Thanks to @matt40k who spotted this MS KB Applications crash and "AccessViolationException" exception occurs when you use System.Data.SqlClient after you install Visual Studio 2013 or .NET Framework 4.5.1 4.5.2 does solve the crash.

@penfold_99 I agree with all most everything. Data validation is a problem though. I think we over validate on input and need to allow more null entries so that schools can get pupils into the system immediately. The problem with a drip feed to DfE is that the null entry approach may result in that data never being collected. As an aside I thought this NHS project is something to learn from NHS to scrap £356m outpatient booking system

That project was stopped for political reasons.

If you've got Registrations & Admissions there is an import from school web site option which is a lot simpler.

Microsoft had said this was caused by a conflict with network stack components injected by 3rd Party applications (most commonly Antivirus or Firewall products). The Microsoft KB article suggested that they viewed this as a bug in the 3rd Party software, not in the framework, and were not intending to fix it. Based on this the guidance the service desk directed customers with the issue to the KB article, which provided a process for determined the likely source of the faulty component. It appears that 4.5.2 fixes the issue, so perhaps Microsoft have revised their stance. We’ll see what we can find out.

@SouthCoastSaint because there are cases against this problem we are seeking to find a solution. SOLUS3 will probably be enabled to force a closure of Exams so that the problem doesn't occur. The problem is that people think they have logged out of SIMS but remain in Exams. SOLUS3 can already re-apply an upgrade to a workstation that has failed for this reason.

@Barcest the key thing that Product Managers look at is cases. If something generates cases it will go up the list of things to address.

Sorry I'm relaying what I've been told! The panel expands under certain conditions to reveal more data. This is connected to the annoying jump.

The jump is on the list of things to fix. This may require a configuration setting in order to keep the feature.

As I said we employ ex-users! The feature is required - the jump isn't!

The feedback is "Yes they are correct, it can jump when they click a button and select what it has moved to as well."

I'll get the guys to double check but as ex-users they are convinced that they have the right area.

This is a feature designed to reveal more information but if you are in a hurry you can click the wrong button as the screen re-draws. The team have got an action to see what could be done to improve the handling of this area - stopping it happening will cause more complaints from those that make use of the increased display.

Since a large number of problems we get can be solved by ordinary people we don't put techs onto first line!! If your support is from us you can log a case electronically then you will avoid 1st line.

I would have thought you could deal with this as an alternative curriculum event. This way they can be recorded in attendance but out of the normal class.

This isn't so much a password issue as the school's responsibility as a data controller/processor. If data is passing out from the school to a TP then the school MUST ensure that only data that is required to do the job is passed out and that a contract exists between the school and TP that states what data is being released. The fair processing notice also needs to inform parents/pupils that this is happening also.

From a legal point of view you need to be aware of the data items they are taking out of your system and satisfy yourself that they are strictly necessary.

We've done some work on the report generator (included in summer) that will speed up areas that have been reported as slow.

@CAM PDF support is now available - I would have liked it on day 1! By the time the pilot is finished there will be enough for many teachers.

@zag - it's not just for registration; it will cover all aspects that a teacher requires on the move. Not in the first release but that's what's planned.
