[wds] MDT task sequence to accomplish prestaging like RIS
oxide54 replied to mhundley's topic in O/S Deployment
i agree, we ghost a generic image ( press f12 is all you need to do ghost is automated ) and then give it a computer name at the end. if its a re-ghost then the computer is already in the right ou if not then we move it afterwards. MDT just seems like a pain in the proverbial. btw was on a training course recently and the instructor seemed to think you could feed drivers portion of MDT exe installers for drivers and it would take them, but then again he was telling people you can't virtualize DC's -

wsgfl blocked it for a while, and made a big deal of it on the atomwide site, then they unblocked and posted that they didn't think it was threat after all. no-one at our school new cause no one uses it.

was the emulated intel nic, I removed it and added a vmxnet and all seems well now, lets hope it stays that way. it does seem sooo much more responsive.
-
sorry the reboot just seemed to fix it for a bit. its eating cpu, and memory usage is back to 3.25gb but task manager isn't showing any app as using the memory. and the cpu is blamed on system process. weird. found something about the intel nic driver that comes with 08 r2 not working very well, and updated it but it hasn't helped. would make sense though if a kernel driver is eating all the memory then no app would show as using it.
-
the performance was still quite rubbish over rdp, then i noticed I had only give it 1 VCPU. with 1 VCPU cpu = 100% constant and 3.25gb memory in use all the time. with 2 VCPU cpu = 0% constant and 711mb weird.
-
yes the schema extensions itself does not target a specific processor, you just need to run the correct version of adprep depending on which os you run it from,
-
sorry yes that what i meant the performance of the console is slow. rdp doesn't work very well over our vpn, vsphere is fine.
-
ahem, update 1 fixes the vga hang issue, but the performance is still pants

adding a server 2008 dc to a 2003 domain
oxide54 replied to jason2234's topic in Windows Server 2008
More to the point what is your recovery plan if your DC's develop a harddisk failure generally, do you not back them up on a daily / weekly etc basis. -
adding a server 2008 dc to a 2003 domain
oxide54 replied to jason2234's topic in Windows Server 2008
if all you are doing is thinking about running dcpromo then no the adprep command are not a prerequisite for thinking about doing it. but you will need to run them if you are actually going to run dcpromo. -
actually where are the user' shares??? its not on samba box is it?
-
hmm sounds a bit like the non specific internet problem!

vegas is a quality product, have you ever used acid? ( the software not the other thing its a video version of acid. I was supposed to show the teacher how to use it, but never had to in the end, if that says anything!
-
Its not cheap, but i bought sony vegas for the media studies suite. Its rock solid and stopped the teachers nearly have a breakdown trying to use movie maker. We found movie maker mainly has problems with MPEG2 videos, (codec related)

We just generally ask the user first, I know who I can connect to if they don't answer the phone and I generally tell them, normally because they had a document open and i had to tell them where i saved. But thats only when they've requested we fix something. Our VNC is pass word protected and only me and the technician know the password.

have you got a link

i've just installed R2 on the laptop (on the metal) and noticed how responsive it is in comparison to runing under ESX4.0. Laptop is AMD Turion x64 4GB. ESX4.0 Box is Dual Quad Core Zeon 16gb. Okay its running other workloads but i shut them down, and it is a world of difference running it on the metal and under ESX4.0. the laptops faster than it was with windows 7!
