  1. I think you'll have more issues than it's worth. The speed would be ridiculous, and probably not useable.
  2. Sounds like a registry issue. It's a known issue and isn't likely to be rectified. See below: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.outlook.general&tid=dd3edbd1-7d75-45d3-bd53-18f15051638d&p=1
  3. Cheers, I'll keep a close eye on these!
  4. I'd be interested in knowing the mailing lists and websites you use? Would definitely help in tracking any likely issues!

    IE7

Indeed, Microsoft all over isn't it?
  6. Yes, definitely deny access to all printers they don't require. However, as 'contink' quite rightly stated, why publish the printer to workstation in the first place?
  7. Very true, but that doesn't keep the network very tidy! It's pointless giving the system unnecessary work.
  8. I presume you're running printer scripts to map and default your printers? Modify this to map only the required printers. We map dependent upon where the machine is situated in AD. So the machine she is using can have specific printers mapped.
  9. Indeed, a very sensible way of doing it.
  10. hehe, hopefully you will be 'OK' then! I do wish I had left the updates until the holiday though. I do like that idea suggested above. I think it's something I may implement here!
  11. RIS, VPN and SharePoint issues... everything else seems to be running smoothly! :S
  12. I'm certain you're going to discover some SP2 problems! I did!
  13. Well initially you're looking for something like Intel where you can use the 'PreConnect' options. Sadly I can't be more specific about retail models.
  14. In fact, I think I might side with you on that one. VPN is good, but I suppose just for a single directory, it would make sense to go with WebDAV. I've found in the past however, once you give them access to one thing. They generally want access to the lot!
  15. I don't see anything wrong with that, just do ensure you have your back covered. Don't go shooting yourself in the foot by not adding in disclaimers that would have increased your work load if they weren’t included, or as you say, impossible to complete. EDIT: if that makes any sense at all... basically ensure you include disclaimers that will ensure your workload isn't increased!
  16. I would go with a VPN connection, much better than FTP. Other than that RDP isn't such a bad option, however, you're going to need to setup a machine on the network to deal the requests. A terminal server would be ideal for a lot of users, but this can be costly also. Either way you're going to require speaking to your ISP, as after all, their firewall will decide if you're aloud in or not! RDP ports are also sometimes denied by some ISP’s, or at least the LEA.
  17. These people are really good; we've been using them for replacement keyboards for the D520. http://www.oliis.it/ Here are two contact addresses for two employees: Mandy Brereton - [email protected] Nathan Greenaway - [email protected]
  18. Yes that would work Andie
  19. We also let them download and then install them when needed. However, I did complete some updates the other day, had issues with RIS and VPN afterwards!!!
  20. Ok, so go with the suggestion above. Then you just need to create an account in AD called 'moderators' for example, and give that domain user read access to the newly created site. Hope that helps!

We're currently still on IE6, I'm aware of an issue with OWA. Here is the patch you need to install on the MAIL and OWA server. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829 Hope that helps!
  22. On the topic of Java, how are you deploying it? We're currently deploying via GPO/MSI. However, after the last update we found that Internet Explorer kept crashing, are you experiencing similar problems?
  23. I'm thinking about different ways of doing it. I have come across ManageEngine - ADManager Plus, anybody know how good it is?
