  1. Anybody else feel that they had been conned.. Nothing new apart from the "Future Schools" and the new little laptop from RM and A N Other companies.. Freebies sucked... I think BETT is a great place for Teachers that really know nothing.. as then it would blow ones mind... And for Head Teachers and ICT Heads on how to outsource your entire Support Department.. (courtesy of the BSF) It also felt that the BSF had killed innovation as most people (smaller companies) I spoke to were trying to figure out their future within the BSF schools and how they would sell their products as in most BSF schools only the Managed Service Company can sell products to the school.... But for us Professional ICT Managers I feel that the BETT was same ol same ol... ?????
  2. Awesome song ... and I know how you feel...

Yes Tony... There happens to be a slight difference between sitting on the fence on issues of OS's and other non life changing issues..... to the BSF who's outcome is the destruction of the Education In-House ICT Support Community Countrywide... I find it sad that you think that the BSF is as petty and trivial as VLE's, Editors or MIS differences.. I think this matter is a little bit more serious than that mate As stated elsewhere... School ICT Network Managers have no place in the BSF vision... and this is rammed home at the BETT Future Schools Stand.... "Outscorce everything and Full Managed Services ONLY" Fiddling while Rome burns comes to mind...

  14. Hi We are in the process of purchasing Ghost There are 2 versions Norton Ghost 12 and Symantec Ghost Suite 2 Norton Ghost can be bought as a box product and Suite 2 has to be purchased with a min of 5 licenses.. My questions are Does Norton Ghost have Ghost Cast? Why do I have to license suite 2 5 times as I only thought you had to license if you were using the consol function and that licensing was not needed for ghostcasting or disk to disk ghosting ?
  15. Hi I have RAM v2 installed on my XP sp2 PC (with admin pack installed) When I make a staff member account with an Outlook Mail box it fails and says it cannot create a Mailbox.. And the error is cannot access IMailboxStore - are Exchange Management Tools installed I then get my Exchange 2003 disk to install the tools but it will not allow me to go further then the component selection and everything is greyed out.. any ideas ?

Is it ? Is this for our benefit or for the benefit of the company asking for the input.... them then knowing what obstacles can arise and to plan on circumventing them.. (information is power) As if I was RM I would keep an eye out for any one trying to hinder me and then “chat” to them to find out what the issues are… Yes and the result from the RM meeting was very impotent (yes that's impotent not important)... all we got from them was .. “Yes we take over your Network and here is one of our happy drones”... As I have said before Edugeek is fence sitting with a softly softly approach… Asking RM to show how they approach BSF is like asking Hannibal Lecter how he is going to cook you…. We need to get The Press, Media and Local Government Involved.. yet nothing has been done in this area… on how much money is wasted in the BSF Managed Services forced policy.. and whether it is suitable for all schools.. Getting sponsorship from Serif, Smoothwall, D-Link, IDG, Oliis and Navaho. Is fantastic but from sponsorship from RM is also like sitting down to eat with Hannibal Lecter.. you are feasting on the bones of the redundant Network Managers… and they will have absolutely no hesitation in taking you out (Network Managers) when the BSF rolls into your town

Is this not a conflict of intrests ? As we know the RM is one of the biggest supporters of the BSF in wiping out the In-House ICT Support Community... as well they are getting most of the contracts.. So it seems that Edugeek is not really serious about protecting the jobs of Network Managers

Not much there really... the Massive Companies flogging their gear and the small companies trying to flog their gear... Bunch of Smart Board and Promethean sales people wth wireless head mic's on doing the IWB dance... RM Mothership right in the middle with thier drones milling about raging on about the RM ONe and the new laptops.. And of course BECTA doing their bit to confuse everyone and by not really knowing what IT is about in the real world but telling everyone that they know it all..... AVOID the Future Schools area if you want to keep you hair...
  19. Yep... ours were in the region of Half a Million Pounds upwards

    XP Repair

What is the command line when an XP disk is inserted to repair the OS within windows.. is it d:/setup.exe /spx ?
  21. It seems there are secret forums on the site that only the privilaged few can access.. :-)
  22. OK.... what if you didn't want to use Backup Exec ? which one then would do a disaster recovery for databases, AD, files, and the rest.. As Backup exec does not do disk backup to IP it needs a UNC and I looking for something that does IP
  23. and less service... Why is it that everyone thinks that paying double for ICT support and getting a much lower service is a good thing? All you are really getting is a locked down inflexable network...
  24. This has happened to many many ICT Support Staff... at the start when the big shock hits that the school loses control of the ICT the Senior Managers say "we're with you and behind you and over our dead bodies" etc.. But then the money comes rollin in and the conditions are told .. then it's... "maybe you might not be employed by the school any more, or sorry my hands are tied, or it's the system"... Yep heard it first hand from the other county schools to thier ICT Staff as well.. Why isn't the ICT Manager at the meetings ? is your Boss the ICT Manager ? Also what is to consider is the cost of £90 per pupil for the Support.. So a school of 1200 pupils will cost £108,000.00 per year for very basic support 8:30 to 5.. just for the PC's, Printers and servers... any thing else is additional.. BSF pays for the first year but for the rest of the 4 years of the contract the school has to find the funding themselves.. What do you and your boss cost the school and how much additional support do you give... This is where the BSF is BAD value for money.. Destroys the ICT Community of a school...
  25. Ehhh ?!?!? you need tickets... don't you just turn up and register ?
