had a presentation by this company of their Scholaris 2007 Learning Gateway. I was impressed. Has anybody else had a visit from these people? I know they were at BETT.

that's right, me too. sometime in the '60's before the cold light of cathode tube illuminated my mind. there was always the wireless, two way family favourites, the light programme, hilvershum. at least we've still got the shipping forcast and lily bolero. -
Hi tech_master, the water's warm. I thought I'd missed this thread for some reason, and yet here were all these posts, then I checked the dates, and apart from yours, they're all for Jan 2006. That expalins a lot.

because despite the amount of drivel you imagine comes out of the states, there's a lot of good stuff in there as well, and Sesame Street was/is up near the top for delivering educational content in a manner which made it easy for kids to soak it up with enthusiasm. It made a great difference to my kids early learning. Essential viewing in my eyes. -

I think we should have a poll; Are you planning to, or do you use disposable nappies? If so, on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being very, very bad, how guilty do you feel? lol -

yup, at that age they're a basic I/O system (and none too bad until they start eating solids) -

that's not a bad idea. OK, big question. Terry nappies or disposables? and remember, the quality of your child's future depends upon you answering correctly. -

@SimpleSi - I was going to install it on my laptop anyway. I'm doing a trial, having the school website on the C: drive and the Moodle on the D: drive, and working between the two before installing it on a server, so don't feel guilty. *EDIT* no, the clock doesn't show in IE either, so it mustn't be there. -

shouldn't you be running around boiling pans of water or something Russ? -

surely not? at least Des brought a little wit and understated intelligence to his role, while Des looks like a rabbit caught in a car's headlights. -

that's right, it used to follow the repeats of Countdown (another good programme to have your kids watching) though I'm not sure if Des O'Connor is cut out for the role of host. -

Right then, Guest access. I only did this a couple of weeks ago on my machine at work and it's taken me a while to find out how to do it again. For Guest access to individual courses, select the course, Turn Editing On and hit the Edit symbol, scroll down to the Guest Access dropdown and select "Allow Guests without the key" option. Guests will now be able to view the course material, but not alter it or do anything else to affect it (unless somebody posts on this forum to the contrary) There's also a a setting, and I can't find it at the moment (you've got to be a bit of an evengelist to keep doing this) which changes the front page from the Welcome page to a purely login page, which also has the Login as Guest option. Hope this helps -

you're right Russ, both my girls (20 and 16 now) were brought up on Sesame Street. I'm with you all the way. Strike while the iron's hot I say -

"should have clock on front page" there's a problem displaying the clock when viewed in Firefox. It works in IE6 + 7. There's supposed to be a work round, but I haven't succeeded with it yet. I'm about to instal Moodle 1.7 on my laptop, so I'll report back here later re the Guest account/login. -
I cut the label off my (Christmas present) dressing gown just now, and saw that the description read "Textured Waffle" It put me in mind of a company PA last Friday saying that that they (the company) were "de-layering the management structure" which meant they were sacking managers. Do you think this counts as textured waffle?

I don't actually think that they'll be staying on at school until they're 18, but going on to do something, I don't know, I'm grasping for words here... I know, I'll call it an "apprenticeship", where they get to learn a trade.

I'd be interested to hear from those schools who host their own VLE (whichever it may be), what their server setup is. Processor, capacity, OS, the usual suspects. TIA

I get the feeling that the LEA's knew about this about 5 minutes before we found out. It takes time for them to formulate a strategy. I expect gestation to last until February half term.

It seems that there's a bug in Moodle 1.7 (I assume that's what you're using)
