  1. Dear All, Does anyone have a script that I can point at a named directory and it will delete any file that has not been accessed since dd/mm/yyyy All the staff at my school are hoarders and they do insist on keeping every photo, you tube clip and document they have ever produced. I have been threatening to do this for ages but they have not listened so now it's time for action. Thanks in advance Ian
  2. Thank you all for your ideas. I tried Openfiler, and the install failed as the Ethernet cards where not switched on!! not being a linux person couldn't get past the error. So I did a little digging reached out to a few more friends and got a beta version of MS Storage Server, which seems to be working well on one of the servers. Reading dhicks post made me think of the the VESSARAID box I had put away, So I have dug that out powered it up and I am now trying to connect it to the Storage server. So far so good, its found the isci connector now all i need it to do is mount the drive.
  3. Hi jamesfed sadly my old servers are a collection of Dell, HP, Fujitsui and Intel. Hi Somabc I like the look of Openfiler, do you use it? I have a couple more questions before i kick off the download.
  4. Thanks for that reading the website now
  5. Dear All, Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, but i wasn't quite sure what to put this one. The summer is coming to an end and we have all either upgraded or replaced our servers, but what we do with the old servers? My first thought was to bin them or sell them off and buy a nice new SAN, but they are expensive. Then a thought stuck me, why not wipe them all clean install a piece of software that connects them all together and hey presto instant SAN. My trouble is I don't know which piece of software to use or even if it exists. Any ideas?? TIA Ian
  6. Richard, Thanks for the code, can I just confirm that the code listed in your blog will upload documents, etc into each of the users mysites. For example each child would get their own music timetable.
  7. I'm looking for a way to publish pdf documents to users home directories and then have them (home directories) displayed on the users mysite page. I have already worked out how to publish my pdf's to a series of home directories, I just need to get those directories onto the users mysite page. I have looked a similar solution and even the commercial alternative .However, all I want to do is publish the the directory. Any ideas? Thanks in adavnace
  8. Hi Guys The IE Tab is the first thing I tried. However, I will look at the smultron and kompozer solutions
  9. I have a small number of mac users at my school who insist on using their macs to update their web pages within our MS Share Point site. They were all fine until they discovered that their windows counterparts can use the in built rich text editor. So now they are a little miffed that they don't have the editor. Any ideas on how I overcome this? I have seen a few ideas being punted on google but they all involve the users installing apps on their mac books, which as we all know is not a good idea to allow users to install apps on their own. Any help much appreciated.
  10. All, Can anyone recommend a day / two course on share point admin. That will be running during the summer half term?
  11. Just to clarify the USB connection is to power the IWB, hence the need for a USB connection. I do like the idea of using a PC and VNC, however, that would mean too much kit on the teachers desks.
  12. All This has probably been asked already, but I couldn't find it looking through the various posts on here. The school is thinking of deploying Ipad's to all staff, as you can imagine the staff all very pleased with this. However, there is a problem that prevents this from happening and as yet I haven't seen a device/docking station that gets round this. The problem is the iPad only has one port, so you can either connect a USB device or a VGA or what ever, but not two devices at the same. For example, the school uses Promethean Boards which require a USB connection to the PC/Mac and then you need a VGA/DVI connection for the projector. Has anyone seen an old fashioned port replicator that will solve my problems??
  13. Just read several android users experience (on android market) with tapatalk and it didn't fair well
  14. School Manager from CJM Software will run on Mac & Windows platforms, but has anyone managed to get it to run on an Android platform? The school is currently contemplating buying ipad like devices which are on the android platform, as buying over 60 ipads is a little too expensive. Your thoughts.
  15. All the above maybe true. I just thought I would mention them as I have never personally had any trouble with them in over 10 years.
  16. I use FastHosts. I use them for all my private work and they have never let me down. Plus the price they charge is more than reasonable
  17. Not into steep learning curves, as I don't really have the time. So I'll look forward to your sales guy phone call on Tuesday.
  18. Just looked at ebay and there are quite a few PIX515E's for sale, but how does a PIX515E compare to smoothwall UTM device. Should I go for the PIX or hold out for the smoothwall. I've got until the end of the week when I will be sitting down with the Bursar to ask for the money
  19. I'm running smoothwall express, but was told by smoothwall support that it only supports a single ip. I will have a closer look at Endian
  20. already have the smoothwall guys coming to see me, but thanks.
  21. All, The school has recently change ISP's and our old ISP has taken back their Cisco PIX 515e Firewall. I have a temporary solution in place but would like a rack mounted appliance. The schools current web filter is a Barracuda device, but it's now developed a habit of freezing which I think is down to its age. So in short I'm looking for a device(s) that will do the above.
  22. Hi Guys, I've got a few projector issues which need sorting first, so i will get back to you on the event id
  23. @Sukh: The upgrade will happen at the end of the summer term. The OS is 2003 Enterprise R2, There is no pattern to when the services lock, but I do know now that the event id is 9175. Powershell can be deployed onto the server if required.
  24. Hi Guys Here's my plan of attack so far;- I have identified that the error code I want to trap is 9175 and after a couple of lengthy calls to other IT managers. We have stumbled on the following plan which should get us to the summer break and beyond if my MS Exchange budget gets pulled !! 1. Download the Eventsmanager tool from GFI 2. Install and point it at the servers application log 3. When the application log has an error and event ID of 9175, restart both MTA Stacks and Information store. It's not ideal, but it will keep us going until the upgrade. Will let you all know what happens tomorrow once it's all set up and running. @SkreeM1980: Had a look at the solar winds tool and it didn't give me the information I wanted out of it.
  25. Hi Sukh We're running MS 2003 Enterprise
