It's a complete oversight on Microsoft's part.

So we have just built a clean image of Windows 10 Education (November update) downloaded from VLSC. What the hell have they done to it? xbox apps, sway, office, onenote and CANDYCRUSH SAGA! It wont sysprep for some reason to do with the candycrush app. Does anyone have a definitive way of removing all these horrible apps for all current and future users? This is ridiculous. Failing that we are going to go down the LTSB route.

Not really nowadays. It's used to be awful in XP. However since 7 it's been ok. At most I have only had to delete the local database and re-sync and it creates itself again.

I just mean it depends on your schools policy for remote access. If enabled your users would have what was available onsite at home. What if for example staff member has VPN connected, happily working away until door bell goes, they go answer it, someone else in the house sees everything displayed on laptop. Say it's a SEN action plan or statement or something sensitive? They forward it via email or something to someone else? That's just an example. The same could happen whilst onsite but the likelihood is the teacher will be doing such things in an office or staff room etc etc. What would happen if VPN was connected and user was on a train and laptop gets stolen? For a brief moment the thief has access to exactly what the user has access too. Albeit they may not realise what they have but the hole is still open. Again it's up to the school really about what's acceptable to be accessed offsite.

If no access to network from anywhere offsite then Offline Files is an option. Any files created/deleted or amended whilst the laptop is off the network will get updated when the user connects back. Used to be a pain in the **** before but been ok since Win7. All can be configured via Group Policy. If allowing end users connection to the network offsite is an option as stated you can use Direct Access with Win 2012 or VPN. It depends on your security requirements if you roll that out to staff or not. We have it setup for a select few in the IT team for when we are at different sites but I don't envisage allowing teachers always connected access.

Exactly my view, that's the only reason I have done them, I didn't need to certify in all the ones I have. Maybe they will come in useful if I was ever to move into a business environment again? Who knows? It's just my the satisfaction for me that I can backup years of real world experience with an array of technologies, SCCM, hyper-v & VMM and server 12 etc etc

The two go hand in hand in my opinion. All of my roles have been based on years of experience, however I'm one exam away from getting an MCSA Server Infrastructure. Nobody has forced me to get certified, nor am I looking for another role which requires them. It's a personal thing. I have learnt a lot from the certification paths using technologies I see everyday but hardly ever dabble in. What does get my back up though is companies that offer MCSA/MCSE courses and then Jo Bloggs who has no real world experience does all the exams and gets the cert. I think that is wrong. However luckily most companies have wised up and see now Jo Bloggs has the correct technical certs but hasn't never touched a production server in his career!

Must be something in the air, we had a call this morning asking them same. No point using the IT, to many chances for teachers not to get the message. Advised to get the alarm company to look at changing the bells

Well, I have just done the 74-409 - Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center and passed it. Took advantage of doing the exam at home and I'm impressed! You have to jump through a few hoops and show them what feels like the world but once that's out the way you can just crack on. I found it somewhat relaxing being about to do it in my environment. I highly recommend it. Ok you cannot take any notes and you are not allowed to read the questions aloud but it was ok! I have the 70-411 left to do for MCSA and I won't be doing at a test centre!

What does the iLo say? Have a look at the logs in the HP System Management app. Any hardware issues will show also

No no, to get education discount on MS exams as a staff member I changed my occupation to student (to get the verification steps) and scanned in my p60 and sent as proof that I work in education. It took about a day but my profile is now set to Educational and discount automatically gets applied whenever I book an exam or browse the MS Store.

If your account is registered already just change your occupation to student in the profile. That's when you are asked to provide docs

I signed up not long ago for educational discount on exams, just had to use the verification methods after registering, I think I scanned in a copy of my p60. My account is now an listed as a student with academic discount

I feel your pain. Log a support request in the Admin Centre. MS have been fantastic with getting ours sorted. They aim to call you within 2hrs of you looking an "identity" support request. They failed in and talked me through it and showed me what when wrong and how to fix it!

Microsoft Support is what you need! Top Notch!! Log a support request through the admin portal. I had a similar issue the other day and I re-opened an an existing request. They called me and resolved it and showed me how to do it. When he asked me if i would give feedback i said i was impressed with the time in which they called back and he told me "Identity" issues would get initial contact back from them within 2 hrs of the request being logged. Get a called logged..............

Finally got around to setting up Azure AD Sync with Office365 from local AD. Does anyone have a definitive answer on how long it takes to sync a password change? I.E when a user changes their AD password locally the time it takes for office365 to update with new password? I cannot seem to find an answer. I know with DIRSYNC there was a separate password sync script but not with Azure AD Sync
