I am in the middle of setting up Snipe-IT for use here to track our Chromebooks and have hit a brick wall with LDAP and SAML. With LDAP, I've got it all set up as it should be, and sync works fine. However, user validation consistently fails and LDAP users cannot log in. With SAML, I've set it up to use Google as the IdP, but when you try and use it either by clicking the app icon in the Google Waffle, or by using the Login via SAML link on the Snipe-IT login form, I always get "There was a problem while trying to log you in, please try again." Does anyone have one or both of these working?

Do you have details of the agreement there? I had a look and couldn't find an MIS framework on their site.

Well, theoretically, we'd have until April 1st to go to tender, analyse the bids, choose someone, implement/migrate and train everyone. It's a heck of a compressed timetable but I've seen worse.

Had a chat with our account manager earlier. Now its all been referred up to my boss and to check with our solicitors to find out where we stand. Looking more and more like we're going to be forced to go to tender.

What about Trusts that use a single domain across all their schools?

We give them Wifi access if they ask for it and that's it. They shouldn't be accessing information on your network directly (ie. having a login to get data). They should be requesting this from school staff.

Just realised, it doesn't have a touchscreen. Which puts it below the equivalently priced Chromebooks. Costs about £200 for a touchscreen 2 in 1 Chromebook.

This isn't a thing in Google Workspace and I think it is an ideological thing - security should apply all the time, and they also believe everyone should have a personal device. So, end result is no conditional access.

Virtual Processors don't directly map to the physical hardware, so the request is basically not possible. Assigning 4 vCPUs to a VM is saying "the VM can make use of 4 cores". That's all, Windows just presents it as 4 CPUs in its system, as that's how they are presented - but there's no difference practically between 4 vCPUs and 1 CPU with 4 cores. As far as I know Hyper-V doesn't allow you to specify cores directly, though VMWare does I think.

You can't swap models I'm afraid - licenses are for the specific make/model of device and when you swap them out you can only swap in a device of the same type. We had an issue with a faulty device needing replacing by the DfE, and we had to send a begging email to Google to allow us to swap make/model for that license - and they said they don't ordinarily allow it.

We send ours for recycling tbh. You're talking about devices that are 10 years old really, so I would say its more hassle than its worth to keep them going.

You have to contact them - it doesn't look like there's a way to do it in the renewals portal.

I emailed their annual entitlements email address, and got a fairly prompt reply stating... I have to use their renewals portal and tick the "I want to discuss the renewal" box, and put my issues in there. Completely unintuitive. And unhelpful for a MAT with a bunch of schools.

That is incredibly poor. We don't want to sign up to a 3 year commitment. Doing so would require us to go to full tender due to the value of the contract.

Not so easy when your domain is spread across 8 sites though? Plus, there's the issue of licensing, and the issue still of Azure Ad.

Its for schools and colleges only I'm afraid. There's something on their how to join page about if you provide education services you could ask them if you are eligible though.

We had a terrible experience with a previous company for one of the schools that joined our MAT. They illegally changed the pricing during the contract, and the school didn't realise. They charged for scanning. And their managing directory was incredibly rude. So, yeah, there's about 0% chance I'd buy from anywhere but a framework deal these days.

New OS, new features and therefore new bugs. I've had several black screen of deaths on my 2 Windows 11 PCs so far. Far more than I ever got with Windows 10. And they are a Ryzen 3800X and a 10th Gen i5.
