  1. can you eloborate on this process i was looking at resource pools is this the correct area in sql 2008
  2. Hi all Can someone tell me if I can limit the amount of ram that is used by sql server 2012 as I have a Library database on sql 2008 on the same server this is now running like a dog and eventually packs in. I need to stop and start the sql 2008 instance then it works again for a while. on server 2012 Sims/FMS/Discover/solus3 on the sql 2012 instance Eclipse.net is running on the 2008 instance (support say i can not move to 2012) The server is running at 90% ram usage (expected) got more ram coming but I will be in the same boat once sql 2012 gets its hands on it. This problem only happened once sims was migrated to sql 2012 as it was on sql 2008 with no slow downs. any ideas.
  3. After upgrading to sql 2012 my measily 8 gig of ram is just not cutting it. I have had quotes off dell and they are just beyond stupid over 200 quid for 8 gig server is dell power edge 2970 HK002 4 Dual In-line Memory Module, 2G 667M, 256X72, 2RX8 is the current ram 4x2gb its about 4 years old has anyone got any lying around that we might be able to purchase. Quotes from suppliers welcome thanks in advance
  4. Thanks for your help. The old server is no more. Still have a few dns issues that im working on but the macs are working again.
  5. ok ping fqdn and ip on the mac client both resolve did dcdiag and only errors are from replication this is expected due to dead server. cant demote failed server through recovery mode so i need to clean meta data and stop replication of dns
  6. just checking before i try and demote the old server my main server holds these roles a does this look ok(well it must be otherwise all our windows network would be down face palm moment) Schema master SCHOOLSERVER.mydomain.local Domain naming master SCHOOLSERVER.mydomain.local PDC SCHOOLSERVER.mydomain.local RID pool manager SCHOOLSERVER.mydomain.local Infrastructure master SCHOOLSERVER.mydomain.local The command completed successfully. Only thing i could not see was wins role
  7. My main server is already the GC the failed server was just a backup for the main server as the roles it had are DNS DHCP I think i will bite the bullet tomorrow Its nice to get the Gotchas out of the way thats why I asked The macs are funny with DNS im pretty sure it is that as i can rebind them and then once they are rebooted the users can not log on........what a pain in the rear i have to rebind again. It kinda sucks thanks again
  8. my windows systems are fine its my macs that are throwing a wobbler
  9. Thanks for that just a few questions I have 2 servers one being my main server and the other is a backup domain controller that has dns and dhcp etc i can log onto the failed domain controller using activ directory recovery mode i should then perform the command Dcpromo /forceremoval this should not break my existing main domain controller is this correct? i will need to perform a metadata cleanup after or as i can actually get onto the failed domain controller should i do something different
  10. Hi i have a backup domain controller and it has died how can i stop computers from trying to authenticate from it. do i remove the a record from trom dns to stop this or can someone give me an idea of how to stop authentification from this server server 2003

On the desktops the hard drive mounting screws are too tight take one out and it will make it so much quieter

  20. Lanschool in use here the software is easy to install and manage it also can control mixed enviroments pc an mac in the same area. it is very reliable and the pricing is extremely good especially if you tell them you are migrating from another product. you get a discount if you say this. pricing works on per machine blank screen keyboard monitoring for swear words all keystokes logged web history block apps and internet show teachers screen to multiple users co browsing it is much more reliable than net support great piece of software
