    FWIW I went from Humax freeview to Sky+HD at the behest of my F1-addicted wife. I still prefer the Humax box to the Sky+ box as a piece of kit, regardless of channels available.

    We bought a new Kyocera to replace the old Kyocera that was "clearly on its last legs" - the old one almost outlived the new one. I would echo comments that build quality has gone down hill: but has it gone the same way with other manufacturers?

    Yeah, you should always reboot ASAP after an update, just to make sure the binaries on-disk and in RAM are consistent.

    Oof, hasn't linux got trickier to manage since it got easy to use? I would *suggest* polkit is a good starting point, but without a debian box to hand to louse around with I'm loath to make any further comment :-/

    It looks more likely that it's the "Post request to a jpg" (which seems reasonably kosher to me) rule that's causing the issue - I suspect you will find some missing images in edugeek - almost certainly a dynamically generated one. I suggest you disable the rule, it seems a bit OTT

    This comes with a health warning: apply it to too many sites and it will slow things down, as it messes with the closing of connections - so please use the policy tools to narrow down the application of this rule: Create a new user defined category in Guardian > Policy objects > User defined give it a name and click Advanced. Then, in the "Headers to override" section, add: Connection: close Proxy-Connection: close and save. Now, create a second category for problem sites, file extensions and the like. Try to be specific, as the modification will likely harm proxy performance due to it forcing the client to reopen the connection after every request with these headers. Finally, create a content mod policy in Guardian > Content modification > Manage policies, matching the "What" you created second and applying the content mod you created first in the Action, feel free to set the "Who" and "Where" to make the match even more specific.

    Thanks for the review... much appreciated that you took the time. Underway now - for those of you who don't know, you can track the progress of this project on uservoice. As john said, reporting is getting an update, and there'll be a dedicated reporting team continuing work on that going forward.

    Easier with voip - much easier. Might even be worth looking at a voip-pstn gateway and using a couple of SIP phones internally. Other than that, go direct to the incoming line with an el-cheapo telephone recorder (bet maplin do em) a couple of USB sound cards to capture and a small PC. Start by capturing all the time straight to mp3... but you could use a cut-on-silence tool to separate calls. I wouldn't bother tho, just 1 mp3 per day. Edit: http://www.maplin.co.uk/bt-socket-recording-lead-30350 reckon you could have the whole lot sorted for £150 including a 2nd user PC from ICT-direct more fun than Millgates solution, and cheaper - but your TCO may be higher

    Yeah, that's right - in the Smoothwall update you'll use the Smoothie as your radius server. This will give a "seamless" login experience. @robk and a couple of others have tested this, it is currently in integration waiting to be turned into a patch for rollout (look out for main update 60) - this will take at least 3 weeks.

    for a fairly brutal approach: 1. Find the dansguardian log file (still called access.log? cant remember) 2. grep logfile.log >/tmp/username.log that will get you everything that user has done from that logfile into /tmp/username.log it will overmatch a bit

    Yeah, depending on the capabilities you might just need the zone module, which is a real simple one to add, if it's a bit more than that we'll need to refresh the software build, but that's not incredibly hard, its a mite non-standard as a procedure, but if it's the difference between "Sheridan happy" and "Sheridan not happy", then so be it

    Caveat: URL filtering is NOT effective against SSL requests unless you are MITM inspecting (this is true for all filter products) as you cannot see the URL part without decrypt.

    Probably for the routing aspect - no real reason to change the tin, if you're up for it you could cross-grade with a usb cdrom... though there are now ways to get most of the UTM-y stuff on a SWG - fire me any ticket ID and I will get it re-looked into. Not satisfied with no for an answer im afraid

    IIRC Altman is webroot. If you're a smoothwall user, you could try our spam filtering - its nothing fancy but it does do the business.

    SSL plus skype is an interesting one: you *will* have to allow CONNECT requests over SSL to any IP to allow skype via a proxy. This is sub-optimal, but true of any product.

    @wickit anything in particular you are concerned about? Any company that doesn't admit they've got it wrong now and again isn't worth dealing with we did have a few blips this year as we are totally reorganising how support works (there are now more support people than ever, no corner cutting here), I see chris's comments about some tickets taking ages to get closed, and it being "random" wether you get fast or slow - I would suspect that it has been more fast of late than slow - looking at the stats it certainly seems that way. Would be happy to talk on the phone if you'd like. Tom

    @Cache - we have made a few changes to speed up initial turnaround, and i'm told 30% of calls are closed on first contact now - but we know sometimes the priority of a call is lost when it is passed up to a senior support team member as yours will have been - expect this to improve with immediate effect as we tweak our operating procedures...
