OpenVPN tunnel over 443 -> world = oyster? NAS box may be able to run openvpn. Having said that, your proxy may block those sorts of non-web connections. Best way: ask whoever looks after your firewall systems to open 22 for you? Perhaps after auth?

Have you tried photorec? Though I am sure it will give similar results to recuva.

Kerberos, in general, uses machine accounts, and as such needs to talk to the same *machine* all the time. You might do FrontSquid (auth,no filtering) Backsquid(no auth,filtering), and have a pair of VRRP Frontsquids talking to 2 or 3 CARP backsquids.

Yes, Kerberos and loadbalancing is difficult - we think we may have it cracked, but we're not holding our breath just yet.

Ah, I had a different CARP You will still have to VRRP your "front-end" squids (for resilience) which then "carp off" to the backend peers (for LB), and even then you're going to get no more than a single-squid in terms of performance (unless your backend squids are doing something else too, like content filtering), so if it is scaling under load you're after I would still reccomend loadbalancer.org.

Why are you clustering? Resilience or Load? Or both? I think you are trying to do something ICP-ish, where a cache hit on one member is nearly as good as a direct cache hit. That's great, but doesn't answer your load balancing problem. CARP is for redundancy, usually between 2 servers. For linux purposes I think the equivalent is VRRP. For load balancing I would suggest using a "proper" load balancer. The ones at loadbalancer.org are inexpensive and VERY good. You could roll your own but you would need CARP/VRRP between them for failover and to use something like haproxy to do the actual LB. Sounds like a lot of work, but your call

We use databarracks at our Leeds office. Bit clunky if you want to backup windows AND linux environments. We have a 100 meg symmetric, so don't see any bandwidth problem, we just about scraped by when it had ~2.5Mb up all to itself overnight though. Tech support from them is awesome. Used Mozy at Smoothwall US when it was just a handful of PCs. Seems to work ok. Am switching from Mozy to Backblaze at home - quite a bit cheaper for what I need.

What are you using for web filtering? That should be able to tell you.

Is the slowness something that has happened only sine you put ISA in? How slow is "slow"? Is it raw throughput, or page load speeds that are the problem?

Any fun looking options in bios for this sort of feature maybe?

Any performance issues during the clicking? Some HDs have a "head park" util which stows the disk head if it detects vibration. I once had to get a toshiba lappy to tone its life down as it was doing this if you so much as looked at it, causing it to take 45 mins to boot! Could be a faulty vibration sensor - if so you might see if you can turn of that feature.

The easiest "tidyup" here is to put all your strings into an array, and then iterate over that array with the text deletion. You could actually link it in with your line deletion loop as a second level of "tidy" - an inner loop at "If Len(strLine) > 0" checking to see if any of the strings were present and skipping the addition of the line to your output if so would be teh way forward there. Now, you're not going to want to hear this probably but you needn't actually script this sort of thing because in the unix world there are some great tools for this, and you can actually get them for windows too - grep, awk and sed. Grep is the easiest one to master, and it is easy enough to get it to print all lines in a file which don't match a pattern - so that would be one way to accomplish this without extra scripting work. OTOH, if part of your aim is to improve your scripting abilities, crack on, sir, and we will do our best to help you debug as you tidy

Would recommend some sort of online backup - look at mozy and backblaze. If schoolwork is on there it's worht a few quid for peace of mind.
