I'm waiting to hear if there is a work around - but this is a real shame as the Apple Caching Server has solved a lot of problems for us.

28/05/14 - iOS7 update incident call 4521375 There is currently a known interoperability issue with Apple's OS X Caching Service and large wide area networks implementing proxy services (including RM's SafetyNet Plus service). Due to the way in which Apple has implemented the default configuration for the Caching Service, RM customers who run the OS X Caching Service can prevent other RM customers downloading updates and apps for Apple devices running iOS7 and above. In order to ensure all customers retain the ability to download updates and apps for their Apple devices, RM is restricting access to the Apple Caching Service registration system. The restriction will be implemented on the evening of Tuesday 3rd June 2014. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause some customers.

I've had users report getting access to inappropriate material using newsstand. None of the conventional age restriction mechanisms seem to work in managing this. Has anyone out there noticed this and found a solution? Swgfl filtering doesn't block the publications which feature rude front covers.

Beware migrating a domain from one office 365 tenancy to another. It can be anything but straightforward. I've done this quite a few times. The domain needs to be totally removed from office365 before it can be added to a new tenancy. If the domain is the primary domain on the tenancy (It sounds like yours isn't) then good look. It took me 5 months to get these domains removed, and that involved deleting the entire old tenancy. Regarding your mx records, as long as you have control of the domain and quick access to change the mx records when you are ready, that should be a smooth process.

This is a problem that has been bugging me for ages - We use offline files within Windows 7 so that staff can access various network shares when not connected to our school network. This works fine, and when staff work from home or out and about, the shares are available and so they have access to their docs and various desktop and start menu redirects without a problem. However, if they connect to a network with a different domain controller available (i.e. another school), the offline files are not available. We have lots of staff going out to different schools, and the only work around is to disable all network connection until they have logged on. That way they can have access to the offline shares as well as have network access. If they don't do this, then their docs, desktop and start menu don't load correctly and the laptop is unusable. Anybody come across this or have any ideas for a solution?

On SWGFL here, have had firewall ports opened. Can get Windows clients to talk to console, but not iOS. Could it be the proxy server?

I struggled for ages getting activesync working on my Desire with live@edu. Apps such as touchdown worked fine. In the end, I rooted the phone and ditched htc sense and exchange works fine. I've encountered quite a few people using htc phones who have struggled with exchange connections, and the problem always seemed to be linked to the way that sense deals with certificates.

We've been using live@edu for over a year now and I have to say that our experience has been really good. Nice to have a system that just works. I've been trying to create a connection from Outlook 2007 to live@edu using the exchange autodiscover method but can't get it to work on our SWGFL internet connection. It works fine on our backup adsl, so the problem appears to be the SWGFL firewall, or maybe the proxy server. We'e been advised to have the following outbound ports opened, but it still doesn't work! To 157.55.11.12 Port: 443 To: Mail Server Ports: 587, 993, 995 (secure IMAP and POP3) Anyone out there got this working?

Every time I go to our live@edu web interface, ie9 crashes. Anyone else experiencing this?

Is the server a member of the domain that you are tryin to authenticate against?

We converted on 1st November. SWGFL have been very accommodating - I think that they realise that this is the way that things are going. As a result, we have stuck with our existing connection. Email and website hosted elsewhere. With regard to SIMS, yes we have had to relicence at great expense. Seems like a cash bonanza/licence to print money for Capita - best part of £10000 (primary school) of money which could have been spent on books and other resources - not exactly sure what we get for this princely sum - other than a bloated MIS. We have stopped using FMS and started using SAGE. Not only was this a good opportunity to start using a decent financial package, but also FMS currently struggles to provide some of the reporting necessary for academies. It is possible, but messy. We have kept our SLA with our local authority SIMS support team. Our approach to becoming an academy is "If it ain't broke don't fix it". The team in question are both helpful and effective, so why replace them?

I think this is a perfect example of companies ripping off schools. Our cost for support on this software is also about £350. We barely have that many books in our library. The cost of this subscription simply cannot be justified. If you are reading this Microlib rep, then go ahead. Take up my challenge and explain how a school can get value for money for this fee. Why are the support charges so disproportinate in comparison with support charges from other main stream software suppliers? Because the market for this software is schools! Particularly smaller primary schools. The invoice arrives in the school office..."ah we need our library system - just pay it" no questions asked. Stop ripping off schools Microlib!

I have been looking at this, but not got round to deploying yet. It will be interesting to hear how you get on with this.

I've just set up a couple of mobile phones for our SLT. At the moment we haven't got a Mobile Phone usage policy but I think we need one. Does anyone else a document like this that I can take a look at?

Legal issues aside, surely it makes sense that an OS installation should include some tools to keep that installation virus free and secure its integrity and ability to function. There are plenty of people who would use Security Essentials if it was bundled. I use it as an add on at home at the moment, and it does the job very well. Sure feel free to purchase more advanced, feature rich software which would maybe do a better job, but I think for the vast majority of users (yes those who routinely get ripped off by Mcafee and co), a bundled solution would be ample.

Sadly the anti-competitive lobby would have something to say about that. Even though it would be better for us users to have virus protection as an integral part of the OS, the likes of Symantec etc will never allow it. Maybe, those companies should start making better products that don't grind our computers to a halt. Then is might be worthwhile forking out a bit more cash for more advanced security software.

Just read this blog post from MS. MS Security Essentials can now be used by small businesses/organisations for free on up to 10 computers. Previously it was licensed for personal use only. This may of use to anyone out there with a very small network.
