Which is funny, because the likes of us lowly technicians, pay has not gone up except with inflation in, what, 15 years? The jobs I see coming up now are the same salary at least 5-7 years ago when i started job hunting (in some cases inflation has had no affect, and they haven't gone up!), yet the gap from 'technician' pay to 'manager' pay increases every year.

After you've punched the first few in the face, i gather your knuckles start to desensitize. It's the facial piecings and the vast quantity of chewing gum you have to watch out for. And cooties.

Star Trek (predominantly the latest one, but to a certain extent all of them) James Bond Die Hard Terminator Gladiator 300 Bad Boys I don't think i've ever watched any of the old gangsta/mob movies, but have to conceed, that Godfathers needs to be in there. Reservoir Dogs needs an honourable mention, and I dare you to find a man that hasn't watched Star Wars at some point.... Wheither you love it or hate it, every man has watched it. Rocky and Rambo deserve a place as a matched pair; one is about beating people with your fists, the other about senseless use of oversized combat knives and automatic weapons. The last slot should be a comedy movie, and Spaceballs is a good contender, but don't think it's 'man enough' to make it.

I have machines ranging from a few months old to 12 years old, and I can say quite happily that none of them are likely to set themselves on fire. This is either a fault with the laptop, or the stupidity of the user. I'd be curious to know where she stored the laptop to cause it to burn down her house in an hour... I've had laptops so hot you could cook off them, being stored in a laptop bag surrounded by paper, and never spontaneously combusted. Either way, I just cannot see how an employer can be responsible for this unless they ordered her to store it in a pile of combustible material and wait..

Wonder how many techies haven't had the time to login yet this week due to all these teachers NOT panicking at the beginning of the term.

I've had a steady stream of "It's not plugged in" for IWB's, Visualisers, Laptops, projectors, speakers and network cables. Most infuriating i've had is a HLTA moaning I didn't consult them before replacing MS Office 2003 with Open Office in the ICT suite. I only consulted with the HT, the dHT, and the ICT teacher on it....

...Since the start of term, and just now is the first time i've had to suggest turning it off and on again. I'm sure that's some sort of record? And sure enough the outcome was "Oh it's working fine now."

I got a phone call on sunday asking if I'd come in over the weekend and change the projector bulb. I said no, it was half way through the day and I had plans and a dinner to goto... I came in yesterday to find someone's son came in and went up the 20ft ladder and did it instead.... I'd complain about it, but since the person who arranged it was the head, I think it might be a lost cause!

Find time to recoup the 11 days of overtime they owe me already...

Now I'm getting neg repped because people think I neg repped them... in a thread where I clearly stated I wouldn't neg rep unless they really were a troll, with lichen and everything. Just for the record.... I have NEVER neg repped a single post on this forum. :mad: I vote to remove the feature completely. It leads to wide speculation and random neg repping, and posters feeling bitter. It's just a feature for trolls to send anonymous hatemail. Any post that warrants it is a job for a forum mod, or should be attacked/defended as appropriate.

Since the air con in the ICT suite died this week, I don't think there is much of a need for heating in here currently...

I was going to post something about how badly this will work, or wont as I strongly believe. It is so bad, I won't even waste my time on it. There was enough pressure before the bill was pushed not to do it, so i don't see how whining about it afterwards will help. Simply put, I'll just wait for when Sony Music insists we shut down e2bn because they found 3 mp3's on some school's PC. And then wait for them to turn off the internet to 10 million people across the country, and watch Virgin/BT and the others sue them for damages. Next they are going to stipulate that all IT techies must wear a Pineapple on our left shoulder at all times. It makes about as much sense, and probably just as easy/hard to enforce.

bump on this, desperately need to find something, anything on this software. I literally have nothing, and this software needs to be installed + working before the end of the week!

I'm in the middle of a network rebuild, and despite more than 6 folders full of cd's and 200gb of downloaded installers, I do not in fact have a single copy of lessonmaker v4 anywhere, except a faulty install on the workstations I am already rebuilding (it only installs to the local folder in the prog files directory, which is not much use for students with no C drive access!) To top it off, Edutech systems who made this software, all their tech support is on holiday for the next 2 1/2 weeks Anyone able to help locate an installer for this? I need this software installed and working by the end of the week!

Like all good STUPID ideas thought up by governments, they will either have to turn a blind eye to schools etc, or fix the act after it is passed. The problem with this, is working out HOW a person has brought in copyrighted material onto the site. Because I can bet most schools who will have all the major sites/programs/protocol's like torrents, limewire etc locked down. And are the ISP's really going to sift through the 12+ hours of network usage for 400-2,000 users of a single school, spread across what has got to be half a million schools per day? The Act if it is going to be this is unenforceable unless they plan on comandeering a major city and employing everyone in it to sift through all your ISP logs. It'll be just like pirated/unlicensed use of MS licensing. If $user at home gets a dodgy copy, MS don't care. If $school is 2 licenses over their limit of XP licences, they don't care all that much, and certainly don't check very often. $business that runs their entire company including 5 servers 100 machines all running windows, office, sharepoint and exchange all pirated, well cha-ching for MS. It's only enforceable and traceable on the very worst of offenders. $student using real player to rip a copy of that music video and post it on their myspace, they just don't give a damn. If they enforced this act next week, They'd put half the ISP's in the country out of business before xmas because I can guarantee, EVERYONE has got, used, watched or acquired in some way shape or form some sort of breach of copyright over their internet connection at some time, and WILL do so again. It's about time governments woke up and realised what the film and music industry are. While we are 500 billion in debt, the film and music companies are making billions in profit every year, AND THEN forcing governments to waste more time effort and money, so they can FORCE US to pay more back to the film and music industry.
