  1. There should be a practice test, "Practice Test 1040" which you can set up for pupils and staff to work through (better to get the staff to have a go first - using the anonymous login). Ask them if they did a practice test last year. Make sure the test is installed on each machine. Get used to the Flight Deck. Ask for one week's notice before scheduling a test if you're not sure how to go about it. One day minimum.
  2. installed 30 brand new machines with the same image over Easter. One pupil tried to print to flashpaper on a machine and it just hung half way through. Logged on as admin on the same machine, same problem. Tried another machine, no problem, either for her or admin. has anyone come across this? *EDIT* should add that the 30 were part of a larger order and we didn't image the machines ourselves, just created the original image which the company rolled out for us before delivery.
  3. In APS if I go to Test>Manage Tests, the Summative Test 2007 is there, though not due for release until the 23rd of this month. Hope this helps
  4. Isn't FrontPage being rebranded so that you can edit/design Sharepoint 2007 pages? *EDIT* found it for myself - here
  5. this site I did uses I-frames. Basically a static page with a call to an html page so that it appears in the body of the main site. The I-frame code is really quite simple, see here. hope this helps

@minorpeace, you don't happen to work for equallogic, do you?
  7. We get keys to all the doors in the school, apart from certain rooms, such as the head's. But we don't have keys to the school, which is just as well.
  8. you may find this useful
  9. I was listening to this by Mark Thomas last night. Thought I'd share it. It takes a couple of minutes to get going, but after that it had me in stitches.

thanks for that Tony. I'm afraid I don't hold information in my head the way some people do. I have to prepare everything beforehand and it does tend to mean that my wonderful rebuttal of an argument, like the glorious put-down, is something which arrives three days later.

  12. Here's what I'm doing with our VLE. Again, it's a highly modified Clouds theme, but it certainly didn't take me 7 weeks, probably 3/4 days in total. If you want I'll devise something a little more tasteful, gratis, I might need to start advertising my skills sooner than I thought

Russ, I'm trying to see the positives in this, but so far, there's very little to sustain me. To me, losing the burden is the same as losing the staff. I can't see that my school can afford to keep me on as a "specialist" while being asked to pay £100 per pupil per year (those are the figures in front of me).

    Myths and Facts

just been handed a sheet from a meeting which took place yesterday. It says, "FACT The only stipulations of the national BSF programme with regard to ICT are that: The solution should remove from schools the burden of procuring and managing ICT; An area-wide solution should be procured which recognizes the new dynamics of Every Child Matters and the changes in 14-19 education; and The ICT solutions procured should meet or exceed the latest BECTA functional and functional specifications"
  15. after a lot of heaving and puffing I've finally managed to get the content sorted. I had to go to the server with the cd rom and copy it to the site that way. Then I had to create a course, then under the Format section, where it has a dropdown with Social, Weekly, Topic formats and more I chose the Scorm format. After Saving Changes, I added myself as Admin (Moodle 1.7 takes you this route automatically). Then it allowed me to continue to actually add the Scorm material. I was making a fundamental mistake at this point after the coursework had been located. I was choosing Unzip, rather than Choose to upload and unzip the content. You only do that when you're restoring from backup. It's still not fully working, icons are missing, but that's a minor gripe and I've emailed the company who produced the cd rom asking where they are. thanks for all the help chaps, it did help me find a solution. By the way, the documentation for uploading scorm content can be found with the Scorm module in the Modules section of the Moodle site. I couldn't find any other clear documentation by doing a search.
  16. they are scorm modules (1.3 2004) - one of the packages is 61.7Mb as well. I'll have to do a different search.
  17. I'm going to have tyo get back to you on this as I'm at home now.
  18. I do know that FrogTeacher recently announced it was gettinbg into bed with Sharepoint Server (March 7th). I saw a very short demo of it before the nuptuals, and it seemd to offer quite a lot, though a more forensic investigation might reveal huge gaps below the water line.
  19. When I called asking for the material, they asked me which version of Moodle I had so that they could package it correctly. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong in trying to restore these files as if from backup? It's the way I did it with 1.5.
  20. Moodle 1.7, and material provided by NWGfL (GCSE English Online, especially for 1.7). When I try to restore a course from this CD Rom I get the above message. To be honest, the Moodle.org site doesn't help here. Anyone here encountered this problem? I get the impression that v.1.8 will smooth out a lot of the problems with 1.7.
  21. thanks for the info. I thought it was SpecialAgent myself, but after a long trawl on friday and saturday nights I couldn't locate it. must have fallen asleep at the keyboard and dreamt it. All I can recall of it is that a section of the post was in quotes.
  22. about a couple of weeks ago someone posted some comments about the high regard in private industry for school techs, for their ability to deal with all sorts of problems, how they could leap tall buildings at a single bound (I made the last one up). Can someone please direct me to it? I'm getting worse at recalling things. About the only thing I can remember from Edugeek is that Geoff has an eidetic memory.
  23. I suspect that you're playing devil's advocate here Midget. I have no problems with the ICT staff at our school, apart from sometimes pressure of work leads you to forget to do something you promised to do 20 minutes ago. They work extremely hard to raise the levels of achievement of their charges, and they fully understand the pressures we're under (perhaps sharing an office helps - maybe you should all try it).
  24. I messed with another theme (can't remember which it is off the top of my head), tried to get some tones and stuff to fall in with the school website (click the link below). My view was that people might be on two separate sites, but they had to know they were related. I didn't want them hitting the VLE link on the website (I know there isn't one on the present site, but the revamp will have one) and bringing up something which looked completely alien. Ideally, I'm looking for a seamless experience ® for our customers...sorry, I'm losing it here
