  1. I have already taken action to save money...I have bought a bicycle. With the amount of traffic on the roads in the morning and by using routes that cars can't my journey takes about 5-10 minutes longer by bike than by car. At around £40 per week for petrol my bike will pay for itself in about 6 weeks!
  2. Thanks for the suggestions...I have fixed it! And another one that refused all logins! I found that if I disabled the network hardware in BIOS then I could login and remove the computer from our domain and then rename it. Then reboot, enable NIC and rejoin domain with new name...problem solved...

I bought my son a Pentax E35 from currys a few weeks ago for £49.99 7M pixels, SD card AA batteries with video...he used it on a trip to Germany and came back with some very good shots.
  4. Hi All, I have got a laptop here that won't let me login either locally or domain. At start up I enter username and password and press enter as usual but the login screen then just greys out and nothing happens. The computer is not locked as I can move the login dialog box around and the power button works. Safe mode lets me login but of course I can't change anything to do with the network. any idea what I can do, or is this a rebuild from scratch job? Thanks
  5. laserblazer, enjoy your day out with the proxy server, are you taking it anywhere nice? I guess the real server is busy...
  6. I have not had any errors with copy/paste but... I have had a couple of issues here with copy/paste from web pages. 1. To try to protect their images developers "hide" the real picture behind a transparent bitmap in a table cell (or DIV) that has a css background image defined as the picture in question. If users try to copy and then paste they get nothing. The only fix is to use a browser that lets you peak at the images in the page (I tink FireFox can do this). 2. If an image is copied from a web page and pasted into Word all that appears is a merge code. This can be avoided by using "Paste Special" and choosing device independant bitmap.
  7. Randle, sorry for stating the obvious...I guess I am just too used to having to that for teachers As in Teacher "I can't login to the network..." Me "what's that cable on the floor?"
  8. As far as I know/can find out this can only be done with a macro attached to the changed event of one of the other fields...
  9. Where are you trying to insert this formula?
  10. I have put a fake cctv feed on our intranet that shows a "live" scrolling image from a non-existent camera!

    Disable Touchpad

Can you disable it from the Device Manager?
  12. This happens quite often on our LEA supplied network. I think it is just a logon time problem as usually refreshing the desktop with F5 restores the icons. As you have found the shortcuts still work.
  13. Very funny...it reminds me of the sort of item done by John Bird and John Fortune...
  14. I thought about that...but... I leave for home before all the users do and I start after many people arrive and start work... Plus I might want o login to test thing before I let anyone else try it...
  15. Hi All I need to stop users logging into our Windows 2003 server for a short while while a hard drive is replaced. What is the best way to do this? I was going to change the logon hours for all the user accounts...or is their a better/quicker/smarter way?
  16. Thanks for the suggestions folks... I thought it was a rights issue but the user in question is the system manager for SIMS. After calling our SIMS support team it turned out that we needed to have a patch applied to fix this...as usual we had to ask before we found out about this patch...
  17. Hi Chris As far as I can tell the user is setup as a full system administrator... Is there any easy way to check permissions? It would be nice to find something easy to do in Sims...
  18. Have any of you guys seen a problem where an administrator is unable to add a new member of staff? The browse feature works fine but the New... option is greyed out... Any ideas?
  19. 'ere, stop messing about.... oops, showing my age there...
  20. Blue spade for me too...so I am as odd as Stewart...
  21. Have you tried turning on "Use passive FTP" in the "Remote info" settings for this site?
  22. I think I have sorted it! cookie_monster's suggestion about an LEA ntp server set me thinking (I didn't call them, I don't have that long to live) so I tried pinging ntp.xxx.gov.uk and got a response. (xxx replaced with our LEA domain name) then I used these instructions http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 that I have used before but without the correct server name it failed. this time it seems to be working as the time changed on the server!
  23. Hi All, How do you get your server to pick up the correct time? I have tried to point our server at various time servers but they are not accessible. I guess this is because we are inside our LEA firewall. I found something on the interweb that seemed to suggest pointing the server at the cache server but I can't even ping that. Where do your servers point to get the time settings?
  24. I have seen this setting but it is not for printing page backgrounds. It controls Word printing as a background task... Thanks for your replies though...I am going to try writing a vb script to intercept printing and turm off the option...
  25. Hi All I am having problems here with our little darlings using full colour backgrounds in Word documents. These are not printed by default but they have learned where to change this. Does anyone know if there is a GPO setting that will permanently disable printing of backgounds?
