  1. Hi all, I have read over most of the VLAN forum posts i can find but im still in the dark. Our Lan currently is a "flat LAN" over 500 client devices and 30+ Servers. Obviously we are struggling with network bandwidth issues. We have 100MB or 1000MB fibre links (media converters both ends) to most of our locations on site. Our topology is something like this 48 port 3com switch Into that goes, Servers, Router, all CAt5 from fibre media Converters also a 2GB trunk to another switch hosting less mission critical servers. We have 3 IP ranges on the same subnet provided by SWGFL also and they are used in our DHCP scope currently, our router (cisco) provided by them is our gateway on our DHCP Scope. Network congestion seems to be a big issue at the moment and im thinking VLAN could help with this issue? Any advise would be fantastic as we currently have our server room in bits for cable management! Thanks
  2. I noticed this when i deployed a previously captured image. I found the options in the Task Sequence for the task i use to Deploy a previously captured image. It is located under the Apply Operating System task Just out of interest i also found by default the task will do a full drive format, i changed the setting to only a quick format and changed the volume name from Default also Not sure how relevant this is now but hope it helps Thanks

  8. Are you using AVG Admin Console or are they unmanaged installs? We use AVG 9 at the moment, created a scripted install from the AVG Admin console and then set it up to install by SCCM. I am pretty sure you can create a script to uninstall too its just a switch. You can then deploy it by login script or group policy or whatever. The Admin Console will also allow you to upgrade all clients connected to Version 9 from 8.5. Hope this helps Darren
  9. We are using Windows Bitlocker now on all laptops. It works great. We purchased a load of USB keys and customised them with the school logo etc etc and now all the laptops have been rebuilt and encrypted. The member of staff just simply inserts the USB key on boot and then removes it and the laptop boots. We had to change the local group policy to allow bitlocker to use a USB key rather than look for a TPM chip each time but if a laptop has TPM obviously we use that. You can only use Bitlocker on Windows Vista Enterprise/Ultimate and Windows 7 Enterprise/Ultimate. We have a large Microsoft Schools Agreement so we could have Enterprise Editions. Hope this helps Darren
  10. Hi Steve, Just the general jist of the architecture, user permissions modifying the look etc etc. I didnt really help that i didnt have a lot of time to get the site up and running so didnt really have a chance to sit down and read about it. E107 however was easy, straight from the install it was easy to understand how everything worked. Darren

    Exchange 2010

Personally no i would just use 2008 standard/enterprise depending if i wanted to put any roles also on that server that required r2 feature eg R2 Print management services. I would use R2 for domain controllers to upgrade to the 2008 R2 AD Schema and then possibly other servers that may also need the services of R2. Hope this helps Darren

    Exchange 2010

We are investigating this upgrade at the moment. I've used it in a test environment and it seems to work well. Just in the stages or testing co-existence with Exchange 2003. The new OWA does seem feature rich, however I am yet to find anyone who "really" likes it! Darren
  13. How did you get on with this project? I tried to use Joomla for a private project and found it to be a complete nightmare, ended up using E107 CMS in the end. Darren
