what about the poor ginger people, has anybody considered them?
-
i'm actually glad it's rubbish. perhaps game makers will move more towards pleasing the gamers than just riding on the coat tails of previous versions or using sensationalistic level ideas (ohh look we get to run through an airport killing people) or silly rewards. they want to create a realistic war game, yet give ordinary soldiers access to air strikes, nuclear bombs, ability to fall great heights etc. because they have killed x amount of people.

this is ofishally the worst thread here. you should all take the opportunaty to view other threads, perhaps the COD black ops one for example.

james may done that with trains didnt he? he bought a collectors item at auction then opened it up in front of other collectors, and said "its a toy train, its meant to give kids enjoyment, not sit on your shelf for 50 years doing nothing"

you can get lost if you think i'm using them microsoft condoms! -
which means next year microsoft will bring out "kinect classroom" or something, and it'll be about £90 and have a few simple classroom based learning games.

the easter eggs are fabulous. the lost hatch, the bubble gun, the beached whale, etc. and its an immense island. even in a jet plane it will take about 5 mins to cross the island (real time)

that one with the bank details must be absolutely thick. if he logged in, he must have then connected to a network somehow to get the laptop online, and say he got in to the bank account, then what? you transfer out 20k to your account, well thats inconspicuous! and even if it let you, the transaction will be logged with time/date/ip so again leading back to you. i loved how pc world ripped them off. do you want a £400 laptop for £599, do you want to buy a rubbish printer that you'll need to replace in 6 months? where in the world? pissy world

its quite a good game. plus quite a few funny easter eggs to find (like the hatch from LOST). vehicles are quite good, and fairly easy to control, weapons are ok, missions are just varied enough (not on GTA scale) to be enjoyable. voice acting is a bit.....hit and miss, but graphically i can't fault it. flying up high and looking over the whole island does look impressive

we did try to explain it in real terms to one governor and like i say, she glazed over and didnt understand us saying servers with multiple roles and having one physical server with 5 virtual servers. she found it hard to envision that. so its not treating them like children, its trying to explain it in a sense they will understand without just saying "this big box of junk will run those smaller boxes of junk" and dumbing down too much. the room/person/warehouse and russian doll analogies give ideas of how it works without patronising too much i think. and james, thanks for that link, definitely some ones in there we could hit on!
-
it's not just the money aspect, they want to try and understand the reasoning and how it works.

we used to have fridge, kettle, microwave, sandwich toaster and coffee maker in our office at my old place. here its nothing, have to go to the staff room

How to make online banking harder curtesy of Lloyds TSB
MK-2 replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
i had one from natwest but they is only used if i want to make payments online from my account. i put my card in, enter the number on screen, it then creates a code on the readers screen that i enter on the pc and thats it. none of this entering customer details etc. its probably the only thing natwest have done right up til now, their online banking is a lot smoother than others. -
i do really like the russian dolls one

the problem is for those who dont really understand IT that is just you sat there running different programs on a PC. if they dont understand stuff in more depth then just showing them is like a mechanic showing you under the bonnet if you haven't got a clue about cars
-
thanks for the ideas. we dont actually know what level they are expecting this to be pitched at, but all the ideas give us some options. thanks

We have to convince the governors that we'd like to go with virtualisation on our servers, but the last time we tried explaining to one governor her eyes glazed over. Are there any legitimate analogies we could use? Sort of like "imagine servers were tables, you have one table to hold a lot of files (a server role). you then have another table to hold another lot of files. virtualisation would be getting a much larger, sturdier table that could hold multiple files." i know its not great, but we need something that the governors can understand without delving into technical terms really. any help would be appreciated!

use WDS to boot to the image, saves on disks and sticks

Thanks for the info. The parent runs his own IT business so I trust he knows what he is talking about and tweaking, but I do know what you mean, one harmless setting that could have a knock on effect, etc. I'll dig deeper. Thanks
