... For the moment I think I shall just embrace it and see what happens.

Depends on where you work really. In my previous school I was Senior Tech and did server work as well as desktop as well as 1st/2nd line stuff. If the Manager was away I kept it all ticking over. It was a small team and only one school. In my current Senior Tech role I rarely do 1st/2nd line or desktop work. We are 6 schools in a MAT so i spend 99% of my time doing all server work. I also step up as Network Manager when he is on leave. I'm left to get on with my work myself and manage my work and time with little involvement from the Network Manager. It's mainly a different trust level and technical ability that makes my senior role different to that of our 1st/2nd line guys. They also focus on escalating the bigger issues so they are free'd back up to deal with 1st/2nd line work.
