App-v lets you specify licenses for products , and only allows the number you are licensed for to be run concurrently (in theory anyway!) and it gets round traditional license agreements that don't allow concurrent usage and count installations, because App-V applications are not installed. allow some software different license agreements. its all in the wording

Ok I've built a new windows 2008 vm for SIMS.net and installed SQL 2008 express (from SiMS setups) and intalled SIMS.net etc. i've detached the DB from the old server and attached to new server, i've also tried backing up the old server and restoring it. Both via dbattach. no sims users can login they get invalid username and password. i've run sims.db_p_reset_sysman_password and reset the sysman password, then reset my password and logged in and I can get in, obviously I can't reset everyones password that would be a bit mad, this server is vlan'd away from the real sims server so I've got time to work on it. any ideas on getting the logins to work? the reason for this is the old server is 2003 and my new policy is server should be 2008.

plumbers are generally self employed and if not, still effectively to the customer, i.e. you pay a price for a job, not a salary/ most school techs/nm are on salary and as such its a totally different ball game, at the same time we aren't going to get paid any more for working quicker.

we need the external connector yes, the question is do i need the student cals if i buy the external connector? staff apparently are covered under work at home rights,

parents are covered under student cals! thing is an external connector is less than half the price of 1500 student cals. so it would be nice if it covered it. then theres the VDA cals for citrix. aghhh!!

i've got it, its called the base it comes with exchange, windows and sharepoint cals. + Windows Upgrade + Office my questions is, surely the external connector covers you for external and you don;t need student cals as well, supplier is telling me you do but I'm not sure i believe them

thanks mate. I am right in thinking, schools agreement covers me internally anyway, device cals come with it, and then external connector covers me externally so I don't need anything else except the server itself?

if your boss is that much of a idiot, then lie and call in sick the onus is on them to prove you weren't sick, and is quite plausable given the cold weather, if you don't pull sickies all the time you should be fine.

Anyone know how to download the eval of XenDesktop VDI edition? seems they only let you download the express edition, trouble is i can't really evaluate the provisioning and other hypervisors with that version? any one?

and also can really depends what road you live on, in your town. if you live on a relatively main road you may be able to get your car out, we live on a cul-de-sac (not gritted) which is on a hill, i challenge anyone to get a car out of here at the moment!

toby what os you running it on? if your going for windows/asp.net have a look on codeplex. blogengine.net was a piece of cake to customize authentication, i've used about 10 times all using different authentication methods AD a couple of times, even got it working with our multi domain. I know you probably want to go linux but you probably will have better luck with asp.net solution,

I read that as I can install ESXi install one windows server VM standard and then do a physcial installation of windows server on my workstation and install the RSAT tools and VSPhere client as I am them using that physical machine to manage the host?? I don't think thats true but thats how it reads to me,

it makes a copy of the whole thing, this is the replica. then it stores differences between the replica and the current state in the recovery point. oversimplistic explanation, but its about it.
