We've developed our own in-house online reporting and it also gets exposed to users via sharepoint parts (and so quite simple to open up to parents). We don't have any enforced time for opening up reporting to parents unlike you guys, but it can't be far away. Hvaing recently spoken to Pearson, they confirmed that as long as there was one LEA using Gold, it would be maintained and supported. I'd also doubt Pearson would drop the remaining schools in it (they wouldnt want the bad PR) so I'd guess that they'd give 18-24 months notice before discontinuing it.

Any Phoenix Gold users still kicking about? We've developed our own management/reporting/information intranet for displaying gold data rather than deploying to every machine (and paying for licenses) We're looking to move to A.N. Other MIS within the next year but none that we've looked at gives us the same information that we can currently get (if they did, I reckon they'd be on to a winner, but I'm biaised! ) The only problem.... our current solution is based around sharepoint 2001 (yes - I know!) We're considering moving it to sharepoint 2007 (or 2010). The static pages work fine (actually they're just .asp pages) but the interactive ones dont (select a link on one part, other parts update etc). If/when we do move, ideally we don't want to continue with our own system as the new MIS should be producing all our current info requirements (otherwise, whats the point in moving ) I'd hate to see all our good work go to 'waste' so I guess I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who may be interested in having a copy? All of the non-interactive stuff wouldnt even need to run in sharepoint - IIS would do (absence lists, unexplained absences, health and accessability notes etc) I dont have any screenshots (paranoid or what) as we dont have any test data - it's all live. I could aways blur it out i suppose....... That - and I'm always curious to see how many people still run with Gold ("if it aint broke..." and "better the devil you know" spring to mind!) Cheers

We have that on occaision. we just run a group policy forced update gpupdate /force and get them to log out and in again.

Although you have to have the blackberry service/package activated on your phone contract, I wouldn't swap my blackberry bold for anything else, tbh. We're about to go from exchange 2003 to exchange 2007 so might have a look at windows mobile devices (it's an excuse as much as anything )

I've done the MCSA/MCSE and MCDBA (dba was one extra exam on top of mcse carefully chosen electives!). All on Windows 2000 and SQL 2000. Am looking to upgrade to XP/Vista/7, 2003/2008 and 2005/2008. 2003 exams probably first, then the 2008 upgrade path. I've just left it too long to do the 2003 upgrade Really can't get myself motivated though

Mine too Restarted and it's not too bad. Jumped on to work to see if it's stalled too but RDP has closed the session Downloading again and getting up to 3MB/sec but it's all over the shop. Also noticed it's a different download manager this morning. It was the transfer manager last night, and this morning it's the Akamai Download manager (on the technet downloads page, click details for Ultimate, then top downloads)

We use it mainly of hardware inventory, WSUS and a couple of applications that wouldnt go out via Group Policy. This year i've ditched RIS and taken the jump to WDS and SCCM. Found this guide invaluable The Deployment Guys : SCCM 2007 and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit - Video Walkthrough Adding drivers etc seem much easier than RIS. We've only got 40 new desktops (HP DC7900s) to roll out this year so if it all goes pete tong then it's no biggy

You can password protect individual recordings, or you can export (via the player) to your 'school bag' and watch on any PC that has the player software (freely available on the clickview downloads site). We're (going to be) using the school bag option for remote sites that we dont want to flood the connection to. As above, its done in short bursts (pre-loads the next chapter). Also for a classroom scenario - you can setup a PC as the 'lesson' server. PCs in the same suite then connect to the lesson server rather than the main server to get the video etc

Over the past few years, I've switched from: Sophos (one 'fix' was stop scanning the system32 directory - wtf!) Symantec (too client intensive but good reporting/deployment) Kaspersky (light client use - not so good for reporting) VIPRE (light client use - picks up more than Kaspersky did, reporting so-so) Quite happy with it so far. It even has tools to remove previous A/V solutions when it installs. We had a dozen machines from 350 that didnt automatically remove Kaspesky and install correctly. A good result IMO.

Can you double-click on the printer name (to connect and install it) or does it through the same error? The print spooler service is running on the PC you're browsing from. Is there anything relevant showing up in the event logs (application or system) ? If the printer is connected to an XP system, is the XP system likely to have exceeded its number of connections (IIRC XP is limited to 10?)

can you browse to the PC, and see the printer in 'printers and faxes' ? ie start-> run -> \\english-admin-pc1\
