Yes this is true.. I have just come from a County BSF ICT Consultation Meeting The BEAST COMMETH The Counties under Government guidelines are using a preferred bidder system and working the (proposed) Managed Services Companies against each other until they get the best bid. Then this company will take over the entire County As for the Schools ICT Managers ... they will cease to exist as the School will be managed by the Managed Service Company.. if you are kept on you will be basically a toner cartridge or projector bulb replacement person as you will not be given any access rights to the servers or other hight level systems.. so therefore your skill-set will be going down the toilet and after a few years you employment prospects will diminish (no ISA, No Exchange, No Server 2003, No SIMS, No Terminal Services, No RIS configuration etc etc) There is no way out of this as it is a government instruction .. if the School wants the millions to rebuild ICT under the BSF they must outsource to some bloated company... if they want to keep the ICT In house they must reject the millions of pounds.. I believe that the first phase was either Wolverhampton or Manchester and that Ramsys won these are now taking over the schools.. As I was told a month ago.. Its coming .. it cannot be stopped and it will change the way ICT is run in the schools (ie some fat bloated company getting our jobs) So the only way that the ICT staff will keep their jobs is either they get taken on by the Managed Service Providor or the Head teacher makes a New Role for the Technical Staff BECTA and The DfES state clearly that ICT MUST be managed by a Service Providor.. no if ands or buts Where are the unions ?

Why is no-one mentioning the best of both worlds... Not Viglin, Not CC3.... but a vanilla Network with RANGER ? Ranger does Printer Control, Deployment, GPO's (address bar lock) Work shutdown .. etc etc. http://www.rangersuite.co.uk.

Ok RIS... now whan i was doing my MCSE courses the unattend.txt file always failed and never put the key in... Has this issue been sorted as it was basically and XP build with the loaction, Key etc still to be loaded after the image has been loaded.. Then there was the SysPrep to get the programs on saga... ZZzzzzzzzzzz (or am I wrong) With Ghost it was just build, Newsid and go Does RIS just install the OS and No applications ?? And how would one use RIS and Ghost ?

How do you back up SIMS.. Do you get SIMS to do its own backup via the System Manager everynight ? (how do I automate this?) Or just use Backup exec or NTbackup to backup the whole MSSQL folder to tape and disk ?

That's handled by SIMSPERM.BAT Does the SIMSPERM do folder modify rights ? really ?!?

The question was not answered in the other Ghost thread so i'll ask again here... 8) In the old old Ghost we used floppy disks that booted the PC (from BSOD or totally dead) and it went into Ghost and you could PICK what Image was to be loaded.. Ie Compaq Dell Centerprise choose the image and it loaded.. No Multicast or Ghostcast had to be started and the selected image loaded to ghost a PC.. Now in this new Ghost how is this done as if the PC is dead then there is no OS so the client isn't loaded Can it be done in Ghost 7 and above ?

Create the machine account in AD myself before the technican goes to the machine to add it to the domain. So whats the point of having a technican then? I am also in the smae situation.. i need Technicians to add remove PC's from the domain, change passwords in the AD Create Accounts in Ranger (need AD rights) Add new PC builds to the Domain etc...

WOW..! £1800.00.. I have a few queries on Ghost 1.1 or is it really 8 ? With the old Ghost before multicasting .. If we had a BSOD we got the floppy for the PC and stuck it in and it booted and selected the image to Ghost Is this still possible in Ghost 8 and above (without starting a multicast) ?.. Also in Ghost i see that when using the Console you have to have the client software active.... also if there is a BSOD or fracked PC is it possible to send an image to be Ghosted ? Or do you have to start Ghost Multicast and go to the PC

What is a good price for a ghost license for say 200 PC's ?

OK our little kiddies have this bat file to bypass the start up of Ranger net stop "Ranger Security Monitor" net stop "Ranger Network Client" taskkill /F /IM Rangertoolbar.exe How can this be stopped ? as blocking bat files would stop the logon scripts running to map the drives ? Any ideas

Hi I read below that there are some ways of Booting users out of SIMS for patches and stuff.. We have SIMS installed on around 40 PC's in diffrent buildings around the site... So the shotgun by the door isn't going to work :-)... Also the users leave SIMS logged on.. all day and all night... Is there a way of seeing who's on and what PC and booting them off ? ? Also is there a time out for SIMS if the user leave a classroom with it logged on ?
