We have Microsoft SharePoint; we use it as our Learning Gateway (VLE). How do you mean E-Portfolios? If I am right in thinking, you have an html/php index page and the e-portfolio links are within a defined structure on your hard drive. I would create a site, create document libraries to store the files and using the Page Viewer Web Part display the Index page. Then ensure the links within the e-portfolio are linked to the files in the document library. Hope that helps!

It would be lovely and quite usually, if we weren’t sat on the other side of a building site!

BBC Radio 1 all the way!

Our images include as much software as possible, with MSI’s used for software required after the image was created. The WSUS server is vital I feel, this allows us to control all the updates on our network, and deny any updates we feel will conflict with our software/hardware. We have various images; they have the drivers for the appropriate hardware used on them. For example, we have a basic image, which hence the name is basic, with just software and no specific extras. Other images include Enhanced Desktops, this will have the extra Media software, and drivers for Music Keyboards and Scanners for example.

As in Microsoft SharePoint? (http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/default.mspx) We have this, you can create surveys, and we use it as our Learning Gateway (VLE). However, it's not free!

Have you contemplated using Ghost? We use GhostCast Server, does lack the Windows Update functionality, however, this could possibly be scripted to run at first logon as 'admin' etc. EDIT: or as we do it, through WSUS

A friend of mine has used this one, http://www.stellarsurvey.com/. He said it did the job!

Remote Control Users By Username
plock replied to Netwacky87's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We use NetSupport Tutor, very good piece of kit. We're in the process of rolling out Version 9. However, there are some drawbacks, this program will tell you the hostname and username of the logged on users. The implementation on the other hand is rather fun! We've had to create class lists, and using the deployment tool, we've had to push out the client configuration. The whole process is quite long winded, but very effective once in place. We began implementing it this way because of our lovely Staff controlling all machines and blanking the whole sites monitors or disabling the internet access for the whole site! Once implemented, using password protection remote control authentication and class lists the whole site is finding the program extremely useful. I would recommend NSS, but on the condition that you have the time to complete the implementation process. Hope that helps with your decision making process! -
Sorry, yeah have seen an increase speed with uploads.

I'm using: http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/ It's normally quite accurate...
-
Surely not... that's awful! I've not known that before...
-
I'm currently using Virgin, I'm on their 20MB package, and must say, I only ever see a maximum speed of 10MB!
-
Now that wouldn't be good! That's why I say "as long as it's kept tight"! The 'Domain Admin' password should be kept as secure as possible, also regular changes helps.
-
We've recently moved to a brand new site, the old site had two domains, one for curriculum and one for admin. The new site holds one domain for all, with the vast developments in security, as long as it's kept tight; there is no need for a second domain in my opinion.

Roland, I agree totally... However, we have a brand new school, with a brand new W2K3 domain, which as you can imagine, is lightening fast. Speed isn't an issue for us, our students well-being is. Sadly to say, some selection process should have been put in place to ensure YouTubes content is appropriate for ages of 12+. I understand what you're saying, but from a selfish point of view I suppose, the internet is full of inappropriate materials, which can be accessed so easily as a young person.

I'm sure that will get their attention! What ripper/downloader do you use? I have thought about giving that ago for staff. Which software would you recommend? Cheers

We have sites such as YouTube.com/Bebo.com/Myspace.com etc on our BanList. Staffs have access and use the sites for teaching materials. Headphones are stored in the classrooms and locked away in cupboards. Generally they're given out on a needs basis.

Umm... 12 vulnerabilities they've found so far!! I'm certain Vista needs a little cleaning up to be sufficient in education and business for that matter!
-
I'm not aware of this issue; I would re-format and re-install the operating system. Let me know how you get on, would like to know for future reference!

I am formally known as a A-Level student, I also work as a Network Engineer at the school. I don't feel it's a huge problem student’s accessing this site. EduGeek isn't the only site that has a wide array of information on computing in one central location. Let’s face the facts, if students want to get in, they will do whatever it takes! Most systems don't have many holes, and even if there is... I for one don't stop working until the job is done! Lets not treat all students as problems, I have a few younger students that work with me regularly to track down inappropriate websites and express their opinions in the way we run our systems. Students can help! EduGeek has also contributed to my understanding on issues, and thank everyone for their support. Not long to go until I am full-time in the industry!!

Opps... sorry I'm using Active Desktop as well! Not using IE7 either yet. Sorry can't really help as much as I thought
-
I use GPO's to restrict students from applying differnt backgrounds.
-
Ok, Is there a need for Active Desktop to be enabled then?
