  1. I have a script that will do exactly what you want. It's our current setup. You will need to modify it for your domain, your OU's and so forth. See the script attached your need to download and rename the extension to .vbs. Good luck! printerconnect.txt
  2. I have seen similar issues in the past; previously it has been the synchronisation that has caused this. Don't ask me why!?! Try going to Tools > Folder Options > Offline Files > then by holding down 'Shift', 'Control' and selecting 'Delete Files'. This then resets the cache and sorted the issue. Let me know if this works for you.

    Folder redirection

Even when redirecting, the 'All Users' folder still impacts on the AD user. I would consider using a batch file to hide the 'All Users' folder on your machines. Then, unless the users have 'Show Hidden Files' enabled, they won't be visible. However, we find it useful to use the 'All Users' desktop to link to local applications on a per machine basis. Or, as used above, to specifically link to drives independent to what the computer is used for. Hope that helps.
  4. I also push an image out, then using Windows Repair Console on the XP CD to correct driver issues and so forth. That’s proven to work well over time.
  5. After a little research, it may be worth trying the below options. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296969 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;318378 http://www.oemailrecovery.com/restore-outlook-express.html Hope that helps!
  6. We're thinking of printing the username and password on the welcome pack. Anybody found this isn't working for you?
  7. Morning everyone, I am having a lovely issue creating my new Year 7 users. I'm using AD Infinitum 2 which is brilliant for creating bulk users, it allows for random passwords, Exchange Mailbox creation and Home Folder creation with defined permissions. However, I have an issue whereby the permissions aren’t set on the Home Folders it creates. I have read their FAQ to find: “Why is AD Infinitum sometimes unable to set the permissions on home folders for new users? If your domain has two or more domain controllers then AD Infinitum may not be able to set the new user's permissions on their home folder immediately. This is because it takes time for the new account information to be replicated among all of the domain controllers. If a domain controller is queried before it knows about a new account then the attempt to set permissions will fail. This situation can occur even when creating users manually. To work around this situation AD Infinitum displays a window briefly explaining what has happened and offering options regarding how often it should retry setting permissions. If left to run then AD Infinitum will set the permissions once the account information has been replicated.” Which is fair enough, but after leaving the program to run over night, it still hasn't set the permissions. It does however create the very first user of the imported file totally correctly, mailbox, home directory and permissions. This fails from the second user of the CSV file. We do have two domain controllers, but I can confirm the replication has taken place overnight. (if not fairly immediately yesterday) I have looked around the net to no avail. Any advice/tips will be greatly appreciated!
  8. To be honest, I would agree also. However, due to budget in the Teaching ICT department, the free version from Microsoft was favoured. I'm still pushing for Deep Freeze though! Cheers...
  9. I implemented this into a test environment a long while back, wasn't too bad... but as stated, the repartitioning was a nightmare. I did however find a nice program to do this, without re-installing the operating system! The program is located back at home, so I'll have to update you with the program shortly. I am looking to implement this for A-Level students, so they can do what they want to the machines, and then have it return to normal! Let me also know any advice for an easy way of implementing this on a computer suite.
  10. Fair enough...
  11. I've just designed a MS Access Database before now, or Excel. Outlook Calendar has also been a favourite amongst most clients.
  12. http://www.urevised.com should be able to help! Or, as suggested above, host it internally.
  13. What command did you use? I performed a 'risetup /check' and that did the job.
  14. We're not governed by the LA anymore, only slightly, our filtering is NWT InteliGuard. It isn't bad, not too pricey, and works relatively stably. http://www.inteliguard.net/default.asp?inner=http://www.inteliguard.net/home.asp
  15. ISA isn't an OS, it's an additional package. You will require W2K3.
  16. There are several ways you can do this; we use the exchange module on the 'MySite' area. The settings used are: Exchange Folder Name: inbox/?cmd=contents Mail Server Address: Internal or External address will work. External if you can access your SharePoint from any internet connection. Remember you will need the routing already setup for external access. Mailbox: Your mailbox name, i.e. firstname.lastname Ok, so another way you can do it, which you could use for the homepage of SharePoint. That's to use a 'Page Viewer Web Part' and just enter the address to your exchange. Hope that helps!
  17. Our students have exchange accounts; they can only access this through OWA, no Outlook access. We have SharePoint so we have linked the email system into the MySite. External Email is allowed, but extensive monitoring is in place to ensure nothing inappropriate is being delivered from our domain.

    Flooding!

    I'm affraid so! hehe
  21. I believe you're correct, otherwise just run 'risetup /check' and that sorted all my issues with RIS. Good luck!
  22. I've used this for testing and so forth. May find it useful? http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/ad-manager/index.html
  23. You're correct RobFuller; this can be achieved by modifying the Registry. Follow the link to disable the ability to right-click on the desktop. http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/160

    Flooding!

I ask because on my travels up to Thatcham on Friday night, not sure that was a good idea! Thankfully I drive a motorcycle, so traffic wasn't so much of an issue! I used the road past the Kennet School, the road which looks like a river in the images above! Well, the road was clear, luckily, but getting to the house I was visiting wasn't so much of an easy task! You’ll be glad to know, after walking halfway there, I got there eventually. Ok, so back to the question ‘sidewinder’, is that outside the Kennet School in Thatcham?
