another virtual NIC is not going to do anything if it is going through the same physical nic, (in fact it would probably cause a fractional decrease due to overheads) like pete says add some physical nics and aggregate the links. I've just put quad port nics in our ESX boxes to handle VM traffic (aggregated, vlan tagged), and use the onboard nics purely for vmkernel/vmotion/vcenter traffic.

this would restrict the shortcut via user not via computer the user is logged into. although it might work for your purposes. loopback processing would be the way to do this, but you may have to maintain an additional redirected desktop/startmenu identical to the normal one just for the purposes each room. eg. KS1 - Room1, KS1 - Room2, KS2 - Room1, KS2 - Room2 and it could easily become complicated an unmanageable. I don't use folder redirection, because of the additional network traffic / load on the file server. (although i'm not saying you shouldn't use it, especially if you have less machines than our school, faster switches etc.) i don't know if this possible with folder redirection, but we still allow everyone access to the all users start menu and remove everything except the few programs that are specific to the room, and the bulk of the programs they use are placed in the personal start menu at login time (which they can access from any machine). we moved away from having different programs installed on different computers based on the room for this reason. and users see applications that they have access to regardless of where they are logged in.

we recently moved our san, and I took the disks out just to reduce the weight. + in case it got knocked etc. supposedly the Smart array controllers and the MSA controller can take the disks in any order. there was no way I was taking that risk though and marked the order of each one, we still had a problem when we powered it back up, one of the disks "failed". obviously I have 3 hot spares in this SAN for the number of disks in it. and it just rebuilt on it. came in the next morning and pulled the "failed" disk out to write down the serial / model / part no. and when I put it back. ohh disk 13 / box 2 online --> rebuilding array. moral of the story. expect the worse when playing with disk arrays and always always always make 5 backups

yes definitely check that, we don't use FOG (yet!) but we found with ghost/sysprep that the delegated account didn't always work. we also found this worked better with the FQDN of the domain instead of the netbios name.

sorry do apologize the WSUS is an exception, and obviously the edge firewall (in which that exception is defined), and the mail server has no outgoing internet access , just the SMTP ports in/out to further down the chain. the ESX hosts management ports are on a VLAN that have no chance of getting on the internet ever.

All My servers have no internet access, by design.

Hi, Has anyone migrated from Raid 5 to Raid 6 on a P400 array controller? Is it possible online, without destroying the existing logical drive? I have installed the 512mb memory and battery. Conrad

It doesn't have a local gui. But i though you could install the mmc snapins on a vista+ box and manage the box with that.

ESXi will perform much better than hyper-v. The hyper-v parent partition will use 2gb of memory for itself and you can't overcommit memory with hyper-v but you can with esxi my .02c

Hi, I have an increasing number of users who have V2 (Vista/Windows 7) Profiles appearing in the profiles share, any idea working out which machine they have logged in from, As we are an all XP shop here so I can't understand this?

answer is yes to both, RC to RTM is supported and I did a windows 2003 (x32) DPM 2007 (x32) --> Windows 2008 (x64) DPM 2010 (x64) you have to backup the database, then uninstall DPM (Select Keep Replicas). Reinstall Windows if you have to(x64) (don't wipe the replica partitions). Then reinstall DPM 2007, restore the database, sync the database, then re-sync the replicas. Then install DPM 2010 which will upgrade the DPM 2007 (x64) install. Obviously agents need updating, I found if you did this manually it didn't need a reboot! I should warn you though one replica lost its recovery points, a week later, I don't know if it was related?

we're running the RC of DPM 2010 its so much better than 2007 its running so smoothly now.

also look at the sysprep.inf there are options in there so when you image a machine you can tell it to use your custom driver directory you put on your image.

Out of interest what was the reason for the rebuild in the first place? Are there any options in the CMOS for the nic?? and did the nic work before?? btw for next time there's DriverBackup which will backup all your installed drivers and normally saves this kind of problem. http://sourceforge.net/projects/drvback/

James, your right in what your saying. I just normally take the same approach to trolling as I do distriptutive kids. Don't give them the attention they so obviously crave!
