    Arrg eMacs!

Thanks hehe, can't stand seeing stuff that's fixable being chucked out.

    Arrg eMacs!

Wow, triple post... sorry. Just thought I'd post an update.... with a lot of help and hammering with a needle (not the best idea probably) we got through the clogged up hole and I present to you.... Le eMac! http://olliez0r.com/skitch/emaaac-20090928-223516.jpg Playing a DVD. It'd die after a few seconds of a DVD before... bad caps were related to the video output. Yay!

    Arrg eMacs!

Helped out with community fair today so I managed to borrow performing arts' solder sucker... still not much luck though.

    Arrg eMacs!

Will borrow a sucker from school on monday. And i just left it off for a few weeks while plugged in but with no power to the plug so it's earthed beforehand. Should've been enough time for any residual charge to drain... still wouldn't liek to fiddle with the CRT though, lol.

    Arrg eMacs!

If it was any less powerful then I'd probably not bother but they're not too bad... by G4 specs anyway. 1.25ghz, 1gb, 80gb, superdrive... I can find a use for a Mac of that spec.
  6. Micro rant+lack of soldering ability.... Thought I'd finally move onto repairing the second of my eMacs. Knew the problem was capacitor related and had replacement capacitors for a while... Open it up to find: http://olliez0r.com/skitch/emac1-20090926-001501.jpg http://olliez0r.com/skitch/emac2-20090926-001647.jpg 4 hours later, 8 out of 9 replaced and two burnt fingertips. Can't get the last one in... leg snapped off the old one in the hole and there isn't enough to grip it at the bottom and I can't push it from the top. Plus I have no solder sucker... argh. If this doesn't work when I finally get that capacitor back in and the entire thing back together then sparks will fly (from me, not the eMac). xD Anyone else tried this kind of repair with one of these before or am I as mad as I look?
  7. Wow, impressive stuff!
  8. I can also imagine that 06 will be better on the iBook's screen, 08's interface seems cramped on my 13" macbook.
  9. Nah, as you said and it says in the specs, a G5 or intel processor. Our G4 powerbooks and my own run iLife 06 I think.
  10. Maybe I posted it earlier hehe.
  11. For a small wind up we once stuck a huuge rasturbation of one of the other techs in the lockable board outside the office. Won't post the picture but it was amusing, it only just fit in the display board as well.
  12. Why doesn't our IT services have a display board! Us techs have a south park character in the IT/business department staff board but that's it. IT stuff was mint at our open evening just been, computer dissection to compete with biology's heart/lung dissections. Plus one of the macbooks doing stopmotion and a wii of course. I was the only IT support about as everyone else was doing car parking... I was also doing the radio station (we always stream to the tannoy system on open evening). Was made slightly more exciting by the dying of our network music drive and the fact that somebody had borrowed the USB backup drive. =P
  13. I'm tempted to whack the procurve network manager on the stats screen at some point. It should also be pointed out that there's a freeview box in the office but we're in need of a long aerial cable as the aerial socket's on the other side of the room... had to use the thickest BNC cable in the country to run from the box to the screen.

    Piper Cub - FSX

I've barely touched FS X recently but used to lots... looks good. QFE!
  15. What version of windows is this? If it's Vista or 7 then go to playback devices, right click and show disabled and disconnected devices... jack sensing in Vista is irritating.
  16. My, spiceworks does sound quite good. We're using Kayako support suite which is really feature rich, we definately aren't using it to its full potential but it does a really good job for us atm. Got this running this week as well. http://olliez0r.com/skitch/screen2-20090922-183258.jpg Uses an add-on and shows the ticket ID, creator, technician, status and last activity. Pretty hand for us in the office.

    District 9

Awesome film, saw it the other week and loved it... do rather think he sounds a bit scouse when he swears though.
  18. We have through the school radio (which i lead) in the past but slightly negative feedback was received from staff.... stuff like it created the wrong atmosphere for the time of the day lol. I'm looking to get some speakers in our large sheltered atrium area atm.
  19. I've passed the details for the test accounts onto a few IT teachers and I'm going to go through it with a few others. Also a number of teachers went to the meeting RM gave on Kaleidos a few weeks ago. I do think we're going to struggle to fully use it, the amount of stuff in it requires a lot of commitment from staff from the looks of it and I fully understand how busy teachers are already. I think we'll at least get the IT staff using it properly first.
  20. You tried Add remove programs > windows components > games? It's a bit addictive!
  21. I've been looking at Kaleidos today... looks like it could be good if used properly. So many bits and bobs really need full staff/student participation for it to work properly.... that'll be the hardest part. :/ I'm looking at it fairly positively atm though, we have a web/VLE co-ordinator so I'm sure it'll be dealt with properly if we get it.

    NEW RM One Pc's

Our new sixth form laptops have webcams and we've disabled them in the bios, can't imagine any practical use of the webcams up in sixth form, they're just there for students to do work in frees and suchlike. Can always enable again if a use is ever found.... if only there was GPO controlled BIOS's. Errm, it looks a bit fugly if you ask me. At least this one doesn't have the monitor buttons that oh so easily get pushed too far and broken like ours.
  23. We use a few of the Smart-E point to point and point to multipoint boxes to run displays/projectors in the canteen and hall from a oneLAN box/performing arts computer. Had no problems with them and really use to use... Manufacturers of Video Switches, Routers and Extenders.
  24. I'm just seeing hotlinking protection image. Whatever the pictures are I'm sure they're amusing, I love that site.
  25. I had hell trying to get decent freeview signal in my room so after discovering sky gave us a quad LNB with Sky+ I got a Freesat box for my room and a Freesat HD box for the lounge (on offer argos, was £49 for the SD box and £60 for the HD box methinks). Never had a problem with it, amount of channels is unexciting atm but it's bound to grow. Considering that includes the dish I'd say go for it. =)
