  1. Hi, Quick question, mostly in the subject: Can admin users search the full text index for the whole server? Specifically I need to be able to search through all users for messages sent and find a specific message, but not having full text search currently enabled, I can't test and my googling has failed me. Currently on Exchange 2003. Cheers!

    SQL - Dates and SUM

Sorted it. Went the temporary tables route in the end: CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE temp_occ (a INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, PRIMARY KEY (a), KEY(id)) select `id`, `userid`, `datefrom`, `dateto`, `numberdays` from occasions WHERE DATE_SUB(curdate(),INTERVAL 1 YEAR) <= `datefrom`; SELECT s.fullname AS userfullname,SUM(o.numberdays) AS daystotal, o.datefrom from temp_occ o INNER JOIN tracking.staff s ON o.userid=s.id GROUP BY o.userid The temporary table creation pulls out the correct date range, then all I need to do is SUM() the dates. Thanks for the input, it helped guide me in the right direction. T

    SQL - Dates and SUM

Good questions. MySQL. It's a custom one for work, so not trying to extract from SIMS or anything. Occasions --------- id, userid, datefrom, dateto, numberdays, type, reason, note "10","1","2010-02-02","2010-02-03","1.00","selfcert","sickness","ytjfhtht" "11","1","2010-02-05","2010-02-09","5.00","selfcert","sickness","rthtrhrthtrh" "12","1","2009-11-03","2009-11-12","9.00","selfcert","sickness","theasd" "13","1","2008-12-17","2008-12-18","1.00","selfcert","sickness","2654yt5" "14","344","2010-02-17","2010-02-18","2.00","selfcert","sickness","rthrthrt" the staff table you only need to know they have fullname and id. Usig HAVING as it's a group by clause - for use with SUM(). As far as I know that's the only way it could work. Cheers, T

    SQL - Dates and SUM

Tried that to no avail (doesn't seem to work with SUM as subqueries can only return 1 row) Think I might have to try creating temp tables.

Thanks for the direction, will give that a try at least...
  7. Quick answer - email him after the next meeting with a quick summary of what you discussed, making sure the training is in there. After a short while of nothing happening, email asking about the training and when you can expect to go - maybe even find a course in a time you'd be free and suggest it. Make it as easy as possible for them to just have to say yes. If nothing happens then, maybe offer to go and chat to the director to see if there is any way you can clear things up with them. Simply, phrase it that you're helping them out, but making it clear that if they don't sort it out then you will. It's a fine line to tread, but bear in mind that it's your career that they're blocking! I've had that kind of manager for the last 4 years, and on Thurs I head off somewhere new where training is compulsory. :-)
  8. SELECT s.fullname AS userfullname,SUM(o.numberdays) AS daystotal, o.datefrom from occasions o INNER JOIN tra.staff s ON o.userid=s.id GROUP BY o.userid HAVING DATE_SUB(curdate(),INTERVAL 1 MONTH) <= `datefrom` Quick question related to the code above: I'm trying to add up the contents from a column (the SUM part) from a certain date range - in this case one month. My problem is that it does the sum calculation first, so whatever date range I put in it will add all the contents of the columns - any suggestions? T
  9. We've got around 30 colour lasers (C7521's and C420DN's) from richoh and an MFD (DSC460), have been working well for 4 years, with only minor part replacements - if we do need a technician then they've usually been onsite within 24 hours and often sooner. The MFD breaks a little bit more often, but then it does around 100k pages a year. Again, repair is quick. Would happily use them again. Can't comment on running costs as that's the bursar's job.
  10. That would be zimbabwe, uganda is very stable. That 1000 shillings will get you a cold beer or a dinner in Uganda! Interestingly, it's illegal to take shillings out of uganda.
  11. Ah ok, not sure on that as haven't used the pxe drivers for ghost, only standard drivers.

    Gah. I lost too.

  14. Talking directly about the position you pm'ed me about - don't worry about it. Attitude and ability to learn would be key, especially if you can tick some of the other boxes. Talking in general now, if you have some spare time / cash, then courses are really good to show you're willing to keep yourself up to date, but be willing to be paid a bit less to gain that vital experience - then use the experience to be paid what you're worth. I started in my current position around 8k less than what I'm on now as I didn't have the experience, but with that I've moved up quickly. Now I'm heading somewhere else, where again I'm going to be on less than I want but am being offered lots of training and experience to help me move up.
  15. I'm leaving my job as 2nd line ICT support in North Leeds. The job isn't being advertised, but if you want to know where to send a speculative CV, PM me - the IT team could do with someone, whether it be 2nd or 1st line. Useful skills - none specifically required, all would be useful. Win XP & 2003 support. Backup, antivirus SIMS web development, moodle & php break & build of laptops & desktops (dell) MS Office support MSI deployment WSUS Depending on experience & negotiating skills you could expect anywhere between 14k and 22k
  16. Thanks to both - as Gary was first I did it his way and it worked, but the second might have been useful too... Thanks, Tim
  17. Hi, I've had a look around for this but no luck so far: I want to be able to globally set that email addresses are not visible. I can do it user by user, but would prefer that pupils cannot see staff email addresses at all on moodle. Anyone got an idea? Thanks, Tim

    Old Projectors

We plan to sell ours off to teachers at some point at around £25 a pop. Most have some life left in them - maybe 50 to 100 hours, which will give some good dvd watching time (which is what I use one of them for at the mo!) Might get them to sign a sheet agreeing to weee them when they die though, from above comments. T
  19. A very good question. Not my decision and something I'm against, but hey ho. His parents were brought in, and as they were friends of a senior member of staff, the dad brought everything in - even digital cameras etc. Interesting day....
  20. Well.... After finding out that a pupil had used a teacher login (hmm) to get a list of all pupils email accounts & passwords, he was made to bring in all phones, pen drives, laptops and computers from home and have them formatted. Either that or being expelled. I don't want to consider the legality of that....
